Since they're the only ones who really spend time together when Jon is comatose, they end up becoming close
Melanie is jealous whenever Basira talks about Daisy -- even if it's with grief, Basira's still whole enough to feel something for someone without hurting them. She tries her best to keep this to herself -- she knows it's hard, she knows everyone's scared.
When Melanie is blowing up with Slaughter-related anger Basira used to tell her to stop before someone gets hurt but she's since resigned herself to picking out a book from the library and quietly reads it out loud to try to give something for Melanie to focus on.
Basira was actually a pretty big Ghost Hunt UK fan before everything, to lighten the mood after the draining process of reading statements she will sometimes do an impression of what the topic would sound like if it was the subject of a GHUK video. It's always bad.
Basira is never as much of a caretaker/protector for Melanie as she is for Daisy, but during the timeframe during and post-buried she sort of finds comfort in how quickly Melanie can get defensive and how determined she could be. Familiarity is all Basira can hope for at this point. Melanie's too angry to hope, so she'll just do whatever honestly.
