The Lost Valley (2024-2026) I just remembered I still have my Tumblr, here's a painting from February! A tribute to Lara Croft and the original Tomb Raider game and its iconic level The Lost Valley 🦖 Started this back when the first remaster was released and after at least a dozen different versions it's FINALLY done!

Some closeups + alternate versions (because I added the sunglasses near the end. Also in my head I was convinced they were gold framed)

Asuka ep next week wohooo \o/

Also so called it with Asuka and Yuriko having been Tennis partners and that Yuriko quit Tennis Club for Presidency...? Unless I understood something wrong, it seems that way. Kinda like how it was the teacher who spilled the news, Minori knew but respected Asuka in not telling. Minori, you're great.

Next week honestly looks amazing as it's focused on Asuka's Graduation Trip and wtf, did Laura sneak into the trip as well sajhgsfhfsg. Laura, what are you doing jasfhgh. I wonder if it'll help Asuka open up a bit and patch things up with Yuriko. I think I'd like that.

Day 3: Favorite character(s) besides Lara.

This time I’m going to be a bit more “controversial”, those who know me will understand why in a minute... sorry in advance, but I must be honest here.

First things firts: 1) KURTIS TRENT

As Lara’s sidekick and partner in crime - and why not, in real life - he was truly fitting, I liked how Core wanted to originally put so much emphasis on his characterization but unfortunately they had to cut most of the things they planned for him due to time restraints. Still, it really shows that Kurtis was meant to be an important part of Lara’s story, not just a mere random character making a volatile appareance only to then disappear forever. They had plans, even a spin-off game entirely dedicated to him. This speaks volumes.

2) NATLA (CORE DESIGN ERA)

One of the most carismatic characters beside Lara.

3) WERNER VON CROY

Lara’s mentor that later turned out to be on of her main antagonists. The halo of mystery surrounding Werner and its involvment post The Last Revelation is what truly caught my interest for this character, maybe also due to the fact that we sadly never got the chance to find out the continuation of AOD and therefore many questions were left unanswered with regards of his backstory.

4) MARCO BARTOLI

...To the sins of fortunes of Marco Bartoli!

What can I say? He turns into a freaking dragon. And I love dragons.

5) AMANDA EVERT (LEGEND)

Alright, long story short: If there’s one thing CD did right in their trilogy is a very badass female villain wearing dark clothes and sporting tattoos on her body. I just dig her style and the way she’s portayed, back in the days when I was into Legend (maybe I shall make a post about this to tell my teenage experience?) I remember being impressed with this brand new character and this sort of remained the same throughout the years to the point where I still believe she’s a good deal. Not in Underworld though, there were just something that felt a bit... off compared to Legend.

6) C’mon now... credits where they’re due, the DOPPELGANGER...

...is an enhanced version of Underworld Lara, and I’ve always kinda thought she was way better than every single Lara portayal CD has ever done. They got it right with a side character made to reflect some of Lara’s traits... that actually resembled the original Lara much more. THE BRAID GUYS, and the reddish hair. That black outift was also extremely cool. Not just that, the attitude was also on point. A real tough ass with a constant resting bitch face.

Day 20: Saddest Moments

For me, the saddest moment is when Lara has to shoot her own mother in Tomb Raider Underworld. After searching for her for two whole games, the moment we saw Amelia from behind, we were so excited that Lara would get to meet her mother again. As soon as we see she had been turned into a thrall as well, our hearts are just shattered. I can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like in Lara’s position. It’s just a devastating moment, and I’ve never seen anything like it in the whole franchise.

Day 2: What was the first Tomb Raider game you played? TOMB RAIDER II: the dagger of Xian… again. It’s the TR I hold closer to my heart for this very reason. I started playing when my uncle landed me some copies of some classics and my dad proceeded to play TR2 first while I used to sit there and watch in awe. That is how my passion began.

Day 26: Are you a Core Design or Crystal Dynamics supporter?

I’m going to be very honest about this topic. I am so sick of the war between the two companies; I think it’s just so dumb. I love all the main games of the franchise for many different reasons. I love the original five games from Core Design because the engine, graphics, and gameplay age well, are designed well, and provide nostalgia; Angel of Darkness as well, however buggy that game may be. The trilogy from Crystal Dynamics before the reboot hold some of my top spots of favorite games from the franchise. Like I said in a previous post, Legend brought in a new era of what Tomb Raider could be; it took the franchise to a new level. Anniversary and Underworld are also remarkable games, and I hate to see the flack that they get. This trilogy brought a new sense of gripping storytelling, engaging gameplay, and amazing action. I wish the original games had these elements; I feel that they could elevate them even more. The 2013 reboot ushered in a new era of Tomb Raider as well in tremendous ways. I love watching the franchise grow, and I can’t wait to see where it goes. So to answer the question, it’s a tie for me; both companies’ iterations of the games hold special places in my heart.

Day 22: Favorite Live Action Model

I’m not really too versed in all the models and their history, but my favorite is the one that I remember them promoting the most, which is Alison Carroll. I think she’s gorgeous, and she really captures the spirit of Lara. When I look at the older Lara models, the costumes look too tacky and overtly sexualized (which I know was a selling point back then). This model looks like she could have come straight out of a film. I wish I could model as Lara, but alas, I am a man.

Day 23: Favorite Voice Actress

This one is particularly hard for me because I love all the voice actresses from the games. Judith Gibbins’ voice exuded class and elegance, Jonell Elliott’s voice gave a sexy edge to Lara, and Camila Luddington pours her heart and soul into Lara. But my favorites have to be Shelley Blond and Keeley Hawes. Shelley’s voice in the original gave Lara youth, wit, edge, and power; I constantly think of her voice when I think of Lara. Keeley’s voice in Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld kind of summed everyone else’s qualities into one. I think she has the best voice for Lara, but I love Shelley’s interpretation so much. I often copy all the voice actresses’ isms and quotes on the daily, but I definitely quote Shelley the most.
