What would have happened if Izuku and Bakugou switched parents. Would Izuku be the one having anger issues? Would Bakugou bully Izuku??
I think, Bakugou would have grown up to be pretty much the same. Izuku on the other hand may have had a better upbringing (sorry, Inko. I love you but nobody is perfect).
Bakugou being raised by Inko: Inko is a decent mother, despite people trying to talk down about her because she is “overbearing” (if your child was in constant peril you would be worried too, dude). If Katsuki was her kid, then she would see no problem with his quirk (because the quirk was never the problem). She would support, praise him and cheer for him, because in her eyes it would be an achievement (just the way everyone else saw it).
On this note, I would like to say that something that wasn’t clear in the manga was how aware the parents were of what was happening in school.
Katsuki and other kids were bullying Izuku, but the teachers and adults around him put a blind eye that, because Izuku was the quirkless kid. They could throw the blame on him for whatever was happening or overlook it, because that was the logic under which they functioned and ‘kids/boys will be kids/boys’. In their eyes there was no problem and therefore it is likely that the parents were never alerted for the concerning behavior. If Izuku also never said anything about it and hid his pain, we can assume that Inko also didn’t know he was bullied, or the extent to which that bullying went.
I have seen people throwing a lot of shade on Mitsuki and Masaru, but while they did contribute to the problem, they are not the sole source of Katsuki’s bad behavior. Katsuki was told by everyone that he was great. Parents in general praise their kids, but if we put constant praise from every angle and with nobody calling him out on his wrongdoings (either out of ignorance, denial or simple apathy), it is no wonder that Katsuki turned out the way he did.
With all this in mind and by assuming that Inko would never know what was happening when Katsuki was out of her sight, it is likely Katsuki would grow up to be the same person. There is always the fact that Inko is more affectionate and sweet than what we have seen from Mitsuki, but we have not actually seen enough of the Bakugous to know what they are like. Mitsuki looks like the person that would be more roughly affectionate, but I can totally still see her showering Katsuki with affection. Just a different kind.
Under Inko’s care Katsuki may have turned out to be a little more gentle, but the outside factors remain and Inko’s influence and moral guidance could only stretch so far.
Now, onto Izuku being raised by the Bakugous.
Izuku would sure as hell would NOT have grown having anger issues if he was raised by them. Because as I said, the parents weren’t the main thing that drove Katsuki’s tendencies (if anything, I got the picture of two people that at some point they realized that their kid was out of control but didn’t know how to handle it at that point).
Masaru would be supportive and Mitsuki would be protective of him. I think Mitsuki would have been the kind of mother that would search to get to the bottom of it if she saw Izuku getting hurt. There would only be so many excuses she would take until she would take the Karen approach and demand some un-biased insight from the teachers about what was going down at school.
The same way, I believe the two of them would make sure to –again sorry, Inko- not crush Izuku’s dreams. It might have taken them by surprise to find out that Izuku was quirkless and they could have an adjustment period, but they would adjust to their child’s needs. It would also help that there is two of them. Inko is a hardworking woman and single mother. The time she has for herself and to talk to people about her troubles is limited. We haven’t even seen if she has any friends to talk to.
Masaru and Mitsuki have each other, so they do technically have some sort of support system and they can see things that the other might miss. They would seek for alternatives for Izuku, they would do their re-search about quirkless people and they would make sure to give Izuku the mental weapons to prepare him for the outside world. Maybe get into awareness things about quirkless rights, because Mitsuki wouldn’t just sit and take things the way they are given to her. ‘This is just how the world works is bs and you better adapt it for my kid’ would be the right mentality.
Maybe I am projecting. Maybe I have missed the mark about these characters. Maybe Mitsuki and Masaru would be the kind of parents that are ashamed to have a quirkless kid and try to ignore his existence, I don’t know.
But these are my thoughts about how things would have gone under these circumstances.
