I feel I am the minority in TF fandom who like Mo and Robby Malto way better than Sari Sumdac from TFA and the three kids from TFP.
This show made me care about the human children and helped understand why human characters are actually important to the Transformers franchise.
I'm not saying Jack, Miko amd Raf are bad human characters or anything, but when I was watching Transformers Prime, I didn't care about them much and prefer episodes where they focused more on other Transformers than them.
With Sari, I liked her in first two seasons or basically before she got the upgrade. After that, she's barely a character that was part of the main Autobot group for some reasons. She became the Deus ex machina to the main 4.
Mo and Robby, on the other hands, are both the main focuses of the show and also the supportive roles for the Terrans. They both went through different character arcs, they blended well with the Terrans and other Transformers. And they are still important without the Cybersleeves, hence the final episode of season 4. Plus, they are kid heroes that still act like kids of their ages, they can be both mature and immature at the same time and it didn't feel force at all. I saw people compared Mo and Robby to kid characters from Japanese Transformers shows just to bash them (Still remembered that one TF confession claimed how Earthspark would be betrer if they did what the Japanese Transformers shows and ditched Mo Malto from the show). Like offense to Japanese TF show (I recently watched Transformers Masterforce and while I liked the show for how unhinged and silly the show was, I'm not a big fans of the kid characters), I don't think those kid characters are better than Mo and Robby Malto, and I can say the same things to Sari and the three kids from TFP.
You won't say it but I'll say it: I think Jack was the worst. I say Jack is everything that can be wrong with human characters in Transformers and I blame him specifically for the fact I used to be one of those annoying fans who didn't want TF to be set on Earth and have humans in it. He's incredibly bland including in his character design, I'm not sure he changed or grew at all, he got to do all this important stuff like being on Cybertron and it felt like he didn't earn any of it, Arcee's spotlight was constantly hogged by this guy... UGH, I hate him so much. When I think about Jack I remember that joke about Arcee being his "first" and it makes me sick. I found him extremely annoying and boring simultaneously and I'm surprised that's not a common opinion. Airachnid should've killed him!
Sari I feel was all over the place, I had a similar experience where I felt like there was this weird situation where it's like she was barely allowed to fight anymore post-upgrade and she also lost most of her fun character traits and felt like a shell of her former self, but also was being used as this tool who spouted exposition and was there to do things like cure Arcee... I don't know, I think it was sad. It also felt to me like post-upgrade the writers wanted to portray her as a teen (even though she was only nine), but they didn't know how to write teen girls in a realistic way? On top of this, the mystery built up about her origins never received an engaging answer and I don't personally believe the writers when they claim they knew where that plot would've gone (I also can't believe they planned to drag that out for two more seasons).
I have to say I don't know what someone saying Earthspark should've gotten rid of Mo "like the Japanese shows" would mean. The Japanese continuities always had human kids who were main characters? I don't know of any kids being deleted from them? Like in Masterforce which you mention the kids were relevant throughout. For me I LOVED Minerva and appreciated that she actually changed and was a voice of reason (low bar but I was really excited to see a prominent girl transformer), but I found Shūta and Cab kinda annoying (sorry). I liked all the Decepticon kids... I think Clouder was the best written one personally. Hydra and Buster wanting to remove their human sides and become fully robotic to the horror of their adoptive parents was such a cool idea, and I'm surprised that isn't a plot idea that's used often in TF. However, despite everything, I agree, I don't think the kids in this show were ever written as well as the ones in Earthspark. I don't say this to diss the show, I like Masterforce, but I also just don't feel like the show's (or really any TF show's) themes were as meaningful or explored as thoroughly as Earthspark's.
Most importantly I feel like I can't talk about this and how human kids were written without mentioning race, right...? Mo and Robby are Blasian, they're Black and Filipino kids. I'd hope that anyone comparing different characters can look at like, Cab, who I think was SUPPOSED to be from the Philippines and see that the Earthspark kids are actual representation in that they really represent something from the real human experience and like, Cab definitely doesn't. Sari is Indian, but like... her dad is voiced by a white voice actor doing this stereotypical accent and she's also voiced by a white voice actor... their heritage I don't think was ever tied into the story... "Sari" is not a real name, it's the article of clothing... not to mention her eyes get turned permanently cyan post-upgrade. I would say that for all the reasons you mentioned and more, Mo and Robby and their parents objectively are THE best-written human characters in Transformers so far. And when that has gone so unrecognized and people even wish they were just gone (I've seen people say this about all of them before) I think that doesn't just show a lack of comprehension of what the story was about and of how writing works, but is also racist!
Minerva [Transformers Masterforce] x Miko Nakadai [Transformers Prime] x Sari Sumdac [Transformers Animated]
There are two types of favorite characters in the Transformers fandom, and most people have one of each.
1: an at least semi-popular character, has had some sort of media in the past decade and has a decent amount of fans
2: the blorbo who has one line and hasn't seen the light of day since 1988, you're pretty sure you're their only fan. Not even AO3 has fics of them
