2019/6/22 영국 출장에서 사온 식빵걸이 (지나가다 시간 떼우러 아주 잠시 들른 thrift store에서 푼돈 주고 갔다), 포트넘메이슨에서 사온 마멀레이드와 홍차로 즐긴 아침식사.     포트넘메이슨에서 이번에 또 한가득 지고 왔는데... 물건이 좋아 갔지, 쇼핑하는 내내 어찌나 복잡하고 정신없던지.. 그닥 상쾌한 경험은 아니었다. 로컬들은 크리스마스와 같이 중요한 날 선물할때에 주로 간다던데, 뉴욕사람들이 타임스퀘어 가는 빈도와 비슷할 것 같다.

A dear Scottish friend sent me a thing I have wanted for so long.

Some kids tried to burn down the iconic modernist Toast Rack in Manchester this week. And honestly good on them. The building is beautiful and a brilliant example of British modernist architecture but its condemned to be converted into 200 luxury flats and a gym. Modernism is fundamentally about the utility of space and form over function. In this way its better for something perfect to be destroyed than to be turned into exclusive space for a very small number of people. The kids who tried to burn it down were obviously just in it for kicks but really they were being true to the philosophy of modernism. Ash and rebar is more useful than luxury flats.
