“What if we both ask him out at the same time?” Thor suggests.

“You don’t think that would scare him off?” Steve counters and it’s back to the square one. The both of them have been seated at the kitchen table for the last hour brainstorming. The topic of their brainstorming session revolves around Tony Stark and how to ask him out. No brilliant ideas have popped up yet aside from Thor’s idea to ask him out via flash mob. 

Well, Thor thought it was a brilliant idea.

Steve did not.

Though, admittedly, the idea had been entertaining to think about.

The flash mob could have done a choreography to Highway to Hell...

Maybe Thor had been onto something. 

“Why would it scare him off?” Thor questions, his blue-eyed stare wide and innocent. It’s a sight Steve sees often enough but it never fails to make him want to hold Thor close and protect him from the world. Even though Thor is one of the most fearless and smartest beings he’s never met. “It’s you and me. Two of the people he’s quite comfortable with.”

Steve nods in agreement. “I know,” he says. “But wouldn’t you be a little intimidated if two big guys came to you and asked you out?”

Thor thinks about it before grinning. “To be honest, I’d be quite flattered.”

“Of course,” Steve murmurs with a laugh and leans forward to peck that grin. “We need to think about Tony though.” He sighs. “He’s been through a lot and has dealt with betrayal and people using him and leaving him.” Steve holds his mug to his chest. “I think the one good relationship he had was with Pepper and even they didn’t last. I...don’t want us to be like that.”

Thor nods, his face firm. “You want us to be there for him always and I agree.” He looks down at his own mug, possibly sorting through his thoughts. “I love Tony,” he confesses after a moment, wholly and genuinely. “And I’d destroy anyone who hurts him including myself.”

“Me too.” Steve says with such conviction that Thor smiles. It’s something they’ve talked and thought about for a long time. Ever since Steve confessed to loving Tony in his fear of betraying Thor and only to be pleasantly surprised when Thor admitted to feeling the same. They’ve discussed what this would mean for their dynamic, how it wouldn’t be the two of them anymore but the three of them. Neither of them have been in a polyamorous relationship before but they want to make it work, they’re determined to make it work.

For themselves and for Tony.

And it isn’t like they’re going into this blind. 

They’ve seen how Tony looks at them, his stare wanting and hoping that maybe he can a part of what they are. His actions open and loving towards them, his smiles warm and true in the presence of them. It’s not Steve and Thor pushing onto Tony but them opening their arms to allow him in because goodness, they love and want him so badly. 

It hurts with how much they want this.

“So.” Thor takes Steve’s hands in his and gives in a squeeze. “Are we going to do this?”

At this moment, Tony walks into the kitchen, all tired and greasy from motor oil but he’s just so gorgeous that the answer is so clear.

“Yes.” Steve says, surer than anything.
