What's the time being? And why are we feeding it?

Yesterday wasn't great, and I refuse to be unhappy this October. Therefore I went back in time to create a better first day of spooky month!

If you're reading this and it is October 2nd, then I failed in my mission and was killed by the Time Being (as pictured).

If it's any other day, then my soul has been shredded and I'm atoning for my Time Crime by being banned from this plane.

you’re like such a puppy dog, no? want my attention and want it now. you said as you proceeded to caress my ankle with your toes underneath the table at the restaurant. it was hard to not lose my composure when you kept sliding your toes up my bare skin. 

I could be a puppy dog with you because you showered me with affection naturally. the number of times you kissed my forehead, my nose, and my cheeks. the sheer number of times acts like that came naturally to you...it made my heart beam. of course you out of everyone would be like this. you knew me. 

you liked me before you even met me. you were not some date from a dating app. it was you. you who wrote me long-ass emails for months. you who sent me a song with each email even though our tastes were worlds apart. you who saw me, my journey, my strength. you who respect me. you who desire me. body and mind. even if only for the time being. 

time being.  we are only a time being.  but it was long ago, wasn’t it, when I had first realized this precious truth? 

summer made me realize that you can love something immensely for a period of time and it does not have to continue forever. now is good, forever is only contingent.  give me your now. give me summer.

It made me sad when I caught myself pretending that everybody out there in cyberspace cared about what I thought, when really nobody gives a shit. And when I multiplied that sad feeling by all the millions of people in their lonely little rooms, furiously writing and posting to their lonely little pages that nobody has time to read because they’re all so busy writing and posting, it kind of broke my heart.

I definitely think there's a brighter side to social media, but it still makes you think.

A TALE FOR THE TIME BEING is a great book btw. It's about a woman who finds the diary of a Japanese school girl washed up on a beach in a Hello Kitty lunchbox. As she reads it her life becomes increasingly entwined with the writer's. Ozeki does a great job of creating distinctive voices for the two main characters and sensitively explores themes like time, relationships, bullying, life and death. I really think this book speaks to us all, because as Ozeki says, we are all beings in time.
