Is it possible that we might consider treating human beings suffering PTSD more humanely? HU-MANE-LY: by inflicting the minimum of pain; in a way that shows compassion and benevolence; an attempt to alleviate another’s suffering.
In my last post I suggested we alter the language we use around clients who suffer Past Trauma Memory, changing PTSD from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to Post Traumatic Stress Disturbance.
Here my goal is that we go even further to offer hope to each person suffering as they do by completely changing the language and the focus of the therapy.
To explain this better I would ask you to imagine you have suffered a Past Trauma Event. You are determined to survive this event and will do anything and everything to achieve this goal.
Maybe you are loathe to lose yourself in drink or drugs and fear becoming dependent on medication.
Maybe you pull away from family and friends as you are afraid of your anger.
Maybe you find it hard to be around people when you are assailed by demons causing you nightmares and flashbacks.
Maybe you are filled with anger, shame, blame, guilt, remorse and keeping to yourself is your best effort to remain somewhat safe and sane.
Maybe, just maybe, you are sick and tired of feeling sick and tired, you are burnt out, you are ready to give up.
As a last resort you attend therapy and you are told you have a disorder, you are mentally ill.
You survived a trauma event doing the best you could and then you are told, you are the problem.
How would that make you feel?
You have done the best with what you have, you are still standing, you are a survivor, only to be told, you have a mental illness, you are suffering from a disorder.
personally, I would be livid. I am a victim and another was the perpetrator, and when I seek help I am told I am the problem?
I have suffered nightmares and flashbacks, shame, guilt, anger, rage ,remorse every time I am triggered by these memories, this event and the solution is to relive this event in therapy and medicate my responses and this is now my life?
Seriously, this is what we are offered if we are diagnosed with PTSD, a fate worse than death?
In my previous, post I suggested we treat this condition as a spiritual illness, a spiritual maladjustment to life/our environment.
The truth is how we respond to a any event is a symptom of the problem.
When we present with post traumatic stress ,or depression, disassociation, anxiety or other self abusive behaviors; these are the effect of the the cause, how we are actually attempting to cope on our own.
Its all about Cause and Effect!
How we respond, no matter how dysfunctional, that is the effect!
The mental health industry targets the effect because they know they are powerless to treat the cause!
Accepting that the damage we suffer[although presented through our thinking, feeling and actions] is a spiritual illness. It is safe to understand that our demons reside in the very center of our beings, in our souls.
I recall my plan was to take my demons to my grave; never to talk about them to others.
We know that when these demons are not processed and released in a safe and non-intrusive manner they eat away at our insides, quite literally like a cancer.
All our diseases we suffer our caused by our dis-ease with ourselves and this dis-ease isn’t caused mentally, emotionally or physically but rather spiritually, because we live our lives devoid of Hope, Joy, Purpose, Self-Acceptance, Self- Worth, Belief and Esteem.
T็he past is not our domain!
We cannot alter it in any way!
It is insanity to attempt to try to come to terms with events that happened in the past!
We only have these 24 hours right now, we can’t change what we actually did yesterday, what makes anyone thinks we can change what happened 10,20,30 years ago?
There have been books and therapies launched proposing that the physical body holds the trauma.
The truth is the body ,mind and emotions hold the symptoms of the trauma.
Its our Souls; the very core of each of us, what defines us as spiritual human beings, what separates us from the animals; this is where we hold the trauma memory itself.
When working with people who are suffering with Past Trauma Memory and have been diagnosed as having PTSD, it’s not too late to offer them Hope and explain dues to new findings, we wish to inform you you are in actual fact suffering from a disturbance in your Life Force Energy, in other words, you are a Wounded or Tortured Soul.
When we introduce human beings to the conception that they are in face, Wounded or Tortured Souls, we offer them hope.
We should always be striving to offer Hope to all persons, whatever their mental, or medical condition.
Not to offer Hope is a sin and a crime against that person.
For a client to learn they are not mentally ill, that they were never the problem, yes, they were a victim and although their way of managing wasn’t the healthiest, they can process, heal and release their event in a safe and non- intrusive way and get their lives back.
I understand there are people who have been in the mental health system for so long, that to change paths now could be far worse that staying the course.
But, I believe in getting the right people to help & suggest if you have been working with clinical professionals you look at working with Christian mental health professionals, who can give you the best of both worlds, to make the transition from the world of man-made solutions to the world of a spiritual solution where you learn how to embrace The Teachings of Christ Jesus and casting out of your demons.
If you cannot afford therapy, please take my victory principle to your local pastor, they are committed to serving God and their fellow man. They don’t charge for their time, more than glad to help you find your way back into the light of life.
Take a moment to compare what it feels like to identify as:
having a mental illness, a disorder
suffering from a Spiritual Malady, being a Wounded or Tortured Soul
Which would plant in you, the slightest glimmer of hope that you might recover to live and enjoy your life with new found purpose and well-being.
Isn’t is more humane to treating others with loving kindness, compassion and offering hope to alleviate a person’s suffering.
When a person looks for help to deal with a Past Trauma Memory, the medicine shouldn't be as bad or worse than the illness… that is just plain wrong, pure insanity.
It no longer makes any rhyme or reason to continue to promote any form of therapy whereby the client is encouraged to revisit the trauma event.
We can’t be in two places at once!
We can’t heal the pain of another!
All we can handle is what’s on our plate in front of us, today!
When we accept the truth of this, we are awakened the to understanding that we are carrying a memory of a past aspect of us, whether from last week, last year or multiple years ago.
This awakening allows us to accept the insanity of owning the pain of another and the healing available through treating the past with a Spiritual Solution, knowing that, recorded in history, there was One who has, had and always will have The Power to cast out our demons and that One is God through The Teachings of Christ Jesus, may you find Him now.
