In 2012 Kylar made history by becoming the first openly transgender person to testify before the U.S. Senate. He was speaking in favor of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would prohibit employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. His truthful speech touched me then, and he continues to fight for transgender people now.
Kylar Broadus founded the Trans People of Color Coalition, and is a #CoolTrans man who inspires us!

A new must-see photo project, 'To Survive on This Shore,' offers moving portraits of a nearly invisible group: transgender elders.
Racial and Social Justice Institute
Pre conference session was a room packed of over 1000 activists that wanted to get more information on race and racism. Three important factors were shared such as: take risk and move beyond your comfort zone, Recognize and engage your triggers, and Trust the dialogue with deeper understanding and acceptance. Some important take away messages during the session were: “We must practice, not just hear!! Creating justice is more than race. Must be willing to do race, as it is more important.”
Several areas that were addressed include the following such as: race and racism, white privilege, internalized dominance and oppression, intersectionality, and Individual, group, and organization.
Some great conversation included building an anti-racist movement, as well as answering, who we are and to be whole and authentic in our own space.
Tips that were shared is to take care of yourself, which is so important, exhaustion by giving white supremacy to win, again, the racial justice movement facilitated by non People of Color, and lastly being taught to “not center: on our race.
The session included a great dialogue, being open-minded, and embracing diversity/inclusion.
