I had a few questions! A) Common insults in the Angaran language? What the heck are they? B) There's a specific phrase I wanted to try and translate but my peon brain is like ??? "Make Death proud to take us."
“I’ve definitely been called a rinhe tiyrrna vesaan (crazy little shit) before, but they didn’t mean it too harshly... I think,” Jaal rumbles. “Kids say a lot of things.”
Great question anon. I believe that teroshe, vehshaanan and vesegara are the only insults we hear in the game. Here are a few insults, curses and related words.
vehshaanan - idiom - someone pleased with their own shit.
vesaan - n, adj - shit, shitty person, jerk, asshole. strong derogatory term.
vesagara - n, adj - uprooted people, or exiles, a derogatory term used by the Roekaar for individuals from the Milky Way.
kevell - n, adj - weak, not growing or thriving; weakling. Also used as a derogatory term.
skkut - idiom - a general expletive, used in contexts similar to fuck and shit
skkutja nera - idiom - exclamation, roughly “fucking stars!”
skeelu - n, adj - disgusting, gross, unappealing
thall - n, an - stiff, unyielding, unbending; also used as a derogatory term
teroshe - n, adj - a term meaning roughly cruel joke
tiyrrna - n, adj - crazy, insane, nutty
tove - n - warning, a call to be wary, watch out, look out.
an'do - idiom - "hide!" command or phrase commonly used by both angaran fighters and children
krits - n, adj, adv - diarrhea, the shits; a disease symptom
lom ashaan - idiom - chaotic fear, that makes you behave stupidly or recklessly; panic
I’ve also translated these phrases that might be of interest.
Noddra tev daals… - Sun and skies (for god’s sake, or oh my gosh - is the sentiment)
Pivos nera! -- Black star!
For your phrase “Make death proud to take us,” the sentiment I hear seems like a rather Viking “let’s make this a good fight” or “let’s make our ancestor’s proud” vibe. Given that the angara believe in reincarnation I think that this definitely works for groups within their culture! I don’t think that personifying death would be as common though, but as an informal phrase it works.
“Make death proud to take us!” --- “See’do Draki ille dossara kohr jogara!” [make+command death show pride to take us]
“Make the ancestors/elders proud that we join them!” --- “See’do shaegara ille dossara hanti jogara droklaa!” [make+command ancestors show pride because we join]
