i go to the shop and I ask if they have any raspberries. they say no, they used to sell raspberries, but they haven't had any in stock in the last 15 years. I ask if there's somewhere else I can go to buy raspberries. They say no, with confidence and pride, they're the only shop around who has ever sold or will ever sell raspberries. Other shops might sell other fruit, sure, but they have a monopoly on all raspberries forever. I ask if they're possibly planning on them selling them again in future? they say they can't tell me that.

on the way home, I encounter someone eating raspberries. I ask and they tell me that they grow their own, they got some seeds from the shop back in The Raspberry Days and kept them. They take me to a field of many beautiful raspberry plants and invite me to pick my own, they're free for all the town to pick whenever they'd like.

someone comes up behind us. It's the shop manager, President of Nintendo Shuntaro Furukawa. he hatefully throws a bob-omb that blows up and kills both of us instantly for stealing 200 trillion dollars worth of potential Raspberry Shop That Doesn't Do Raspberries Anymore profits that they weren't making and then he turns around to the camera with a big thumbs up and says don't do piracy or something ok please

It's so weird how the veganism that goes viral among the general population has literally nothing to do with the rest of vegan activism. I've had so many encounters with non-vegans asking what I think about "the vegan teacher" and I literally have never in my life saw any content from that woman despite having been active in vegan spaces online for over 8 years now.

The stuff vegans promote and what we talk about never becomes mainstream because it's uncomfortable for non-vegans to have to read. Meanwhile, "cringe" vegans is what goes viral, because it's politically correct to clown on vegans, even in leftist spaces.

I just think the huge gap between what vegans actually talk about and what non-vegans see online and decide is representative of veganism as a whole is kind of insane.

Ultimately everyone should have veganism as their end goal, but you NEED to start somewhere! You cannot achieve any goal if you just do nothing!

I'm not vegan but I don't think there's a better example of "making up a person to get mad at" than how non-vegans talk about vegans. yeah I've met obnoxious vegans, you probably have too, and I still hear far less from them than I do from non-vegans inventing arguments to piss themselves off

discussion about right wing radicalisation focuses near-exclusively on men becoming white nationalists but i wonder how it might manifest elsewhere. like, imagine a heavily online subculture of mostly women and they're dedicated to rooting out degeneracy, maintaining a rigid social order, refusing to acknowledge scientific consensus, being violently paranoid of a dehumanised other, adhering to exclusively eurocentric standards of beauty and politically dedicated to exterminating a minority group (possibly one that was already historically targeted for genocide). that'd be fuckin crazy lol

i really love that a lot of old black films have the great migration as a driving force for their plots because it was actively happening when these films were released. a lot of these movies center around harlem because that truly was the mecca for black creativity and a beacon of freedom in the early 20th century.

but it was very common for films set in harlem or chicago to have characters from the south. there was always a cousin, a friend or foe, an old love, that was from a southern state. likewise, films set in the south would refer to chicago and harlem quite often and have scenes set there.

idk i always loved it. it gives a sense of realism that even high budget movies like carmen jones and cabin in the sky don't have bc of the racial vacuum they exist in.
