According to Peter Davison in the Five Doctors and King’s Demons DVD audio commentary, Ainley!Master becames a little sillier when you know that he was terrified of being harmed by the props. This includes the mini explosions in T5D and the fake swords in the Doctor/Master swordfight in The King’s Demons, but the only one that really did anything was the ooze in which he nearly drowned when his character was “killed” in Timeflight.
(It was apparently very hard to fake a swordfight when one actor was terrified of being jousted. If I remember Peter seemed mildly amused recalling he had to carry that scene)
