liam was the pinnacle of power. his anger and strength were dangerous, and theo saw it as a weapon to be harnessed. he was young and impressionable too; a perfect victim for theo's manipulation

he was almost disappointed when all his plans seemed like they required his death. liam would have been incredibly useful. but alas, theo couldn't have everything he wanted. he settled on the idea of putting liam's heart in a jar right next to his own on the top shelf in the doctor's storage room.

but when his plan goes wrong he's almosttt glad, because it meant he still got a chance to keep liam. and sure, liam hated him after, but theo had liam's girlfriend on his side and was well used to playing the long con. he could wait.

Chapter 19

“I didn’t kill her, you know?” Theo says lowly.

Liam froze, pin working its way through naked flesh, his head slowly lifted. He searched Theo’s bloodshot eyes, wondering if he was actually talking to him or to whatever was in his head again.

“Er, what?”

“My sister.” Theo’s throat bobbed as he swallowed dryly. His eyebrows furrowed tightly as he looked away, pained. “I didn’t kill her.”

Liam didn’t know why he was telling him this, least of all now. “Theo, you don’t… You shouldn’t talk, save your energy.”

His voice was soft and faraway like in a distant memory. “They told me they would get me away from them. Get us away from them.”

“Get you away from who?”

“You’ve been shouting ‘rainbow’ for ages,” the masked guy pointed out, a playful tone in his voice. He had just removed the cloth from Liam’s face. “Safe word?”

“What?” he asked, his eyes still squinting as they adjusted to the light in the room after god knows how long with his vision obstructed, all dazed and confused.

“Your safe word,” the guy said the words slowly, as if Liam were a child with pronunciation difficulties at school. “Rainbow? Nice.”

Liam must have been bursting into flames, such was his rage, and, yes, there was a part of him that drew his irritation from deep within, making his body burn like a cigarette. This was the part of himself he wanted to focus on; his night had turned into a nightmare and his life was in danger, but beyond his anger lay something much greater: shame.

His body was burning, bathed in fear and shame. This wasn’t supposed to be the priority, but the mocking tone in the guy’s voice…

Okay, fine, his safe word was RAINBOW, and it was silly and embarrassing, but Liam wasn’t expecting to actually be kidnapped, or that he would have a panic attack when he realized he was in trouble and his safe word hadn’t answered his prayers.

That wasn’t what he had asked for when he said he wanted to be surprised.

There isn't much one can do when they wake up bound in the sewers with a throbbing pain in their neck and only enough energy to open their eyes. Or, at least, there isn't much Liam can do. Not when Theo continues feeding off him, keeping him half way sedated week after week.

Maybe it is Stockholm Syndrome setting in, maybe it is the fact that Theo brings him his favorite foods and drinks and plays his favorite songs from time to time, maybe it is because of how Theo sometimes kisses the bite wounds he leaves after drinking his fill.

Whatever it is, Liam is beginning to like it down here. With Theo. He misses his friends and his parents, he says so all the time, but the vampire reminds him that this place is special. Their own little world.

It had been on his mind before he passed out, why Theo took so much this time around, why he mumbled against his skin about needing more strength tonight.

He didn't get an answer until Theo came walking in well past midnight. There is no clock or windows here but he can smell the faint scent of night time dew on his vampire. The smell is barely there though, covered mostly by the pungent aroma of blood Theo is still covered in.

Liam gazes up at him as his moves closer, a confused frown making him look like a puppy seeking answers from its master. Theo crouches in front of him, a bloody hand taking a gentle hold of his chin.

"You don't have to worry about your friends and family anymore." He whispers. Liam smiles.

Theo took care of them for him.
