TMNT Infection AU

Warning there will some blood and scary stuff

What if Leo is infected by the outbreak instead of Donnie, since Donnie, Raph and Mikey went to the power plan while they were fighting monsters, since Venus felt worried about Leo’s infection.

Leo’s Secondary Mutations

Venus: Leo, are you okay? (she placed her hand on his forehead, he groaned)

Leonardo: I’m fine, now the cut on my shoulder’s been hurt like shell god knows how long… (he groaned, Venus gaped and she looked at his left shoulder, she got up from the couch.)

Venus: I’ll be right back, I have to tell Jenny, April and Casey. Leo please don’t ever move.

Leonardo: (whispering) W… what? What is happening to me? Vee….help me please. (He sits all the way up by looking at his injured left shoulder clutching, groaning in pain as he watches the bandage on his shoulder tearing off as the muscles in his left shoulder grew larger, the claws growing on his hands getting larger.) Huh? What the….sheeeell? (He groaned in pain by covering his face as the green fur started to grow all over his body grew in size, his muscles growing larger as his arms and legs stretched, his blue mask, sword strap, belt, elbow and knee pads torn off apart and fall into the floor, crashing things expert the mirror, fangs in his mouth, he screamed and roared) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Venus and Jenny ran into the room, they used the flashlight show the remaining of Leonardo’s gear and blue mask strewn across the floor, the light finds him double mutated into a beast looking like a wolf creature of himself. They both gasped at they saw him growling at them.

Jennika: (grabbing a knife as she yelled at him) BACK OFF! (Leo growled at her, slashing on his right shoulder and he roared in pain, then Venus is seeing him by looking at her.)

Venus: LEO! STOP! (While Leo’s vision became warped, now fully transformed like a were turtle as he saw Venus and Jenny in horror) Leo please don’t move, I’ll look at it. (Jennika ran into the basement by she grabbed Leo’s mask and gears as she escaped to cell the other. A red gleam on slitted pupils, he groaned as she tried to calm him down, whispering) Leo, what’s the shell is happening to you?

Leonardo : Get away from me (deep voice and growling)

Venus: (whispered) Leo, I’m know you are in lots of pain and I’m need to talk to you about….

Leonardo: (bared his teeth at her) I SAID GET AWAY FROM ME! (He then grabbed her, by she screaming, Jenny heard her scream, he ran out of the apartment’s window crashing down, he howled at the moon, she screamed in horror)

Meanwhile Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello ran back to the apartment, they used the flashlight show these a some blood on the floor. They saw Jenny walking out of the basement, something about happening to Leo?

Raphael: (they looking the evidence, Mikey shivered in horror and Donnie picked up the bandage as what’s he seeing) More freaky monsters in there, I don’t believe that monster killed Leo with an iron claw.

Michelangelo: (shivering in fear) Do you say M M M Monster got Vee!

Donatello: Uh, guys?

Jennika: I heard Leo screaming, Venus and I saw him changing into a monster like a werewolf movie, by destroying things by I found his mask fell on the floor, after I used a knife to slashed him in the shoulder, she captured by him by breaking out of the window earlier. (Raph, Donnie and Mikey gasped and shocked about Leo’s double mutation)

Donatello: Jen is right, the beast is Leo.

Raphael: WHAT! How?

Michelangelo: No! This can’t be!

Donatello: The monster is Leo, remember he is infected by the outbreak we fought that’s mutant cockroach earlier in our new home.

Leo howled in the middle of the night while grabbing Venus on his right arm as Venus screaming in horror.

Leo’s mutated form is similar to Donnie’s in the series. For the upcoming “Draw This In Your Style” on February 13th, 2026.

Finally getting around to uploading this. This was my gift to @the-l-files as part of the TMNT Holiday Gift Exchange hosted by @catbowserauthor!

This was a lot of fun to work on and offered some challenges as I wanted to try some new things.

I love coming across little moments of Raph being protective of his brothers

Like here in s3 ep24 'Bishop's Gambit' when Raph realizes Bishop's cyborg can heal itself quickly, you can see his expression turn into "oh shit, this thing is not only capable of killing us but any damage we do to prevent that will be undone in seconds"

And what does Raph do as soon as he realizes how much more dangerous this guy is than he originally thought?

He pushes his baby brother out of the line of fire

It's instinctive. He doesn't hesitate. He can handle the possible damage that's coming his way, but not if Mikey gets hurt in the crossfire.

I know you’re a bishop blog so I hope this isn’t annoying. Way back when you mentioned you loved all the turtles in 03. So I was wondering I am curious to hear your general thoughts like on Raph for an example and if you ship him with anyone?

It's not annoying at all!

I'm not exclusively a Bishop blog he just takes up a good percentage of my brain haha. I'm happy to talk about any of the turtles or other characters (especially the 03 characters since I'm most familiar with them and they were the first iteration I saw as a kid).

I'm actually open to writing prompts involving any of the 03 characters and currently working on a couple as we speak, one involving Leo and Raph, and one with all the brothers rescuing Mikey.

(Oh boy this one got long...I may do a format like this for each of the 03 turtles if that's something anyone would be interested in)

General thoughts:

But to answer your question, I adore Raph. Unlike Leo or Mikey who both have certain versions of their characters that I don't really care for, there is no version of Raph that I even dislike.

He's popular for a reason. He's emotional, sensitive, and passionate.

03 Raph in particular I had a small crush on as a kid because of two particular episodes. In the B plot of 'Touch and Go' he helps a blind elderly woman save her apartment when she confides in him that she's being forced out of her home because she cannot afford the mortgage since her husband died. He just makes himself helpful and sits and talks with her. Her cat Lucy also immediately takes to him ♥️ which is super cute.

Another episode 'Lone Raph and Cub' centered on Raph helping a kid save his mom from some mobsters. The kid is just as impulsive, short tempered, and sensitive as he is, and it was so sweet to see him breathe through his initial frustrations and choose to be more mature and talk to this kid respectfully to work out a plan to help him. For once Raph had to be the more mature one and he gets some perspective on where Leo is often coming from.

If you can't tell I love that we get to see him be vulnerable in the series. He's truly very kindhearted, just as much as his brothers even if he can come off as prickly to outsiders initially.

Which leads into my second point of why I love him: his protective nature. Raph will go into the circles of Hell and back for the people he loves. He is always putting himself in the line of fire if it means he can defend someone he cares for. He's always butting heads with Leo in most iterations, but he's the first to walk up on someone who threatens his older brother or any of his brothers really.

If I can use 03 as an example again, in 'The Ultimate Ninja' when a warrior challenges Leo to a duel, Raph immediately steps in and basically tells the guy to fuck off and that the guy will need to go through him if he wants to get to his brother. Gold star protective Raph moment 🌟

Throughout the series in general there's also a running theme of Raph being the one to step in and save/help Donnie during fights when he's in trouble. It's super wholesome.

And we all know how protective he is over Mikey. I pity the poor soul who makes the mistake of hurting Raph's baby brother.

2012 Raph is very similar to 03 in a lot of ways. I get very happy when I see a compilation of him being worried over/saving/protecting Mikey.

Favorite Raph moments of the 2012 series:

When Raph threatens Leatherhead to get away from Mikey

When Raph absolutely crashes out over Spike hurting Mikey right in front of him

He's the ultimate version of "only I can make fun of my siblings. If you do it, you're dead."

He's also very funny at times. We all know the classic Yo Mama joke the 03 series served us the first time he meets Hun. Which really does set up their dynamic so well for the rest of the series. Hun is big and trying to be scary and threatening, and Raph is not having any of it.

I've gone into it in another post about how I wished Hun was framed more as a personal villain for Raph and that that was explored more. They have a lot of similarities but choose very different paths. And because Raph is familiar with the whole "oh I'm a big scary tough guy" act, of course he's not gonna be phased by Hun's intimidation tactics.

Shipping:

03 Raph is not a version I have a ship for (although I can see why people enjoy him and Casey). I am open to reading fics that have him paired up with an OC so long as the dynamic not an unhealthy one. I have read too many fics in the past that fall into the trap of making him controlling and borderline sexist due to how he's written (when he's written to have a human woman love interest). That kind of dynamic just does not interest me and never really has.

Don't get me wrong, I think exploring his insecurities and anger issues in this context is prime writing material. I see him as being the most insecure one of the four when it comes to his outward appearance and that would of course carry over into a romantic relationship especially if his love interest was a human. He'd likely wonder why they would even want him when they could have a more "acceptable and normal" partner. It's heartbreaking stuff and great opportunity to explore his feelings and for his partner to be very reassuring. Every time a character like Raph is treated with kindness and patience instead of being villainized for simply having and expressing big feelings, I am healed a tiny bit more.

(I am personally toying with creating a 03 version of Mona Lisa myself since I like the idea of him having a partner but it's still only a concept in my head at the moment without any writing or art to go with it yet. Maybe I'll make a post about her and Raph in the future idk)

As far as ships go for his character across the TMNT universe, I am a fan of the 2012 version of him and Mona Lisa and the IDW version of him and Alopex. They are both very cute and surprisingly healthy relationships.

I live for relationships where a guy has emotional issues and his partner, rather than babying or mothering him, instead inspires him to be better by just being themself and validating his feelings while also not accepting any disrespect or borderline abusive behavior. Not that Raph is abusive. I've seen that take before and I do not care for it at all. He has moments where he says stuff impulsively that he almost immediately regrets and him having a partner who supports him while also keeping him in check is a good fit for his character. Especially when he apologizes and acts as that same support for them in return.

I adore these IDW series panels in particular. They are so cute!

Both Mona and Alopex also beat him in combat/sparring at least once too, and I think his universal Type no matter the iteration would be a person who can land him on his ass. Match his energy and all that. Lord knows Leo could use the break haha.

In conclusion: I love angry mutant turtle boy ♥️
