Wanda 🤝 Tommy—having strangely ill-defined romantic relationships currently that’d I’d be totally on board for if they got explored in a bit more depth

Todays issue obviously said they were broken up, but also left the idea that they might not be completely? Either a casual thing or like, an open offer to get back together, or something else entirely

It’s not ideal but I can see the in-universe appeal of casual W/J… they have at least 5 jobs between the two of them, it’s realistic a romance would be hard to maintain, but they’re also adults who can reasonably maintain something less traditional. I feel like the vague implication with David and Tommy is that they both have stronger feelings but haven’t been great about communicating those.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about the future of their relationship. A huge part of Wanda's new status quo is that she's grown, she's more mature, and she's finally able to create for herself the stability she's been looking for this whole time. Based on how they were written in Uncanny Avengers, I think that a partnership with Jericho would fit into Wanda's new life perfectly, and it would really compliment the ways in which she's developing-- but it would make the most sense as a comfortable, laid-back dynamic. I would want it to be a slice of peace in Wanda's life, not part of all the high-stakes action.

And I think one of the cool things you can do with superheroes is write a casual or long-distance relationship that doesn't suffer from any of the drawbacks or challenges you might expect, because if you teleport and make portals, there are no barriers to intimacy or communication. But again, that works the best for mature, self-assured adults.

Very young characters, like Tommy and David, require more momentum and excitement, and I think you're right-- the tease is that they have stronger feelings but can't communicate or commit to them. Part of that is just because Williams set a really bad tone for their relationship in X-Factor, and part of it, I think, was just because the Krakoan era was really big on vague, noncommittal relationships. In theory, I'm all for non-traditional relationship models, but that was never really represented in any meaningful way-- it was all just weird hints and situationships.

David comforting Tommy from a nightmare!

It was cold,  cold, why was it cold, there was something warm, wet.. What was that? Why.. Pain, but he always felt pain. Needles, knives, zaps, no matter how much he ran he could never…

There was so much screaming around him he couldn’t escape, blood, he moved his hand to his throat, there it was, the only warm thing, his own life, it was so cold and another doctor was coming in.

More experiments, god please no more experiments, please please!! Someone let me out!! He heard his voice say but no one heard. No more needles please no more no more!

 He woke up with a jolt, kicking whoever it was who was touching him, ready to fight, and saw a worried David and considered running, feeling, David touched his arm softly, as if sensing his thoughts. Tommy took in a shaky breath and tried to smile, he failed.

He felt his eyes sting and jolted out of his boyfriends touch.

“Tommy.” Davids voice was soft and calm, rational and comforting and Tommy wanted nothing more than to hear David talk forever in that moment, but he was too scared to say anything.

His throat felt raw and his breathing was heavy, he saw David move closer to him, yet still keep a distance.

“Honey, can I hug you?” A soft whisper, Tommy was shaking and he bit his lip, and nodded. He felt the warm arms around him, warmer than the room from his nightmare. David wasn’t going to ask anything about the nightmare, not yet, Tommy knew that, and he appreciated it.

He slowly hugged back, relaxing just a bit.

“Let’s lie down, okay? You can use me as a pillow.” Tommy nodded, placing his head on Davids chest, he thought for a moment he could feel metal against his throat and his hand flew up.

“Hey, hey you’re okay, you’re safe. You’re here, with me, you’re in our apartment, no one’s hurting you.” David whispered, stroking Tommy’s hair. Tommy lowered his hand from his neck, but he didn’t nod.

Eventually a tears started falling from Tommy’s eyes and David kissed Tommy’s head, then moved to kiss the tears away. He stroked Tommy’s face and the speedster felt a bit calmer, a bit safe, a bit at home.

He buried his face into Davids neck and steadied his breathing, they stayed like that, David stroking Tommy’s hair, Tommy gripping on to David like a lifeline.

Tommy felt himself become tired again, hearing David breathe, feeling the warmth of his boyfriends arms around him, and started to drift off, before he fell asleep, though, he murmured a soft “I love you.”

David heard it.
