Headcanon Corner: Jace Beleren
I don’t think it’s any secret that I adore Jace, so I should talk about him a little! More specifically my headcanons for him. They’re pretty extensive and kind of mutated into a little canon of their own, which usually shows up in some shape or form in my fanworks, most notably Seal of the Guildpact. This post is just me rambling about that personal canon, so feel free to disregard, I just really wanted to talk about it! It’s more of a character interpretation than a headcanon at this point, but the latter is the more used term. This might be a little long, also.
#1, The most fleshed out and expansive one: Jace Beleren as a trans man. (note: there’s gong to be some discussion of the physicality of his body and people saying insensitive things but nothing too in depth, just a heads up)
I think I only have one work where this isn’t true, which is just a oneshot smut thing. As shown above, I typically depict him with a long scar running across his chest; this is the result of a deliberately-botched chest surgery. He blackmailed a Simic surgeon during his Consortium days, back when the Guilds were starting to slowly recoup, to do it for him, and as payback, they made sure it would leave a nasty scar. It’s functional but ugly, and the scar aches fairly often, necessitating use of tight upper-body clothing when it gets bad.
It’s already canon he uses illusions to make himself appear taller, more square-jawed and broad-shouldered, so that’s easy to run with for the sake of this interpretation. Using mind-magic on people who discover his secret somehow is also on the table, a very useful thing indeed.
His friends - the Gatewatch - are all aware.
Chandra, ruled by the fiery passion of red mana and a love for freedom and self-expression, is the staunchest defender of his identity, taking up the mantle of his big sister and threatening any who would hurt him.
Gideon is very understanding, willing to lend a hand to help the young man get more comfortable with his body and helping him fit in.
Liliana was the first to know, due to their previous relationship, and while she respects his identity, she doesn’t take it terribly seriously, often making what she thinks are lighthearted jokes or jabs. She means well, but might need to be taught.
Nissa accepts and respects, but doesn’t fully understand the details of it. She knows that Jace is Jace, though, and she keeps his secret for him.
When paired up with Ral, the Izzet is mostly curious about it, wanting to learn the details and particulars of the Guildpact’s condition. He’s also prone to making little jokes, but they feel a bit less mean-spirited than Liliana’s most of the time, since he’ll actually shut his big mouth if Jace tells him to.
(On that note, I’ve also come up with some extensive details about how the Guilds of Ravnica treat/talk about the state of being transgender, since I love worldbuilding. I might write up a post about that sometime.)
#2, Jace is autistic.
(I don’t have a fancy picture for this one so have Chandra hugging Jace)
This is closer to a traditional headcanon, since most of the evidence for it appears in the canon proper. He’d probably get along with Narset, I bet.
Some examples:
In Jace, Alone, his chosen method of calming himself was counting waves, and he did a pretty good job of it too.
He mentions at one point having had to train himself to make eye contact with people when talking to them.
He exhibits sound and sensation sensitivity in numerous things he appears in, most notably his reaction in Agents of Artifice to an object Tezzeret had that made an unpleasant noise (wanting to reach in his head and claw his eardrums until they stopped itching from the noise, a sentiment I am very familiar with.), and well as disliking being breathed on, for examples.
He has a tendency to hyperfocus to the exclusion of all else, exemplified in the Maze and other places.
I’m sure there are more if I take the time to really comb for them, but these are the first I could come up with off the top of my head.
I was going to make an entry about Jace being bisexual but really it’d just be me going “he totally is though that’s actually canon so you know” so I didn’t bother. I’m sure there’s more that I didn’t talk about, but this is enough words already, so enjoy!

“Please, can you call me Jace? For Jonathan Christopher?” He hated that it came out like a question, but he couldn’t take it back, so he went back to staring at the adults in front of him.
The couple exchanged a long glance, then Robert leaned forward until he was at eye-level with Jace and asked gently, “Is that what your father called you?”
Teen, canon-divergence AU. My attempt to write a trans Jace fic, which somehow ended up being an incredibly sappy teen!Jalec story.
now that I think of it, I think Jace being a trans man would explain a lot about his style. like maybe in his desperation to pass, he just stuck with the first outfit that worked

The sentinel’s footsteps echoed across the marble chamber, paused, and then began again, a steady rhythm. Ten taps in one direction; pause; ten taps in the other; pause. The faint rustle of cloth as the arrester adjusted her cerulean tabard. In the corner of the hallway furthest from the guarded door, a shadow seemed to flicker slightly. The arrester did not appear to notice, continuing her precise route. From beneath the door, a momentary glint of blue light appeared, then faded. A raised voice sounded, just as quickly shushed. The arrester paused, speculatively, and glanced up. The shadow in the corner stilled.
i have idea for jimon fanfic with trans!jace what do yall think about it ?
