FASCICOLO TIRANA

Fascicolo Tirana is an artistic and curatorial project by Francesco Cavaliere, Luca Coclite, Leila Hassan and Laura Perrone, a one-year investigation about those spaces of everyday life, where the resistance movement against the countless and innovative forms of social control happen. The modern world codifies the time of dwelling – the everyday – into an alienated category, a plain repetition of linear time, space for capitalistic reproduction, accumulation and planned consumption. In this dimension, time – just as money – become measurable, quantifiable, divisible, separable (H. Lefebvre). No distinction exists anymore. Thus, the everyday life gets loaded with anxieties, conflicts, and becomes, together with dwelling, a research path (G. Lukács). That was the case of two artists-intellectuals, Norman Mommens and Patience Gray that, during the Seventies, chose to poetically inhabit the wastelands of Southern Italy and, by putting life and art at the same level, envisioning the opportunity for a radical life. Inspired to their gesture is the whole project that finds its sources in sharing the act of dwelling space and time. As an organic system, this experience of proximity and commonality gives the opportunity to develop the project further more. Through visual, textual and sound contributions, the project is questioning our own existence, and implicitly, our actions to create no-project, unplanned and intimate spaces. 

In this frame, the Pyramid in Tirana hosts also Volta di Lame di Luna “Dintorni e Cavità Terrestri”, a performance by Francesco Cavaliere and Leila Hassan. Showing the project in its most performative variations, the monument becomes an essential element to develop those aesthetic experiences and poetical investigations. Being exemplarily timeless and built for eternal, the Pyramid with its essential geometries reflects the primary aspects of the corporeal absence and spiritual presence in the world, a hint to cultural archetypes of living and un-aliveness. The positive/negative and presence/absence dichotomies in the work of Francesco Cavaliere are revealed in the piece by the choice to amplify one voice and to not amplify the other one, determining the two presences as temporally visible and invisible. Here the everyday life returns to be a cyclical time, where repetition is tightly connected to creation and centers the creative powers of individuals, the unleashing of wish, the bursting of creative subjectivity of everyday life, the re-appropriation of experience, right at the core.

BIOGRAPHIES

Francesco Cavaliere (Piombino, Italy, 1980) is visual artist, musician and performer from Tuscany. After studying theatre and music at DAMS University in Bologna, he moved to Berlin. Among his numerous collaborative projects, he presented a work with Elisabeth Kirche at the Draftsmen’s Congress for the 7th Berlin Biennale. Francesco Cavaliere is known for the sensitivity with which he combines sounds, materials and space, showing a highly particular taste for the most diverse forms of exoticism. His works are capable of enlivening his listeners' inner states in an imaginative journey populated by ephemeral presences, phenomena generated by glass, minerals and voices recorded using analogue technologies. Francesco Cavaliere lives and works in Berlin.

Luca Coclite (Gagliano del Capo, Italy, 1981) is visual artist. He lives and works in Gagliano del Capo. His research applies above all on the study about contemporary image, especially linked to the landscape and the architecture, as a language model from which investigate the different sociological contexts emerging. He has been involved since many years in many artistic projects, national and international, both as an artist and as a curator, such as Ramdom, Lastation and Casa a Mare.

Leila Hassan (Linz, Austria, 1983) is visual artist. She use her voice as main gesture, Leila has indeed a very unique bifocal touch. When she talks about supernatural events here, on the other hand she investigates in a kind of every day news, found in science, journalism and geopolitical strategies. Her visual work can be seen live mainly in textile forms, light sculptures, ceramics and dubbing audio plays. Founder member with Francesco Cavaliere of the music project Sea Urchin, Leila Hassan lives and works in Berlin.

Laura Perrone (Lecce, Italia, 1984) is independent curator, lives and works in Lecce (Italy). She earned an M2 in socio-anthropology (Paris1 - Sorbonne, 2008). In 2009, she focused on research in cultural studies in Argentina (Buenos Aires, Centro'feca). Co-founder of the South East Signal Box Network project (Lecce, 2010). For Musagetes Foundation she was project coordinator of Campagna Urbana project (Lecce, 2012) and Free Home University (Lecce, 2013). She was assistant curator for Sensibile Comune - le opere vive exhibition that take place at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (Rome, 2017). At present she is collaborating with Lac O’ Le Mon Foundation.
