So, earlier this evening, I was getting ready for a date. First one in a looooong time. I was primped, polished and excited to potentially start towards a relationship. I'm in my room, choosing an outfit and wondering whether or not I should wear sexy undergarments.
I feel my Fitbit vibrate, I stop what I'm doing and quickly turn my wrist to see my message. I'm greeted with despair upon doing so. It was my date.
He wanted me to send nudes before he met me.
Immediately, I grab my phone-face red, heart hammering--and reply that I don't feel comfortable doing it.
"Don't show your face!" He replied. "I just don't want you to get here and for us not to be attracted."
Fellas, this dude knows what I look like. We'd shared current shots of ourselves in our initial conversation on Tinder. We'd joked about how much we hate bears, love staycations and how much we both liked his beard.
After his assertions that his request was simply for MY benefit, I just sort of sat there, on my bed, feeling like shit. I really liked the guy. It had been so long since I'd experienced the loveliness that is feeling wanted. This same dude, with a single text, took that from me. I wasn't excited, I was queasy. I wasn't flattered, I felt uncomfortable.
So, here I sit. My date has been canceled and the man has been blocked. I deleted my Tinder account; it seemed like I has severely misjudged what the app wss intended for. Regardless, I stood my ground and didn't hurt myself in the search for love.
But goddamn do I feel gross.
