some sonar fuckery today methinks !! particularly the extent of his bat genetics hehehe i think theres soo much fun to be had there

bat “fingers” are actually the little columns on their wings that act as supports so he probably has like unusually long fingers. imagine him having to feel them cracking and lengthening as his body first starts changing oucghhh that must have hurt so bad ☹️☹️ probably part of the reason why hes got such a heavy drug dependency esp if he can still feel the sensation of his bones splitting and moving when he transforms from humanesque to bat.

i think we should give him a tail too!!! bat tails r super skinny so he probs tucks it into his pants or smth. bats use them when moving backwards / in a tight space so i can see him preferring to keep it tucked so no one shuts a door on it lol. also i love the idea of him being able to tell which team member is nearby by tapping their arm or hand w his tail since bats use their tails to differentiate surfaces :]

imo his nose resembles a vampire bat which means we can take some fun bits from vampire bat traits/habits :D

for example, they can walk/run on their hind legs, which could translate to sonars mega-bat form (god that would be terrifying)

vamp bats also do mainly drink blood, and they have been known to share with their fellow bats!!! imagine sonar trying to offer robert a mouthful of fresh blood bc hes so skinny, and clearly he isnt getting fed enough which sonar absolutely can’t let happen!! they do this “sharing” by straight up throwing up in their friends’ mouthes which just makes it even more funny imo

unrelated but they also pee like 2 minutes after eating which is hillarious. imagine the team having to wait for him to go use the bathroom every time they finish dinner tgt bc he literally cannot hold it 😭😭

more eating stuff IM SORRY ITS SO COOL vampire bats don’t actually suck the blood from their prey like vampires do!! instead they bite open the skin and lap up the blood like a cat 🥹🥹 they have chemicals in their saliva to prevent clotting too so it helps keep the blood flowing until they finish their meal!!

vampire bats use infrared radiation to locate high-blood volume areas on their prey!! this is super cool and i could totally see sonar being used to check for internal bleeding post-missions since he can tell when/if irregular amounts of blood are in any particular area where it shouldn’t happen

they also have super good hearing and can differentiate between people’s breathing patterns. sonar always knows which team member is nearby bc he knows their breathing, and maybe even being able to tell when they’re stressed over comms, depending on how fast/heavy their breaths are <33

vampire bats are on the weaker end of the bat eyesight spectrum, making them slightly worse than the average human!! poor sonar having to wear glasses when he does paperwork/tries to check his stocks and having the team make fun of him 😭😭

theres also evidence supporting the idea that they’re colorblind, which would be super funny if u imagine that the reason mal portals everywhere is bc sonar legally can’t fucking drive and mal doesnt have her license either for whatever reason

sonar, like all bats, has super great hearing though!!! him and galen bonding over the horrors of hearing various employees fucking in the closet while everyone else tries to pretend they definitely Arent Guilty of doing just that

unlike humans, who develop conditioned taste-aversion, vampire bats dont learn from eating bad food!! sonar will cheerfully try to eat some fuckass awful foods no matter how disgusted the z team look, and hes basically the unofficial garbage disposal for the team

now we veer into my personal trans sonar headcannon and what that means :]

female vampire bats are bigger than males, which is why his bat form is so big!!

all bats produce milk to feed their young, but their nipples are under their armpit area, which could mean sonar never felt the need for top surgery and his chest is just. flat like a ken doll lmao

sonar, being a vampire bat, could also have whats called “pubic nipples” which are near their hips, and baby bats will hold onto while their mothers fly!!

female vampire bats have a super chill hierarchy compared to other animals, and will form really close friendships with each other, sharing food and foraging together!! i think this just makes his relationship w the z team even stronger bc he kind of sees them as his colony of sorts :]

they’ll also share responsibility for raising babies if the mother dies, so sonar would probably have some deep-seated maternal instincts that pop out from time to time, like if someone brings a kid to work and needs a babysitter!! bats have special noises for comforting their babies, and sonar is probably used semi-frequently as a sound machine for distressed kids :(
