Tornado Emergency l Texas l US_Stormwatch
Don't know if this will help anyone on here but, there's a MASSIVE Tornado on the ground in Mississippi, get to shelter NOW, you can't accidently survive this kind of twister!
It occurred to me after seeing of a YouTube video of a European reacting to tornado footage that seeing a real tornado isn’t common, even for Americans. Seeing one hit the ground is even more uncommon. I lived in tornado alley for years and only saw one that actually touched down.
So, my question is:
Have you ever seen a tornado before? Have you seen one that touched down?
I have NEVER seen a tornado before
I HAVE seen a tornado before
I’ve only seen a funnel cloud

REMEMBER:
Tornado watch - the ingredients for a taco are here but haven't been prepared.
Tornado warning - Holy shit there's a taco
Tornado emergency - OH GOD, THERE'S A REALLY STRONG TACO COMING TOWARDS YOU!!!
Mile wide wedge tornado on the ground tracking NE near Hyannis, Nebraska as of 8:06 pm Central. If you know anyone there, try and let them know.
Fuck. The tri state tornado record (set way back in 1925) might get broken tonight. Holy shit. And this tornado has already touched FOUR states.
I don't think most people will realize how significant this is. As of right now, this tornado has been on the ground continuously for 150 miles. That's FUCKING INCREDIBLE, especially for a NIGHT tornado (as storms draw their power from heat).
I'd also like to remind everyone that this isn't your typical spring tornado outbreak. It's DECEMBER. And while it's not completely unheard of to have tornadoes in December, it IS unusual to have the amount of powerful tornadoes we've had in the past seven years.
THIS. IS. CLIMATE. CHANGE.
If you are in the path of the storms tonight, have your weather radios on, or your phones on loud. Please be safe and stay weather aware tonight.
OTD In 1999, the first Tornado Emergency was issued by the Norman, Oklahoma, USA NOAA National Weather Service office. The meteorologists considered the standard Tornado Warning not sufficient enough to convey the life-threatening scenario that was unfolding. This powerful tornado would go on to kill almost 40 people, injure over 600, and was the first single tornado in history to do more than one billion USA (1999) dollars in damage. Today, the Tornado Emergency is now an officially issued NOAA National Weather Service product and is only used only in the most dire scenarios when a strong to violent tornado is approaching a densely populated area and devastating damage and loss of life is almost a certainty or high probability.
Radar Comparison: Large Wedge Tornado Moves Through Newnan, GA 03/26/2021
You can see the debris in both the reflectivity scan and the Correlation Coefficient scan (Pink in the first, blue in the third) and you can see how it ties directly to the location of the tornado as indicated by the velocity scan by the blue and fuchsia swirl.
There are currently reports of damage near Newnan High School.
If you are in the path of this storm, this is a tornado emergency and you should be taking shelter now.
