every time i think i've figured out a solid interpretation of the pre-flashpoint timeline and jason's ages specifically, i realize something new that messes it up and have to start over. i realize this is a futile effort, but atp i'm in too deep to just give up, so here are my current thoughts and many many woes relating to how old jason was. this is lowkey a cry for help but also continue on if you have any thoughts to add or are at all interested in DC timeline bullshit 🤞
alright so, starting off, afaik the first reference we get to jason's age post-crisis is in TEC #571, in which we find out jason is turning 12 that same year. i am 90% sure that COIE took place in mid-late summer, and since TEC #572 took place around christmas, we know jason turned 12 in the same year and therefore around the same time as COIE. from there, since we know dick turned 20 right after COIE in november, dick and jason must be 8 years apart in age
but then also, according to o'neil in the letters column of batman #412 and the math we get in batman #416 (~1 year in the past + ~18 months = ~2.5 years), batman #412 took place ~3 years after batman #408 & #409, which, if jason turned 12 the same year as COIE, would put batman #408 & #409 absurdly far back in the timeline and make literally no sense. however, we could ignore TEC #572’s xmas setting since it’s mostly irrelevant, and just say TEC #571 happened after the new year, which would fix the issue i just described and make more sense given he was still 12 in batman annual #12. this would make jason's 11th birthday around the same time as COIE and stretch his age gap with dick up to 9 years
but then also, TEC #790 shows jason's 18th birthday which took place in the same year as tim's 16th birthday in robin #116, making their age gap 2 years, and then, if jason turned 11 around COIE and was 12 in batman annual #12, then he really couldn't have been older than 12 when he died, which would mean 2 years would have to have passed from ADITF to ALPOD
BUT THEN ALSO, dick was at most 21 in deathstroke the terminator annual #1, which was definitely after tim's introduction, and if jason was 12 in ADITF then dick was 21, which would make tim and jason the same age instead of 2 years apart
but then alsoooo, even if you ignore TEC #790, jason is pretty clearly intended to be somewhat older than tim, and, more importantly, everything from ADITF -> deathstroke annual #1 happening between april (when jason dies) to dick’s birthday (which i'm like 90% sure was in october atp but it might've still been november actually i can’t remember) is fucking insane. so ADITF must have taken place the previous year, which would make dick 20 when jason died, knocking dick and jason's age gap back to 8 years and tim and jason's age gap up to 1 year
but then also. if dick and jason's age gap is 8 years then jason's 12th birthday is back to being around COIE, which just reintroduces the same issue of batman #408 & #409 being absurdly early in the timeline from before, unless we ignore the ~3 year gap from batman #408 & #409 to batman #412 given by batman #412 & #416
But Then Also, jason's death date was never actually stated in the 80's, so you could argue ADITF happened earlier in jason's 7th grade year, which would give ADITF -> deathstroke annual #1 enough room to breathe, while still letting batman #408 & #409 be ~3 years before batman #412, making jason and dick's age gap 9 years again
but then also...you could argue the same thing for jason's birthday because if they were just thinking of him as a 7th grader he could’ve actually been 13 when he died, which would actually make sense because of that one game card from the 80’s that said he was 13. and if jason's birthday isn't in august then...i don't know lol
something has to give obviously, i dunno what, and there's probably still like 40 different things i'm forgetting right now that will only be remembered once i think i've finally decided what i want to give up on. this is also completely ignoring vibes because if you factor those in everything gets more confusing, and everything i just said sucks. i realize there’s literally never going to be an exact answer and i just need to pick what i think should stay and go, but i don't know what to pick so someone please tell me i’ve made an extremely obvious error in logic and reasoning that fixes everything 😭😭
Now I didn’t talk about the past chapter because honestly there’s so many implications in this, so let’s try to point everything out when it comes to Amane.
Firstly; the Amane Nene is speaking to in this timeline is one who met when he was 8 years old at the festival. That much is pretty much confirmed.
But that’s not what interests me, in fact it’s something that Nene points out herself.
I find it interesting that she specifically asks what Amane she spoke to the first time, as if it isn’t the same one. Apart of me doesn’t think that it is.
Firstly let’s point out the basics; design. The first thing I noticed about this Amane is the fact that his bandages are gone.
Though many of you may think that it’s irreverent, after all the bandages have no significance, especially when the other parts of the design are the same.
I’d argue that it’s very important. After all when we’re first introduced to Amane through Tsuchigomori’s flashback.
He’s told him a dozen times. This has happened a dozen times. If this has happened a dozen times, wouldn’t it make more sense for the Amane that Nene is talking to, to be covered in bandages?
But this is where it gets really interesting. Y’know the flashback of Amane fixing the clock in chapter 101.
Not a bandage in sight.
This crosses more into theory section which i’m notoriously bad at but bare with me here.
I think by Nene meeting Amane at the festival changed something to where he doesn’t need to wear bandages anymore. I think the bandages more so a symbol of two different Amanes. The Amane with bandages is the Hanako we know. The Amane without is the one Nene is talking to.
Without bandages Amane knows that Tsukasa has been replaced. Since he was shown working on the clock I think he managed to go back in time, trying to stop his brother from sacrificing himself on that fateful fourth birthday.
Maybe i’m over thinking it but this could make a lot of sense given the foreshadowing we’ve been given. Either way, thank you for reading the rambles of an over analyzing nerd.
Anyone think it would have been cool if another version of the Umbrellas would have shown up in S4 world but it's them still as teenagers? (I'm basing this off of when Five jumps around and sees the teenage other versions)
But picture it. Teenage Umbrellas from another timeline where almost everything is the same but Viktor (who could also be Vanya in this just because I was thinking about female Five for another Timeline fic) went more rebellious after their Five disappeared. Viktor and Five were close as kids and personally I think he would have went batshit if not for the pills. Think Elliot's character from Whip It if you've seen it. The style choice is one of my favs for his films.
So they're alot more confident and snarky and included in the sibling stuff. Cut to the Umbrellas meeting the OGs and they hear the name 'Five'.
None of them can believe it. Their Five disappeared 5 years ago for them, making them close to OG Five's physical age. They all just keep looking at each other and then, forgetting that he's not theirs, all of them bomb-rush the dude. Klaus begins crying because he's glad Five's not a ghost, Diego is currently crushing Five in a hug but also yelling out Spanish curses and stuttering through them. Luther basically picks up the pile of people, not having to be the leader for once. Just so happy for his family to be whole again (because Ben is alive in this, idfc)
And finally when the others let him go, Teenage Vik surprises the hell out of everyone because they punch Five in the face, yelling at him for leaving. Because if Five had managed to come back when he was still actually teenager as well, that's who he would have seen. That would have been a cooler way to me to reuse the teenage actors.
I have spent the past 2 hours trying (and mostly failing) to make sense of the timeline specifically for Weirdmageddon. Here is what we know vs what we can infer.
What We Know
Dipper and Mabel vs. The Future takes place on August 24th. We know this because Mabel says “it is exactly one week until our birthday” at 0:27 into the episode.
According to Journal 3, Dipper recovers the journals after Weirdmageddon on August 25th. He also says that “it’s taken about a week of intensive scrapbook therapy to get Stan fully back to himself.”
With those two dates firmly in canon... WHEN THE FUCK IS WEIRDMAGEDDON.
Let’s take a look at some other time markers given in the show.
Weirdmageddon Part 1 - “We’re day three in this strange cataclysmic event” (also the whole thing with Bill being in violation of the laws of space-time and the death of Time Baby)
Weirdmageddon Part 2 - Starts out with Weirdmageddon Day 4. Then in the bubble Mabel says “have I actually been listening to the same song for an entire week?”
Weirdmageddon Part 3 - “I control space, matter, and now that that dumb baby is out of the way: Time Itself!” (also even with cartoon logic there is no way the Shackatron got built in a day, that makes no sense) anyway, there is a whole day between the building of the mystery shack and the march to the Fearamid.
With All That In Mind
I’m tired from all this research so I am just going to suggest that Bill Fucked With The Timestream. All of Weirdmageddon probably happened in it’s own bubble of weirdness while the rest of the outside world froze around it.
But at least TWO WEEKS OF TIME occurred within 24 HOURS of real time. That. That’s insane. My head hurts. If anyone else wants to extrapolate with me please go ahead.
Hey, I saw you post about Harry been born late during 31/7. And .... I am suprised that the "James and Lily knew about the prophecy while she was pregnant" is common in HP fandom, it is -almost- taken as if canon. For me it just make no sense. I mean it impossible to know when a child will be born. Maybe he wasn't even a full term pregnancy. I think it all happened after Harry and Nevill were born. (1/2)
(2/2) Dumbledore heard the prophecy from Terlawney when he was interviewing her for a job. So I guess this was during summer. i.e after they were born. I know Harry was born in Godric Hollow where his family went into hiding. But he was born during war, so I guess James and Lily lived in place same for her to stay and rase a child, after that they stayed there. (I am just saying it make more sense for this to be after they were born, not before).
There is a lot of guesswork that we have to do as readers for the timeline before Harry was left on the Dursley’s front step. (I’ve already talked about what a clusterfudge the timeline is from when the Potter’s die on the 31st, to when Harry is brought to the Dursley’s on November 2nd)
But I don’t think it’s taken as canon that the Potter’s knew about the prophecy before Harry was born. The truth is that we don’t know. We don’t know when they went into hiding, we don’t know when they knew that Voldemort targeted them specifically. But James and Lily were in the order before and possibly while she was pregnant, so if other people knew about the prophecy, they would probably know too, regardless of when Harry was due.
However
Dumbledore did know about the prophecy before the boys were born though.
“He shall be born as the seventh month dies”
He shall be, not he has been, so he hears the prophecy before hand. What he does with that information?? It’s anyone’s guess. He might have kept it to himself, but he also knew that the information was overheard and presumably shared with the Dark Lord, so he might have felt he had no choice but to share the information.
Most we can’t know though, we can only speculate. Which is half the fun <3
