Top Five Miyu Irino Roles

This is PART ONE a series of posts for Miyu’s birthday!

This one is going to be done like Hosoya’s birthday but a little different.

Basically, I’m skipping the song recommendations because I don’t listen to a whole lot by him, I’m not the biggest fan of Kiramune, and there are people that are far more qualified than me to make a better list.

I think CLAMP was responsible for Code Geass’s character designs too.

I’ve only watched an episode of this dubbed in English.

Everyone likes a good mom friend. They always put your life together when no one else can/cares.

Haku - Spirited Away

He took on this role before he hit puberty, so technically, you will never hear him like this again. Of course, I watched Spirited Away, but I watched it dubbed.

Honourable Mentions (That I Have Seen):

Shin and Shun - Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo

They’re brothers with the exact same name (minus a letter), face, and voice. Not confusing at all... It was a genuinely nice movie though. He and Hisako Kanemoto were good.

Minato Namikaze (Young) - Naruto Shippuden

That was romantic as heck. Kushina should’ve been Hokage though.

Tadakuni - Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou

This one was very close to making it. I even rewatched a few scenes, and this anime was funny.

Top Five Roles

5. Todomatsu - Osomatsu-san

The cutesy member of the sextuplets is also the last one of the bunch. Underneath his persona, he can be weirdly cruel, and with brothers like that, the antics really... go places. I think they casted this one really well.

4. Ritsu Kageyama - Mob Psycho 100

An envious perfectionist at heart, Ritsu seems like the perfect younger brother at first who has the intelligence to really go places. He secretly feels inferior to his brother who he cares for dearly. Ritsu is a character that I really like and relate to even if he’s a bit chaotic at times. Miyu’s voice brings a good amount of his facade to light while secretly harboring darker secrets.

3. Chizuru Tachibana - Kimi to Boku

At first, I hated this guy with a passion. I almost wanted to drop the anime and call it a waste of my time, but that flipped so fast once I decided to give it another chance. Chizuru reminds me of Minorin from Toradora. They give off an energetic carefree facade (wait, why do so many of his characters hide behind facades?) only to realize that they use it to hide their true emotions. Chizuru learns about love (along with his friends), and it’s one of the biggest turning points of the series.

TIED for Top Place:

Jintan - Anohana + Shouya Ishida - Koe no Katachi

There’s a first time for everything, and both of these roles broke my heart and gave me feels even if tears weren’t present. I tried picking one, but it led to me rewatching scenes and deciding that ultimately, both roles were so strong. Both of these roles cemented his talent as an actor for me. Both taught me so much (the value of life, communication, happiness, etc.)

If you like one anime, you will probably like the other, and both were strong anime that I wish more people would watch.

I WON’T BE TALKING ABOUT THE LAST TWO ROLES BECAUSE THAT WOULD SPOIL THINGS. IF YOU WATCHED EITHER SERIES/MOVIE, YOU’D UNDERSTAND WHY.

Top Five Sugita Tomokazu Roles

No words for this guy. Reading isn’t the same as watching when it comes to his roles. I first watched him as Karasuma from Assassination Classroom, but I didn’t know how much he was a jokester. 

His birthday is on October 11th, and since it’s already the 11th in Japan, I decided to post this now. He will be turning 38 (oh wow, how old). He’s really funny, and he’s one of my favourite seiyuu.

There isn’t even a gif for this one, but unlike all of the other roles here on the list, this one is a more dramatic role. It shows emotional vulnerability and really tests his abilities as an actor, and if you haven’t seen it, consider it.

Top Five Kenichi Suzumura Roles

Happy birthday to Maaya Sakamoto’s husband, Kenichi Suzumura! He created his own agency called Intention, and he created the whole Ad-Live event! It’s been going on for years now, and it’s certainly quite something? I’ll probably be checking it out this year as it comes out. Just a couple of roles that I’ve watched that didn’t make it onto the list are Haruki from Honeyworks (he sang some songs from there which deserves the shout-out) and Foyfoy from Senyuu (because it was funny). 

Honourable Mentions (I Haven’t Seen)

Atsushi Murasakibara - Kuroko no Basket

He will know something that I will never experience, and that’s the feeling of being tall. That giraffe-like freak. Pssh. I don’t need height! *struggles to reach cookies*

Shingo Wakamoto - Prison School

(This is the only PG one)

I don’t and won’t watch Prison School. That’s just a fact. I hear it’s funny, but it’s just not my type of show.

Mikoshiba Momotarou - Free

I haven’t watched Free yet.

Tsubaki Asahina - Brother’s Conflict

(didn’t find a gif and couldn’t tell the difference between the brothers because they suffer from “same face” syndrome. Seriously, why are character designs like this?)

5, Ka Koubun - Magi

The manipulative advisor to one of the Ren princesses, he definitely gets his own little spot on his list. He’s quite the trickster, so I like how his mood and voice changes on a whim.

4. Mikiya Kokutou - Kara no Kyoukai

I’ve only watched three or four out of the eight Kara no Kyoukai movies, but this is where he worked with his current wife Maaya Sakamoto (before they got married). I hear it goes along in a weird timeline, so I probably should’ve watched all the movies back to back.

3. Iyami - Osomatsu-san

*insert SHEEEEH sound effect*

Yeah, he’s part of the questionable but kinda funny Osomatsu cast.

2. Yoshitake Tanaka - Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou

Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou (Daily Life of High School Boys) was really funny and relatable at times, so I just wanted to give this role a high spot because it was like a Gintama reunion. You have so many shared seiyuu, and they make the show really funny (what else would you expect from the Gintama seiyuu?)

1. Sougo Okita - Gintama

(This is the way my sister looks at me when my mom says she’s right)

Speaking of Gintama, we had to make this sadistic samurai as number one. He’s one of my favourite characters in the show (I’ve watched around 50 episodes, so I guess that isn’t a fair statement, but oh well...) When he tried to stop a date and ends up stuck on the back of a rollercoaster spilling a life secret, that really made me laugh. Really, you have to watch Gintama to figure it out. He’s the “love interest” of Kagura, and that’s a ship that’s just... unique (I still ship it though).

Top Five Yuki Kaji Roles

Just starting this, I know I’m going to be leaving out a bunch. To be fair, he has too many (good) roles. Sometimes he doesn’t fit the role (which is the fault of the casting director), but I think he does a good job with whatever he plays.

Not going to lie, this list is influenced by: - How much I liked the series as a whole - Casting decisions - Character development (how much I liked the character) - Other things that have to do with my personal opinion

In this list, I will also not be including any series that I haven’t watched. An exception in this list is Attack on Titan because I have watched a lot of Eren’s pivotal scenes, and I feel like (even though I avoid the horror genre), he still deserves a spot here.

Due to me not watching all the anime he’s in, I will just list the shows that won’t be included on this list because of this reason alone: Haikyuu (Kenma), Guilty Crown (Shuu), High School DxD (Issei), Donten ni Warau (Soramaru), Servamp (Kuro), Black Butler (Finnian), Black Bullet (Rentarou) Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure (Kouichi). 

I also won’t even be mentioning Ao Haru Ride. I don’t like Kou. Voice didn’t match, anime wasn’t my thing, etc. I cringed too much watching that anime. That is all. 

Honourable Mentions:

Walker Yumasaki (Durarara!!)

Ironically, this character is an otaku. He’s so goofy, and I remember hearing his voice and going, “I recognize him.” And considering the fact that I watched Durarara before I really got into voice actors, that’s quite something. He makes a lot of pop culture and anime references, and I can respect that. Walker and his partner in crime Erika are a very iconic duo.

Ayato Kirishima (Tokyo Ghoul)

We just went from a one to a ten, didn’t we? Well, that’s voice actor range. I hated this casting decision at first. I thought that it was bad and wanted nothing to do with that. I eventually did change my mind. Could they have done better? Yeah, but I eventually grew to like it (love is too strong a word).

Naoya Nifuji (Wotakoi)

Back to the pure, are we? Ironically, Kento Itou (who plays Hirotaka) is born in 1988 (according to the Idolmaster Wikia while Yuki Kaji is born in 1985. Anyway, Naoya (sometimes called “Nao-chan” is honestly such a pure kid. He’s kind of bad at video games, but he gives it his all for the sake of others. Watching him just makes you want to give him a pat on the head. His innocence and purity are definitely exemplified by Yuki Kaji who nailed this role despite being a supporting character this time.

Sonic (One Punch Man)

RIP Sonic’s ballsack. Okay, but seriously, that scene was painfully hilarious with emphasis on the pain. He did a good job portraying it (along with Madhouse’s animation which just added the absolute torture on his face along with the jiggle). I thought this didn’t standout voice-wise at first, but I rewatched the scene a few times and have had the whole thing grow on me... as horrid as it was. Here’s the scene.

Meliodas (Seven Deadly Sins)

Okay, this is partially because I didn’t like the Seven Deadly Sins. Ban is a much better character than Meliodas. I didn’t like Meliodas as a character, but it was no denying that he had a good voice actor backing him. Meliodas’ English counterpart was none other than Bryce Papenbrook (who I don’t like). Go figure, I think he portrays the perverted hero quite well even if I don’t like him.

5. Shion (No. 6)

I have so many thoughts on this anime that need to be saved for another time. Shion is one half of the dystopian duo (*cough* SHIP SHIP SHIP *cough*). He’s an intelligent sheltered kid at first, but then he gets wrapped into stuff that’s way bigger than him. Shion has a painful “Eren-like” transformation scene. Every protagonist has to experience pain on a large not-human scale, right?

4. Shouto Todoroki (Boku no Hero Academia)

Who can forget that Shouto vs Deku fight? That was full of epicness. I was almost jumping in my seat when I watched it. The “Handcrusher” isn’t always the most perceptive socially (same), but he has so much power... as long as he gets his sleep. He might not have the most emotional range, but he does have a lot of good moments. It weirdly took a while for this role to set into place for me, but now he’s one of my favourite characters.

3. Eren Jaeger (Attack on Titan)

*intense screaming* Yeah, that’s kind of this role in a nutshell. “I will kill all the Titans even though I am one!” It’s not every day where you see a bunch of giant nudists eating smaller clothed what people. There are too many scenes that Yuki Kaji has crushed in this series, and this is probably his most iconic role. He does a lot of stuff to support the show too which I respect. Get ready for season three people!

Bonus:

2. Yukine (Noragami)

Okay, Yukine is already dead, but you can tell that the little dude has been through a lot. Give him a break. He’s kind of witty and childish at times, but a lot of people don’t seem to like this character. This is partially because of how he was introduced to the series. He was bratty at first, but guys, look at his circumstances and where he’s coming from. He lives with a guy who doesn’t pay him. The guy he works for can do whatever he wants and experience little pain whereas he thinks one dirty thought and everyone goes wild at him. Yuki Kaji portrays the emotional pain of this character so well. That’s partially what I missed in the dub. He weirdly has a lot of youth in his voice despite being so old (I think anything over 30 is old). He really put his all into this role, and I really like Yukine and what Yuki Kaji did with this character, and I can’t stress that enough.

Here are some seiyuu event clips. The slipper incident is infamous. Miyuki Sawashiro is a legend for starting that. The cleansing scene was epic and a pivotal moment for Yukine’s character. 1. Alibaba Saluja (Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic)

It’s kind of hard to find people who have: 1. Watched this show 2. Watched it subbed But if you have, I commend you. I have watched both seasons and reads a couple arcs of the manga (I’m still about a hundred chapters from finishing the whole series). I’m really bad at explaining how much I love this character/role and why, but I’m going to try. If you don’t get it (or even if you do), go watch the show. It’s one of my favourites to this day. Alibaba is one of my favourite shounen protagonists. He’s goofy, makes honest mistakes, and tries his best. He’s similar to Naruto in ways, but I prefer Alibaba because he’s so much more relatable, and he has logic. According to his weaknesses, he gets fat easily. But anyways, this character has been through a lot. He has lost so many people along the way, and his life is a rollercoaster with him just grabbing on and hoping for the best. Yuki Kaji makes me laugh when the story’s funny and moves me when the story’s emotional. He makes the character who he is, and when I read the manga, I still read it in his voice. I can’t see it any other way. I love this character a lot, and I wouldn’t have anyone else voice him. As much as the dub is good, I refuse to watch it dubbed because I have so much attachment to the Japanese voice cast. This was the first non-Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh anime I watched. I have a massive soft spot for it. Can I just add how it also does a great job with its female characters? Morgiana is one of my favourite anime characters of all time. Top Five Hiroshi Kamiya Roles

I’m not including anime that I haven’t watched at least a few clips of, so that automatically excludes his roles as Akashi from Kuroko no Basket, Araragi from the Monogatari series (technically, I watched a few episodes, but I was too weirded out and prefer to keep some of that whole “sister” stuff in the way back), Trafalgar Law from One Piece, and a few other roles. And no, it isn’t his birthday. I would know, we share the same one.

Honourable Mentions

Ranpo Edogawa - Bungou Stray Dogs

As much as this pains me, I have to put him here because even though he’s one of my favourite characters, Hiroshi Kamiya’s voice doesn’t define him at all. I would literally not be fazed if they chose a different actor to begin with.

Souma Hiroomi - Working!! (Wagnaria)

(Dark haired one: Hiroshi Kamiya; Blond: Daisuke Ono)

I feel like this is Izaya except in a more tame manner. He collects dirt on people then uses it to mess with them. He has a bromance role along with his pal Daisuke Ono. It’s a lot of fun to watch.

Otonashi Yuzuru - Angel Beats

This one is probably an honourable mention because I haven’t watched this in a considerable number of years. But it’s still a darn good role and just didn’t make the cut.

5. Choromatsu - Osomatsu-san

Okay, maybe this is partially hear because his “Obama” line made me laugh pretty hard (among a few other moments from this character). The cast of Osomatsu is stacked, and this character is no exception. Most of the series kind of missed the mark for me (with a 60:40 ratio). But all of the jokes were carried because these voice actors (all of them who are really big) made it so that even if the writing was bad, it was still funny.

4. Izaya Orihara - Durarara!!

Yes, I’m aware of the fangirls, but he’s actually one of my least favourite characters out of the Durarara cast (I really like Celty because of design and Miyuki Sawashiro). Sorry, but he’s just a sadistic loner who can’t make friends. I guess it might be because I haven’t watched Durarara in a long time (still only finished the first two seasons). Izaya is crazy though. It’s another role that he takes on alongside many other talented seiyuu including Daisuke Ono. He plays so well off his friend then making for the iconic duo of Izaya and Shizuo.

3. Levi Ackerman - Attack on Titan

PROOF THAT SHORT PEOPLE CAN BE COOL, BADASS, AND POPULAR EVEN AMONGST GIRLS. Come on. He’s a badass, he has that tragic backstory edge, and he’s still alive. I don’t even need to write an explanation for this one. You people know what I’m talking about. Need more proof?

2. Natsume - Natsume’s Book of Friends

This is a slow-moving role, and I’ve only watched one season, but his chemistry with Kazuhiko Inoue is really amazing, and I would be lying if I said that this show didn’t have a good story. It’s slow, but it can pack a punch of feels for some. It’s a rare shoujo manga that doesn’t need romance to carry itself.

1. Yato - Noragami

Noragami is one of my favourite anime, and I think he really kicked the show up a notch. The whole cast of Noragami is amazing. I love Bishamon, Hiyori, Yukine (yes, I like Yukine. He’s a good kid), Kofuku, and Yato. I don’t really hate anyone in Noragami minus one villain in season two. Besides that, I think this one is self-explanatory if you’ve seen Noragami. Yato is a hilarious god who I would never want to be best friends with in real life.

Top Five Kouki Uchiyama Roles

Here’s a guy who voices a certain trope well but has not a whole lot of range. Yet, he makes it work for him. Unless the character is edgy, emo, evil, or an asshole, he usually either doesn’t take on the character or doesn’t do well with exceptions.

As usual, the ranking will be biased towards whether I like a character or a series or whether I watched it fully or not. Characters from shows that I haven’t seen will be mentioned in the paragraph below.

I’m a huge fan of him, so this time I’m going to keep the honourable mentions that I haven’t see here in the introduction. Here are the unseen honourable mentions: Meruem (Hunter x Hunter), Daryl Yan (Guilty Crown), Banagher Links (Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn), Makoto Tsukimoto (Ping Pong Animation), Natsuno Yuuki (Shiki), and Natsuki Usami (Tsuritama).

Honourable Mentions (That I’ve Seen Partially or Fully):

Yuu Otosaka (Charlotte)

Here’s the edgy type. He almost killed someone with a dango stick then got caught up in a forced romance. That’s probably why he’s so low on the honourable mentions list. He still made it up here though because Kouki managed to keep a straight face while acting in this clusterf--k of a series, he still did quite well performance-wise, and it wasn’t bad enough that I got SAO (second arc) flashbacks or something.

Kei Tsukishima (Haikyuu!!)

Hey look, it’s an asshole. Okay, that’s a little harsh, but Tsukki isn’t exactly the guy I would call “nice”. Besides Ennoshita, Yamaguchi is really forgettable for me (having only watched around ten episodes) besides the fact that he was Tsukki’s follower. Seriously, there are compilations of Yamaguchi saying, “Tsukki!” Shout-out to Saito Souma for that though. But Kouki does a good job portraying the tall guy (he’s tall in real life too).

Yuuta Asaba (Kimi to Boku)

(I probably got the wrong twin, didn’t I?)

When they said identical twins, I didn’t realize that I would have such a hard time differentiating Ryouhei Kimura and Kouki Uchiyama. Their characters look and act the same for the most part. But still, episode seven just made this character bump up a lot because that was some cute stuff right there. That’s the good fluff. I appreciate that.

Yuri Plisetsky (Yuri On Ice)

Yeah, it was almost a tie between number five and this, but I went with this. Yuri(o) is just an absolute asshole, but he’s still my favourite human character from Yuri on Ice (Makkachin is the real MVP, and you can’t convince me otherwise). This was probably only placed here because the next role had more range in emotion besides the “HAAAAAAAAA”, it had singing, and it was just a better anime overall. But don’t worry, you’ll still have all your “HAAAAAAAAA”s Yurio.

5. Takumi Sakagami (Anthem of the Heart)

Have you ever wanted to watch a movie with a person who is cursed to never speak by an egg with a fairy tale musical involved? Well, do I have the movie for you! It’s a funny-sounding premise, but it works so well, and I can’t emphasize that enough. This movie was one heck of a rollercoaster of relatability and feelings. You might understand a little better after you’ve watched it. And would you look at that, this role isn’t edgy or emo. Shout-out to Hosoya for telling him about the movie!

4. Akira Fudou (Devilman Crybaby)

Not going to lie, this placed a little low because I couldn’t finish Devilman. It was... too much. I’m sorry. I do know that it was a demanding role though. Too bad Kouki barely knew what he was in for. He thought he was going to end up as Ryo. No, that satanic gay disaster went to none other than Ayumu Murase or Hinata from Haikyuu. Basically, the innocent one is the crazy one here, and the edgy one is the naive devil here. Yeah... this show is wild for many reasons. But if you want to see a well-rounded character who is badass, powerful, vulnerable, naive, and emotional, look no further than Akira from Devilman Crybaby. It’s called Crybaby because this is what that character is essentially. I’m not going to include a clip for this anime because, if you didn’t know this already, this anime is not PG AT ALL.

3. Gin (Hotarubi no Mori e)

But this anime will make you the crybaby. Well, I can’t get too deep into this one. You really have to watch it for yourself. This role is one of the rarer cases where he doesn’t play someone who needs to be edgy, emo, or cool with an ego. He plays a vulnerable being that just wants to experience love. Along with the beautiful art and OST (not to mention the story), you really learn to appreciate the two leads in this one.

2. Tomura Shigaraki (My Hero Academia)

(need a hand there buddy? ...I had to say it)

This character gets too much hate. I searched him up, and half of these things were like, “Why Tomura is a bad villain and a failure.” Guys, he’s trying his best. I know he “looks better in the manga” which is kind of true, but Kouki’s voice makes up for that. He brings such a creepiness to him that you almost feel that much more scared for Deku whenever he faces him. You can tell he has quite of bit of insecurities too, but he seems to be a human with a crumbling soul. I hope to see more of him in the future.

1. Soul Evans (Soul Eater)

Yeah, bias. I told you there was going to be some. But I stand by this choice 110%. Soul is cooler than most of us can even dream to be, and as someone who watched this anime subbed, I can say that I grew really attached to the Japanese cast. Sure, the English cast did a phenomenal job, but Chiaki and Kouki as Soul and Maka will forever be the voices behind one of my favourite OTPs. He portrays Soul really well, and it shows when he goes through the fight scenes, the comedic scenes, the struggles within his character, and his relationships with the other characters. I hope they did a remake in the future, and if they do, I hope the cast will come and reprise their roles. But if you want to watch Soul Eater subbed, the whole thing is on YouTube. It’s uploaded by Funimation (not sure if it’s available abroad). Be aware that it’s not in HD though.

I technically watched the first season, but he has a more important role in the kinda-not-canon second season. I just realized that all these other honourable mentions are redheads.

5. Junichiro Tanizaki - Bungou Stray Dogs

Yeah, I still like Bungou Stray Dogs to the point where I know this is just plain bias, but I managed to keep at this place. He’s a minor character with a questionable relationship with his “sister”, but nonetheless, he has some awesome scenes.

4. Mahiro Fuwa - Zetsuen no Tempest

What’s with these characters and liking their “sisters”? This one likes his stepsister (whom he met when he was ten or something). I didn’t like this anime, but it had Kouki Uchiyama and Miyuki Sawashiro in it, okay? Plus, Toshi plays a badass lead. He’s the rugged “tall” (in the anime, not real life) thuggish brother. So yeah, if you want to see Kouki Uchiyama and Toshi acting together (like Yuri on Ice) there ya go. I can’t say it’s a good anime, but it has Miyuki Sawashiro and all the awesome people so that automatically landed it on my watch later.

3.  Shun Matsuoka - Kimi to Boku 

Kouki Uchiyama and Toshi are in this one too! I’ve watched the first seven episodes, but you get more of his “Yuuri Katsuki” voice here. He plays a feminine guy with long hair. It has an awesome cast (Kouki, Toshi, Yuuki Ono, Kimura Ryouhei, and Miyu Irino), the story is simple but nice, and it’s just about some dudes going through high schools (take it as you want, but I don’t ship any of the mains together).

2. Mikado Ryuugamine - Durarara

I’ve only watched the first season, but this one is also a more soft-toned role. There isn’t too much to say about this role without getting into spoiler territory, but this is why I don’t make friends with the blonde bartender who throws street signs, the headless bikers, the crazy coots, or anyone in general. You never know who’s going to end up being a gang leader.

1. Yuuri Katsuki - Yuri On Ice!!!

Bruh, what else would it even be? I’m not ready for the YOI backlash. You fans are strong and passionate. His name is Katsuki, and he likes Katsudon, and his goal is to win (Katsu!). He’s a good guy who landed a fangirl’s dream. He’s the less edgy of the Yuri’s, and he’s a pioneer in mainstream gay anime. It has awesome animation and a good OP too.

Top Five Yuuki Ono Roles

In honour of Yuuki Ono’s birthday, I decided to make a top five role list. 

As usual, for me to put a character on this list, I would’ve had to watch at least a couple of episode of their given series with their character in it or at least a good number of clips that showcase them or something. It’s really by my own bias discretion. Since a lot of good roles don’t make it onto the list (because I don’t watch all their roles), I would like to give a few honourable mentions before we start the top five.

Honourable Mentions (That I Haven’t Watched):

Josuke Higashikata (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure):

Okay, I still haven’t watched Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure yet, but I want to watch it eventually. I’ve seen clips and stuff, but I only know that you shouldn’t insult this guy’s hair. That’s about it. I want to watch it just to see some of my favourite seiyuu being badass though. 

Taiga Kagami (Kuroko no Basuke):

Here’s the second most popular Taiga in anime! I just count Taiga Aisaka as the first for obvious reasons. I just have a habit of avoiding sports anime. All I know is, you got yourself a crap-ton of puns and a gay rainbow with a huge exaggeration of basketball (gosh I hate basketball and volleyball because of my experience in real life which obviously have no relation to me being a puny wimp or anything). Anyways, here’s a character whose name isn’t a colour pun.

Shogun (Gintama):

He appears in episode 83 for the first time. I haven’t made it there yet. I do know his fate, but let’s just leave it at that. I’m not ready for the serious side of Gintama. Let’s just keep it at making fun of Shinpachi, please. But seriously, the clips I’ve seen make me think that Shogun is going to bring some good comedic relief with a darker twist. Let’s see how that goes.

5. Karasawa (Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou)

I can already hear the back of my mind going, “This is such a small role. This doesn’t deserve to be here.” Small character or not, I seriously liked this show. The only reason why I gave it a seven out of ten instead of an eight or nine is because the comedy for me is always hit and miss. Sadly, there were quite a few misses which I can’t just ignore. But don’t get me wrong, I really liked this show. If I were to change anything, maybe give this guy some more screen time, and give the high school girls some more good stuff. Honestly, all of them were kind of bitchy, but I would like to see what other high school girl stuff they can include (without them being bitchy). But seriously, Karasawa had some really funny moments. The cast was one of the things that made the show so funny, and I wouldn’t want to read the web manga for that reason. It just wouldn’t be the same. Here’s a clip of him mewing. Here’s the whole playlist.

4. Pin-senpai (Arai Kazuichi)

Another supporting role? Yeah, he has more supporting roles than lead roles in the anime I watch. This character is really simple, but he’s a nice breath of fresh air because hear me out, this series is a cheesy rom-com. To have a character that isn’t involved in relationships (so far) is really nice. He’s only in for the humour, and I like that just fine. He does a good job with it too. Here are some clips of Pin.

3. Masayuki Hori - Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun

(I don’t know about you, but these are OTP goals)

He’s technically a supporting role, but he’s kind of a main supporting role if you get what I mean. Hori is one half of the comedic duo that’s Kashima and Hori. They break down the stereotype that only girls are the “tsunderes” of relationships, and it’s really funny while doing it. I loved watching Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun. I still rewatch some of it to this day. Even if my favourite characters are Seo and Mikorin, I have to applaud the rest of the cast because this is a colourful show where the cast is really what makes the show great. Clips of Hori

2. Ashiya Shirou - Hataraku Maou-sama

I didn’t enjoy this anime as much as people said I would. My sense of humour is weird. I didn’t like the actual storyline. I found the overarching “supernatural” elements really weak, and so is the romance for that matter. The real good stuff from this show is in the comedy (where they spent a good chunk of their time). He’s the housewife while the demon king is the breadwinner who works at McDonald's (call it what you will, that place is McDonald's). He’s committed, devoted, and I really wouldn’t be surprised if someone on Tumblr made a yaoi/gay ship out of this. Somehow, Tumblr never fails in finding some weird ships that I didn’t know existed. Here are a couple of my favourite scenes here and here and here. They’re less than a minute each. I think one is about five seconds. And one of them has subtitles that go by fast, but it doesn’t matter. That priceless scream from Osaka Ryota and Yuuki Ono during the five-second one though.

1. Kaname Tsukahara - Kimi to Boku

Why does nobody seem to watch this show or read the manga? Why is this manga on hiatus? How long has it been? Is the mangaka feeling better yet? Mangaka need to take better care of themselves (I shouldn’t be the one saying that with the habits I have). But seriously, would you look at that? Here’s a role where he’s the protagonist. Kaname is our glasses protagonist who seems to be a good student, but he still hangs out with his group of weird friends who he has known since childhood (for the most part). Kaname is different from the rest of them, and they definitely do a lot to make sure of that, and I really liked the way that each of the characters is portrayed in this show. The cast is kind of stacked. Not going to lie, I watched it to hear Kouki Uchiyama playing a quiet character with some toned down edge. It’s so simple yet so nice to watch.
