Things that are not helpful to say to a [female] martial artist/black belt

"I'm not going to mess with you now!"

"I guess I'd better take you seriously now!"

"Your husband better watch out!"

"Watch out Nick!" (who tf is Nick? I know many of them but have no idea why this person said that to me and who they meant.)

"I guess I'd better be nice to you!"

"Can you come whoop my husband?" ( steak and shake waitress, meaning it as a hilarious joke.)

You should be respectful of everyone and do your best to be kind to everyone... Nothing magically happened when my belt color changed. I didn't become more worthy of respect or gain more skills. Same me, same martial artist, still learning and gaining skills. Lastly, I'm not sure what weird form of sexism it is to imply that because I do something that kind of involves self defense that the men around me need to "watch out."

I know some of these are said to all martial artists, but I think some of the nonsense is female-specific (but maybe guys get comments like "I bet your wife feels safe").

Of all the challenges in taekwondo, the spinning techniques, the cut kick, fighting people twice your height, cutting weight, etc, I have to say that the HARDEST thing to do is teach a three year old how to kick the target and not your face. ...three year olds are scary with their untrained kicks...and unrecognized potential....wouldn't want to get in a fight with them that's for sure!

Hello TKD Family! (:

Sorry I’ve been super MIA for who knows how long (I haven’t kept up with the Instagram account too. I know, I’m terrible) and omg... I noticed there’s over 1.5K followers for this account! Like... WHAT?????? 

I followed a bunch of accounts in the past and most of them are currently inactive. With that being said, I’m going to unfollow those accounts and I’d like to follow some of you! So... If you’re reading this and you do Tae Kwon Do, like this post and I’ll be sure to follow you back! (This account is linked to my personal Tumblr account so you’ll most likely get a follow back from my personal. Unless someone knows how to unlink the blogs, let me know!)

I definitely want to get back into blogging, answering questions, and posting new content on this account. Once that’s settled, I’ll manage the Instagram account again. First order of business: a new theme.
