This is my first entry.

Life feels like constantly scratching at a small and banal surface. People come and go, and their lifes are transient. Perhaps I view life from a distant perspective; it is like a timeless waking dream that will one day end in an eternal sleep.

I have thought too deeply about the nature of things, to the point where I must question everything in my life. With this deeper insight, one eventually arrives at a new and different place—shifting one’s perspective and suddenly seeing things with profound clarity. -And whoever sees clearly, beholds the black abyss toward which we are all walking...

a hair cut and temporariness

watching locks upon locks of jet black hair fall to the ground in the most satisfying yet horrifying snips instilled a two-step chain of thoughts in my head:

“wow i should get a picture of that dustpan full of hair”, followed by “nah i’ll witness this again when i cut my hair months later”

underlying these thoughts is the concept of permanence, of the fleeting, of the desire to capture and immortalise all the fleeting little moments in life

i guess this sort of harks to the whole iffiness of the 21st century - how we like to keep a record of everything and how anxious we are as a result; and more deeply how technology has enabled us to keep an easy record of anything

in the midst of all this, do you feel a sense of release and indulgence when you stop capturing the everyday or the littlest things and instead say to yourself: “ah, the time will come again”?

i think we need to be mindful of what we immortalise. where is the needed contrast and contradictions in life if everything is immortalised?

what shall remain mortal and temporary shall remain of its time and space

the letting go of the small moments instead turns into a luxury and combats an unnecessary anxiety. knowing that time passes and will repeat itself is a sense of assurance that is much needed

to my fallen locks of hair now in the trash can, i will see you after many moons - that is a luxury i can afford because i know my hair will grow; to my new fluffy messy hair cut, i will see the many faces of you in the many reflections i catch

the future is not made of relentless worrying and planning, but rather of every moment in the present that you live.

one shall not concern themselves with the future when everything is already set in stone; after a plan is made and choices are decided, one shall accept things naturally as they come. to go against your own fate, that is a capital offense.

one shall not worry in such an excessive manner that it will take away the enjoyment of life; one shall rejoice in the pleasure of living whenever possible, including during moments of rest. to go against the happiness life has bestowed upon you, that is a capital offense.

one shall live humbly; one shall always express gratitude for the life they lead and the people that have supported them. to overlook the kindness that has been offered to them throughout their life, that is a capital offense.

one shall trust others; the human heart is, before anything else, filled with the need to help others, for that is what has ensured the survival of our species. to not trust the acts of charity and words of comfort that others have bestowed upon you, that is a capital offense.

I want to be here with everyone, and I want to be here with the things I like.

I will be here with everyone, and I will be here with the things I like.

I will live each day as one, and I will take my time with everything that is done, and I will live here as much as possible.

in here it's good, it's kind and it's nice to me. it's comfortable and it won't leave me alone.

the reason I feel so anxious when looking at the future, when thinking about the future, is because I am in the future, and others are not.

the reason I feel so sad when looking at the past, when thinking about the past, is because I am in the past, and others are not.

don't talk to me about the future and the past, even if it's to reminisce good moments or think of good days to come

I want to be in here with you as much as possible

Chasing the wrong sound for Transient Harbour

Wanted a deep, resonant ship horn for the new “Transient Harbour” piece. Checked the cruise schedule, set up early with the recorder… only for this giant to glide away in total silence. Six thousand souls just left the harbour as quiet as a mouse. Sometimes the unplanned quiet becomes the truer sound. These transient harbours are full of almost-moments: brief encounters and departures that linger longer than the ships themselves. Ever felt a connection at a port (or any crossing place) that was over before it really began? Or a silence that said more than any horn? Drop the city and your story, I read every reply.
