I really wish I could enjoy what's going on in the X-books right now. I wish I didn't kind of hate half of it. I don't care about Cyclops (no offense to Scott fans, he's just not my thing) Erik has been AGGRESSIVELY sidelined, and I am so very tired of how Rogue and Gambit tend to get written. Like they're getting attention, I just don't vibe with any of it. I have a choice between Gail Simone's syrupy, saccharine, self-indulgent licensed bad fanfic book or the new Rogue series where they fight a giant opossum and Rogue is already yelling at Gambit for standing around doing nothing during a fight.
Ya'll, words cannot express how very much I hate this kind of writing. I hate seeing Gambit being written like the writer can't envision him being such a "wifeguy" without being a loser that has no friends and nothing else going on in his life. I hate that the writers act like they can't envision a strong, competent woman character married to a man unless she's only strong and competent in comparison to her incompetent, bumbling idiot of a husband that runs around messing things up that she has to come back in and fix. I hate it, I hate it. Jfc. Also - and I could forgive this if the writing were better - but the accents are atrocious. It is 2026. Why do your 20-something Southern US characters from Mississippi and Louisiana sometimes randomly become Scottish or Irish? Are they having a stroke? Did they hit their head and it triggered a flashback to a past life? Come on, ya'll.
