Preparing for TolkienAlong. Which one should I read? The fascimile of the first edition or the revised illustrated one?

They (Hobbits) are inclined to be fat in the stomach; they dress in bright colours (chiefly green and yellow); wear no shoes, because their feet grow natural leathery soles and thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads (which is curly); have long clever brown fingers, good-natured faces, and laugh deep fruity laughs (especially after dinner, which they have twice a day when they can get it). 

Tried my hand at some gluten free hobbit-feet gingerbread cookies!!

Just a Bilbo appreciation post. Lil' dude is such an absolute brick. He even manages to surprise Gandalf. I'd forgotten how genuinely impressive it is to watch this comfortable, complacent fellow follow his Tookish impulses and then, even when he's lost the drive and just wants to go home, pluck up the courage to see his adventure through and even save the day. Was there ever a better burglar? I think not.

(also: goddammit Thorin and co. are great but also very ungrateful as soon as they are mildly inconvenienced)

🧙‍♂️The Return of the King🧙‍♂️ . QOTD: Whats your favorite fantasy series? . The Return of the King is the ninteenth book I read for the #clearurshitreadathon for the prompt: book with a map. I also read this for the #tolkienalong . This is the conclusion to the Lord of the Rings trilogy and follows the members of the fellowship as they finish their quest. . Like the rest of the series, I listened to this on audio and really had a great time revisiting this story. I can't say too much without spoiling the rest of the series but I will say that this went on to further solidify Merry and Pippin as my favorite characters in the series. They showed incredible bravery in such difficult situations. Considering the fact that they truly never had to join this quest, I find their actions so admirable. I will say that I think the films did wonders for the narrative structure because I found the book's structure to be a bit tedious. I did, however, appreciate getting so much more of the story after the main quest is over which isn't present in the films. .
