The distinctly feminine urge to unhinge your jaw like a snake and scarf down your whole meal in a single bite
I just reblogged a lovely post about remembering to allow yourself an adjustment period to wearing skirts/dresses and I thought I would give a few tips and reminders to people who may be new to femme fashion, for whatever reason.
- If you’re wearing a “short” skirt or dress (hem above the knee) and it’s loose, be aware that when you sit down or bend over your ass will be uncovered. Be ready to kneel to pick things up rather than bend, and for your thighs to stick like hell to whatever surface you just sat on. This is less of a problem with tighter skirts, but still be aware. (You can wear bike shorts under your skirt to avoid this problem.)
- Dresses and skirts with pockets are a blessing but beware! You must have a solid waist on your skirt or the weight of the pockets will pull it down. Loose skirts/dresses are better to put things in as well because it can hide the shape of the item.
- Be aware that if you’re wearing a shorter skirt, if you swing one leg out of a car you will flash everyone in front of you. This applies to crouching too. Keep your knees together to avoid this. Cross your ankles when sitting instead of your legs to avoid the infamous “Basic Instinct” style reveal.
- Long skirts do usually need special attention on stairs; going down you should grab the back to keep the hem from dragging and going up you should pull up the front to keep from tripping on it. Yes this makes you feel dainty af, I recommend it.
- The thing to remember when walking in heels, of any height, is to walk heel-toe-heel-toe. It may not make sense until you put them on, but remember heel-toe-heel-toe and your ankles will thank you.
- Block heels, especially with ankle support like low boots, are much easier on your feet and are something you could wear all day without too much pain.
- Yes heels make an awesome clicking sound walking down tile hallways and you will feel like a boss ass bitch. Work it.
- If you are planning on wearing makeup all day you should have lipstick and foundation power with you to refresh your lips and your nose when needed. Your lips get the most use, especially during a meal (use a straw whenever possible), and “powdering your nose” isn’t just a euphemism for using the bathroom, your nose “sweats” oil quite a lot and will need touching up.
- When shaving your legs you go *against* the grain, so shave up, not down. Moisturize with lotion after you shave, your skin will need it. (Plus you get to rub your hands all over your gloriously smooth skin so like. Win-win.)
