Can We Talk About Toxic Non-Sharing Self-Shippers For A Second? 💀

Okay so I need to get something off my chest about a certain type of self-shipper behavior that's been bothering me lately.

Look, if you're a non-sharing self-shipper and you're uncomfortable with someone else shipping with the same character as you, that's totally fine! Just block them and move on, curate your own space, do what you need to do for your comfort. I completely respect that and there's nothing wrong with having those boundaries.

But when non-sharing self-shippers start acting like those old "SANS fangirl" types and HARASSING people who have the same F/Os?? Yeah no, I can't tolerate that shit 💀

Some of these toxic non-sharing self-shippers (and honestly some people who ship their OCs with characters too) will go as far as trying to "prove" why the character loves them and ONLY them. They'll be out here like "IF YOU DARE LOVE MY F/O I WILL KILL YOU" and actually make killing videos or art of your irl self, your persona, your OC, whatever - just because you happen to like the same fictional character!

That's not protecting your comfort, that's straight up harassment and threatening behavior! And I can't promise I'll be kind to people who act like that, especially if they come at me or my mutuals with that energy.

Look, I get that some people see their F/Os as real partners and have genuine emotional connections to them - that's valid and I'm not trying to invalidate anyone's feelings! But no matter how real those feelings are, it doesn't justify threatening or harassing actual real people over it. Your comfort with your F/O shouldn't come at the expense of someone else's safety.

There's a huge difference between "I prefer not to interact with people who share my F/O" and "I'm gonna harass and threaten anyone who dares to like the same character as me." One is a boundary, the other is bullying.

And just to be clear - I don't hate non-sharing self-shippers at all! I actually have non-sharing self-shipper friends and they're super cool and respectful! They just block and move on if they see someone with the same F/O, they don't make it everyone else's problem or start sending threats. THAT'S how you handle it like a normal person!

But the ones who take it to that extreme toxic level and act like they own a character? Yeah, I'm gonna call that out because it's not okay and it makes the whole self-ship community look bad.

Please don't come after me for this take - I just don't want people getting harassed for liking the same characters! And I'm sorry if this post comes across as me hating all non-sharing self-shippers, because that's definitely not what I'm trying to say! I just have an issue with the ones who take things way too far and hurt others.

Anyway, that's my rant. If you're a non-sharing self-shipper who just minds your business and blocks when needed, you're cool with me! But if you're out here making death threat art over fictional characters, maybe log off and touch some grass 💀

Fandoms and Their Awful Habit of Undermining Female Characters to Favor Popular Ships

Hello, Tumblr folks. I’m back to share my controversial opinions here. Although, to be honest, this wasn’t the topic I had planned for my return (that was supposed to be about Star Wars, a subject that had me reflecting for two whole weeks about what I wanted to say; honestly, it stressed me out more than university).

But back to the important matter: I’ve noticed a troubling pattern within the DC fandom, particularly among those who ship TimKon (Tim Drake x Conner Kent). There’s a tendency to minimize or even disparage the romantic partners or ex-love interests of these characters, which I find unfair and harmful.

A clear example of this is Cassie Sandsmark, the second Wonder Girl. The way she’s often portrayed in the fandom is, at best, terrible. Not to mention the hostility toward her over a supposed “infidelity” that never actually happened. This not only affects Cassie as a character but also highlights a broader pattern: female characters are often the first to be attacked when they “get in the way” of a popular male ship.

This behavior is something we see repeatedly across different parts of the fandom:

Linda Park, Koriand’r, or Barbara Gordon when it comes to BirdFlash.

Nika/Flatline in the case of JonDami.

Iris West and Carol Ferris when it’s about HalBarry.

Lois Lane, Talia al Ghul, or Selina Kyle with Superbat.

Cheshire and Kyle Rayner’s many partners when JayRoy or JayKyle are involved.

And, of course, Cassie Sandsmark, Tamara Fox, or Stephanie Brown in the context of TimKon.

Don’t get me wrong: I like many of these ships, but I don’t think it’s necessary to tear down other characters to elevate a pairing.

Are there canon ships that lack chemistry and seem to exist “just because”? Sure, I won’t deny it. But hating female characters solely because of questionable writing decisions by the creators or editorial teams? That’s a whole different story. At the end of the day, the problem is bad writing, not the characters themselves.

My advice is simple: enjoy the ships and stories you like, respect other people’s preferences, and don’t scapegoat other characters just because the canon doesn’t align with your ship. If there’s something you don’t like, let it go, forget about it, and focus on what brings you joy in the fandom.

Fandoms have the potential to be amazing spaces, but only if we learn to appreciate them with respect and empathy.

It's not even about shipping, you gassy fool! It's Kripke who wants Jared Padalecki in The Boys, not Jared forcing his way in. Maybe we like their chemistry and friendship and want to see them together again? Nothing wrong with that?? You're the one who keeps bringing up shipping!

As much as I love the ATLA fandom, we need to have a talk about the antis. Specifically anti-Zutara. More specifically the Aang stans. Now, let me begin by saying I don't mean everyone on that side of the fandom, but the few of them I am talking about are just...the absolute worst. I have never before- and God willing never again will be- part of a fandom where a very loud and obnoxious subsect will think it's okay to personally attack someone over their opinions about fictional characters. And I once said on a Sailor Moon page that I don't like Seiya (it was a whole thing. It got messy. Still, no one insulted or threatened me).

I was reminded yesterday why I tend to not engage in fandom on Twitter. I posted something critiquing Aang as a father, and my notifications were full of personal insults, anti-black comments, and outright lies on my character that one particularly uncreative stan pulled out of her anus. I'm not saying that Aang fans are the only toxic members of this fandom, but they are the ones that I see come out the most. Before anyone comes at me, let me reiterate that I know it's not ALL Aang fans (although, kicked dogs do holler), but it's enough of them. If all the only response you have to someone criticizing your favorite character is insults to the person criticizing, you have failed to actually defend your point. I think it's fair to assume at that point that you, at least on some level, know you're wrong.

Anyway, all this to say, this is unhinged behavior. None of the characters in ATLA are real, and I am allowed to express dislike for any of the characters for any reason, but I have lots of reasons not to like Aang. I would never personally attack someone who disagreed with me, and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the same courtesy. If you're reading this, and the idea of anyone not liking your favorite character fills you up with so much rage for that person specifically, you need to step back and figure out why that is. If that means going to talk to a therapist about why you over-identify with a fictional character, go and do that without shame. Because this attacking strangers online thing is unacceptable.

i just want y’all to learn some personal responsibility to set your own boundaries and disengage with certain media and its communities online, like i had to, instead of obsessing over what upsets you and choosing to constantly antagonize spaces specifically not designed for you

Not to be rude or anything but some of you all need to stop acting so entitled. You are not owed a trailer drop and it’s obnoxious to see people acting like it’s a crime against them to not be treated to content.

This also applies to people harassing members of the cast and producers on social media about the release of show content and promotional material.

I will not tolerate people giving this fandom a toxic reputation.

Quit acting like brats.
