The next day, something funny happened. (And Liam’s ugly looks thrown her way were part of it, but they seemed more deadly than envious.) The constant anxiety that tormented her every morning, knowing what would come next, waiting to be the victim of some prank by Theo… this made Tracy feel more paranoid with every step she took inside that school. He had this weird obsession with her. Tracy was his favorite target, and even knowing this, she still had feelings for him.

It was insane.

However, the idea of the two being obsessed with each other led Tracy to believe that they were soulmates. Painful and realistic soulmates. Far from children’s fairy tales.

So she put everything else behind her. Even with all the harm Theo had done to her.

Tracy still remembered the time Theo had somehow put a creepy clown head in her locker. He must have heard her conversation with Mrs. Martin about her nightmares after Lydia encouraged her to talk to her mother. Shortly after Tracy confessed her secrets, Theo began spreading them around school, making up lies about her, emphasizing her obsession with him. Making her look crazy and a liar. There was gossip and stares, laughter, papers stuck to her back and ridiculous messages on her locker.

Freak. That was her name.
