DeNA just blew up the Mix Scout big time! Apparently, he’s getting Incineroar for his Mix pair, which puts him at odds with the prior notion that, based on their starters, Elio would be the canon Alola protag, but considering Selene is definitely getting Primarina when she inevitably comes to the Mix Scout, that would mean SHE’S the canon Alola protag, following on from the Kanto trio’s Mix pairs, as well as the Sinnoh trio’s, considering Flint kind of made the pairings awkward when the game was new.

All this to say, it turns out the male option gets Grass, the female gets Water, leaving the rival with Fire, which will probably carry over to every set of protags where the boy doesn’t already have the Grass starter (meaning Brendan, Victor, and I guess Rei, even though I doubt Mix Hisui pairs are happening).
