I tried watch the 3rd httyd movie but I just kept stopping cause toothless’s and hiccup’s relationship just doesn’t sit right with me.

In the first two movies, shows, and specials they have an amazing bond and have shown that they are willing to die for each other multiple times.

In race to the edge there’s an episode where hiccup is trapped underwater and is about to drown toothless knows he can’t get to him before he dies so he chooses to stay and die with him with hiccup saying. “I wouldn’t leave you either bud”

There are a lot of episodes in the show where they will sacrifice themselves just to keep the other safe.

Hiccup almost takes an iron brand to the face for toothless.

And toothless along with stoic track down a kidnapped hiccup with toothless growing more aggressive for every different kidnapper they come across that toothless almost tries to kill one of them.

And the biggest one is the gift of the night fury. Where hiccup makes toothless the tail shown in the 3rd movie but toothless only uses it once to find and return hiccups lost helmet and he destroys the tail the next day in front of hiccup to show that either they fly together or not at all.

Scenes like those gave toothless a very human character and their relationship felt so strong and beautiful like nothing could tear them apart.

But then comes the 3rd movie which takes their relationship and toothlesses personality and just throw it to the side.

Toothless becomes infatuated with a pretty face and soon runs off with and forgets about hiccup. you the guy who you’ve spent 6 years with?

It just doesn’t feel right, like this toothless is a completely different person from the one we’ve seen through out the franchise.

Someone who would be willing to die with hiccup so they could always be together.

Someone who would give up the ability to fly on his own so he could spend more time with hiccup

Someone who would cross the ocean to save hiccup from bounty hunters

That is the toothless that we know and love but the one in the hidden world is just... a giant horny puppy who would forget his friend of six years to be with a pretty girl he’s only known for a few days. Leaves friend entirely to be with her and then forgets about him momentarily again at the post credits scene. It is such a downgrade and sad to watch a relationship I feel in love with get brushed aside so easily in the movie

Venting about HTTYD 3 stuff I’ve seen recently

What’s with this sudden rise of thinking people who criticize certain aspects of HTTYD 3 or have different opinions when it comes to certain parts of the franchise have “missed the entire point of the franchise” or “didn’t understand HTTYD 3″? 

Like I’ve seen some people say that others shouldn’t treat their opinions about HTTYD 3 as fact (I agree) and say their own opinions about HTTYD 3 aren’t fact but then they say crap like the stuff mentioned above and just??? So your interpretations and thoughts about HTTYD 3 are opinions, and their interpretations and thoughts about HTTYD 3 are opinions, but their opinions are so wrong they missed the entire point of the franchise and didn’t understand the movie at all?

Like sorry that I don’t think Toothless was portrayed as just an animal throughout most of the franchise. Yes, I think the bond between an animal and a human can be deep and meaningful and you can certainly have an animal as a friend, even a best friend, and yes animals can certainly be more intelligent than a lot of people think. I just don’t think that was how Hiccup and Toothless’ friendship was meant to be portrayed originally, and personally I find the idea of a friendship between a boy and a creature that doesn’t quite think the same way, but has human-like intelligence more compelling and fitting within the franchise and also more interesting considering there’s already so many “boy befriends animal” movies out there. I don’t think I’m missing a major point of the franchise or crapping on animal-human bonds for thinking this way. I don’t think others are missing a major point of the franchise for having a different opinion. Please people, stop acting like you’re smarter than others for thinking Toothless was just an animal all along or whatever.

No, I don’t dislike HTTYD 3 just because the ending isn’t happy. If any HTTYD 3 fans are reading this...please don’t say things like this. Please. It’s so annoying to read things like that. 

Whoops this is longer than I intended and is kinda disjointed and I probably didn’t word some things very well but man behavior like this really annoys me and I just had to rant and share my thoughts on certain things.

(As a sort of endnote, yes I have seen similar behavior from people that criticize HTTYD 3. No, I don’t think it’s correct and I try to avoid saying things like that in my own posts. I can understand why some people like HTTYD 3 and disagree with me on certain things.)
