The ‘Pregnant’ [Lucy] reads off a tiny screen on Friday only finalizes the facts.
She clues Tim in two days later.

okay quick question how long after the like main events of ith do you think iris is born because personally i can’t decide
ohhhhh hi hello! i’m delighted that you’ve come to me with this query because it’s exactly the sort of conundrum i would shout at someone whom i trust to indulge me! so, anyway, i’m very happy to give you my best guess/own headcanon answer here... 🥺💗
when usnavi and sonny meet with alejandro, the lawyer/family friend, he says the green card acquisition process could be five months or five years. then, at the beginning of the finale, there’s this line/lyric: ...five years when this whole city’s rich folks and hipsters / who’s gonna miss this raggedy little business?
given these, in my mind, iris is at least five in the flash-forward. but she looks to be about seven or eight, with sedo being older, and miggy [my tiny dude who says yeah, c’mon iris] being around five. whichhhhh, not that you asked, but: those other three - sedo, rosa + miggy - definitely belong to nina and benny!
to circle back. by my logic, iris would’ve made her debut two to three years after the STEPPIN’ TO VANESSA morning mural make-out!
i hope this has - semi-credibly - answered your question. which, again, i so appreciate you asking!
Chenford + “What if one day I wake up and you don’t?”
Lucy hears Mickey’s voice as she turns into the living room, an emotion on which she can’t stick a label lodging in her throat and burning achingly. She assumes her preschooler has finally put her adorable toddler logic to the test and noodled her way to some conclusions - based both on Tim’s ‘Career Day’ presentaton from last week and her two hundred repeat viewings of Sleeping Beauty. [True, she’s only really attached to Merryweather’s snark, but she must catch a few other aspects too.]
Mickey’s not hitting Tim up to fill her in on the darker corners of life, though. When Lucy notices the audience member who's focusing raptly, she can’t determine if discovering her husband would’ve been better or worse than this reality.
Their daughter’s sprawled on the carpet, set up with a bowl of Lucky Charms, marshmallows tumbling from her spoon every few seconds and landing on Kojo’s nose: she’s touching her forehead to his, like maybe - if she's lucky - this position will deposit his answer directly into her mind. Aiming his tongue, he traps a moon before he licks her cheek. “Daddy says I’m getting a big bed soon. It’s hard for you to jump in my small bed. But I like helping you.” She scoots back, fixing him securely in her tiny, serious line of sight. “My new bed will probably be - ” she reaches one hand as far up as her torso will stretch “ - this tall. I can’t carry you. You’ll have to sleep somewhere new. You have to be okay for a long time, okay?” She throws her arms around Kojo’s fuzzy neck awkwardly from where she’s still lying flat in front of him.
Lucy blinks to clear her suddenly misted vision. “Daddy in his office?” She kisses both of her babies; Mick nods around the mouthful of cereal she’s just shoved in. “Smaller bites, ladybug.”
Then she heads upstairs to talk Tim into adopting a puppy as soon as possible.
....
i enjoy this little snippet immensely, so it’s also been added to with hope in your heart (you’ll never walk alone) as Part xi. You can read/leave some love here, if you feel so inspired!
with hope in your heart (you'll never walk alone) - Chapter III
Of all the decisions that had accompanied Lucy and Tim’s addition, Michaela’s name had been the simplest ... Plus, Lucy - with her ability to spit straight sonnets at will - had memorized the inscription the Wests had etched into her advancement-to-P2 gift as she’d waited in line behind her best friend for her half-dozen avocado rolls: May this both defend you in battle and be your protection against wickedness if ever it should find you... Congratulations!
Or: Names should always have meaning ... and come complete with a theme song!
I honestly have no explanation for myself. I wrote this in three hours after teaching all day ... and it's maybeeee my new personal favorite? I AM IN SO DEEP.
my latest - surprise, even to me! - installment of with hope in your heart (you'll never walk alone) was totally going to be a ‘five songs lucy sings to mickey’ endeavor. but. i got carried away with / lost in my feelings over the first section and just posted that. so. here are the other songs i would’ve used. if anyone wants any headcanons / additional thoughts about them, just ask!
