I was trying to order a food delivery, and the website calculated the tip and i couldn't change it. My order was $22 and they wanted me to tip my driver $15. And I was like, wtf?
Don't get me wrong. I deliver pizzas for one of my jobs, so I understand how important it is to tip your driver. I'm not against tipping. I'm definitely not against generous tipping. I frequently tip my waiters and drivers 50%, or even more, just because I KNOW how hard it is to depend on tips for a living.
But I want to choose the amount. You don't get to decide for me. If I want to tip my driver $15 on a $22 order, I will. YOU DON'T GET TO DEMAND THAT I DO IT!
There is a special place in hell for people who order pizza on HALLOWEEN, making a driver drive through subdivisions filled with kids running around in the road, cars parked in the MIDDLE of the street shouting at their kids to only take ONE piece of candy, cars driving 3 miles per hour through these areas, and here’s the kicker!…..
THEN THEY DONT TIP THE DRIVER!!!!
i wish all people who don’t tip food delivery drivers well a very merry learn to tip your driver and i hope your food tastes terrible
My Girlfriend was telling me about a restaurant owned by the same person her work is owned by. It's a Mexican restaurant and it doesn't have delivery. To make up for this right now they partnered with one of the delivery apps. Whichever one it is allows the drivers to see the tips associated with the deliveries before they accept. Because of this, some deliveries never get picked. They get made, but no one comes to get them because there either was a tiny tip or no tip and it wasn't worth the drivers time. So these people just don't get their food, and they only have themselves to blame. Just to add to this, a lot of the people in that town that do this are either older, wealthy, or both.
Next chapter for One and Done??
My city is quite smoky this weekend from the apocalyptic west coast fires (I'm nowhere near any of them, which makes this amount of smoke where I live even more distressing). I have been writing, but what my brain wanted was: something incredibly stupid.
So I got started on a Charlie x Hermione space Western multichap (Librarian!Hermione! Captain!Charlie! There's Only One Bed!). I'm going to try to finish this before I start publishing, but please look forward to genre dumbshittery with Pansy x Percy, Padma x Ginny, Draco x Scabior and Tom Riddle.
One and Done 3 probably at the end of this week. ❤
HEY!
Fucking tip your delivery drivers!
The delivery fee charge on your bill is not the tip, and it doesn’t go to the driver’s pay. It’s to ‘pay for the service of having delivery’, usually meaning that it’s for insurance to cover the business’ ass if something happens. On rare occasions, it might pay for gas for the delivery cars.
I just had the pizza boy here get really worked up because I tipped him. Apparently people just don’t do it anymore. I never want to hear a delivery driver go “Wait, really? Are you sure?” when I tell them that they will keep the change on an order, like I’m a goddamned saint when I’m just doing what’s expected.
This is the same as going out for a meal. If you can’t afford the tip, you can’t afford to order. I’ve been there. It sucks. But it’s is selfish to expect someone to bring you food without being tipped for it.
Etiquette
Here’s a lesson on proper tipping etiquette. The later it gets, the better you should be tipping. It doesn’t matter if you’re in a restaurant or if the food is being delivered. These people are bringing you food at an ungodly hour. Sure, they’re scheduled to be there and it’s their jobs, but you’re the reason they need to be there in the first place.
Not tipping your delivery driver is like asking a friend for a ride and then not chipping in for gas. It’s not cool. They are wasting the gas in their tank just to bring you food that you, for whatever reason, needed to have delivered instead of going to get.
For those of you who say, “Sorry, I don’t have enough money to tip you,” why do you order a bunch of food, then? If you can afford $10+ to get delivery, then you can afford another $1-$2 to compensate your driver. For those of you who don’t believe in tipping, I really hope that you get what you deserve.
