Shaped by itself from heavy machinery depending on the wood’s characteristics and decrease of moisture, the Urbach Tower is a 14m tall tower that is a unique wooden structure designed and built by ICD/ITKE University of Stuttgart. Each timber component are manufactured in a flat condition, then curved by standard fabrication style drying. This development reduces energy-intensive techniques required for timber manufacturing, thus offering unpredictable opportunities for architectural wood structures, creating sustainable, renewable and locally sourced building materials.
