To understand the final chapter I'm working on, I need to explain the concept behind time rifts in the sequel.

Time Rifts in the sequel are essentially mini museums. Whenever a Time Piece hits something on its descent to a planet, it shatters and creates small pockets of time, showing the past. While regular Time Pieces show bits and pieces of the past, Grand Time Pieces can reenact important events, show history of the surrounding area, or even bring back the dead. These things only occur within the rift though, and hold no bearing over the outside world.

Mermay 2025 - Hat Kid & Bow Kid

Although I've owned A Hat in Time on Steam for years I didn't get around to playing it until recently, and I think it's a bit overrated. Not necessarily a bad thing, mind you - it's still a delightful and fun romp with great music, controls and overall charm, just that with things like the short basegame length and the camera fighting against me I don't think it's the modern standard for collectathons as people made it out to be and think Mario Odyssey did what it wanted to do better. Of course, despite my opinions on the game, Hat Kid and Bow Kid are both too adorable for me to not draw them, and given it's Mermay I thought I'd try making them both mermaids. The time rifts take place in underwater settings after all, so it fits well for them! Hat Kid and Bow Kid © Gears for Breakfast
