Ya know what gets me about Fairy Tail? The fact that somehow, the Tartaros demons were instantly recognized as not human. FUCKING HOW?
In the Tower of Heaven arc, there’s a dude with an owl head, Millianna has legit cat ears, some guy in the Wizard saints has pointed ears, Wally was made of blocks, Juvia is made of water, Gray and Lyon can survive in below freezing temperatures naked, there’s that purple dude from Raven Tail, NATSU EATS FIRE AS AN ACTUAL LEGITIMATE FORM OF SUSTENANCE, Carla turns into a humanoid form and was mistaken for a human... HOW COULD THEY TELL THE TARTAROS DEMONS WEREN’T HUMAN? With all the strange features going on in Fiore, HOW could they tell that this one guild was not human just by looking at them?
I mean, maybe I can forgive it with Franmalth, Keith, and Ezel, but Seilah? Kyouka? Tempester? Jackal? They don’t look that different from the people we’ve seen up to this point!

What he says: Tartaros isn't scary.
What he means: The issue with Mirajane's Satan Souls rears its ugly head again. Looking at the Nine Gates of Hell (on top of Bloodman, Deliora, Lullaby, etc.), it's pretty apparent that the mangaka has no idea how to make a demon look scary at any length. Franmalth is the worst offender even in his base form, with one eye and clown lips with a striped Mike Wazowski body that just gets worse as he takes on soul forms, and is strongly reminiscent of something 90's Nickelodeon would come out with. Ezel looks like someone jammed a shark and an octopus together and gave it sword arms. Tempester looks like a poor man's barbarian warrior. Torafuzar just looks like an armored shark dude, pretty sure I saw him from Wizard101. Jackal is a bishounen furry. Keyes looks like a Grim Reaper figure crudely shoved into a preacher outfit. Silver doesn't count because he's both human and a DILF. Seilah literally just seems to be a provocatively-dressed beauty with horns. Kyoka rivals Franmalth by looking like a stripper who's trying to cosplay Freeza from DBZ. What the hell was Hiro Mashima on when he was designing demons?
