a little pride month self indulgence: There's an 'au' of sorts I play with where the only real change is I get to write Alan as Transfem. She figures it out sometime post canon, because she wanted so badly to be one of the boys that she ignored the possibility for years, and just figured that she must be doing something wrong when it never seemed to click for her. It doesn't really come loose until she's an adult and actually looks at the fact that it's kind of. Not necessary? To try to force herself to fit into a box that no one else asked her to? And that she was a part of this family no matter what being herself meant. She goes throw a couple of names before landing on one she actually to keep, coming back to Allie in between. She ends up getting the name Kathryn from Scott of all people.. Because it used to be his name, and he doesn't need it anymore, hasn't used it for years. Surely, it'll make his sister happier than it ever made him.
