One More Chapter
The first of many requests sent in by @sugarhazard for this challenge. She’s well aware of the fact that this is the only way to get me to write, and takes full advantage of that. Thanks babe, hope you like this!
30. “One more chapter.” Kyle x Token Word Count: 540
Kyle yawned, laying on his side in Token’s bed, the latest book from their AP literature class folded open in front of him. He fingered through the pages, bored, eyes reading and rereading the same lines over and over again, still not absorbing the information as he turned the page again. He stretched an arm over his head, the muscles in his side pulling as he did so, his dark green sweater moving with his arch. This was tiring. His study sessions with Token tended to end up like this. When they had Wendy, she always kept the two of them on target, pointing out things she noticed, leading conversation, and asking questions she knew the answer to as a means to hear the boys’ reasoning and opinions. When it was just the two of them, though, they were quieter. They didn’t feel the need to fill up their space with chitter-chatter. They were perfectly content to study in silence, waiting until they were finished to discuss their thoughts. Kyle shut his book, despite only being a couple pages into the chapter, deciding he’d have to read it over again anyway. He looked up, eyes watching Token, who was seated at his desk, slightly hunched over as he read, much more enthralled than Kyle had been. “Token? Do you mind if I stay over tonight?” He was met with silence. A smile found its’ way across Kyle’s lips. It was like Token was in his own little world sometimes when he got to studying. Kyle cleared his throat, trying again, “Token?” “Mm?” The other tilted his head as a means to show he was listening, eyes still scanning across the page. “Do you mind if I sleep over?” He yawned right on cue, as if to emphasize how tired he was. Token nodded, still not turning around. The Awakening just had some odd sort of charm to Token, and he couldn’t help but eat up the story. It genuinely surprised him that Kyle wasn’t as into the book as he was; Kyle had always been more of a reader than him. Ah well, he supposed it just hadn’t caught the other's interest. Fair enough. “I’m just going to read one more chapter and then we can turn in, alright?” Kyle was already putting his things back in his backpack, humming as he went, nodding some. “Alright, that works for me.” He stepped behind the other for a moment, hands resting on Token’s shoulders, slender digits working into the skin. Token let out a sound of appreciation, shutting his eyes for a moment. Maybe he’d just have to let the next chapter wait… He dog-eared the page he was on and shut the book, leaning back into his chair, craning his neck for the other boy. Kyle rolled his eyes, nuzzling his face into the other's hair. “That was a fast ‘one more chapter’.” Token let out a snort. Typical Kyle. He nodded, leaning his head back, looking at the other boy. “Mmh, you convinced me to turn in early.” The boys smiled at eachother, Kyle laughing as his thumbs worked into Token’s shoulders. He loved the study sessions when it was just them, even if he hardly got anything done.
