Out of interest, what vegan toiletries do you use? I'm trying to find out what's good to use. As you're also British I thought you'd be the best to ask.
Lush is a rad shop which has loads of really cool natural products ranging from soaps to bath bombs to face masks to powder deodorant. Almost everything is vegan (some things use honey) and they are keen on recycling and minimising environmental impact as well as doing campaigns for a range of issues. All the products smell delicious and work well but are pretty costly. The shops are full of really friendly helpful staff too. Vegan Society certification on the products which are vegan and Vegetarian Society certification on the veggie ones.
All the Co-operative own brand toiletries I have seen have had a "Contains no animal ingredients" label and are not tested on animals. Because it's own branded it's a lot cheaper than all the branded products they have for sale. I get my toothpaste from there as well as washing up liquid and shaving gel. The Co-op is also a really good, small chain shop which has great ethics behind it. I'm a member myself and get a small cut of the company profits as I am, essentially, part of the company as it is a co-operative. A lot better than shopping in large chain stores.
Original Source do a range of shower gels, stuff for baths, shampoos and deodorant among other things. Usually sold in most shops and have Vegan Society certification on the products which are vegan. As like Lush, some contain honey too. A lot cheaper and more easy to find than Lush stuff but contain a lot more chemicals. I also believe they are owned by PZ Cussons - which I'm sure isn't that posi.
And I think that Superdrug own branded products are also animalfree and not tested on animals but I'm not 100% sure. I've never really investigated it myself but I have a feeling that my friend told me that that was the case. So if you have a store nearby then go check it out and see if it is. If not, it might be another shop that I have in mind.
There are also some vegan online stores like Animal Aid which have section for vegan toilteries. I got some hemp sun lotion from their site but am yet to use it. Only drawback is that these are usually quite expensive.
