What are the Tree Ladies insecure about?

For Sequoia, it is definitely how other people view her. She is in a tough position with Juniper because her girlfriend is also an amazing artist, and it is easier for Sequoia to see how great Juniper is than to see herself that way. This means she feels like other people look at them and think that Juniper is way out of her league. This is very relevant in the main plot.

Juniper’s insecurities are a little harder for me to put into words. She holds herself to extremely high standards as well, but in a way that is less dependent on observers. Like, Sequoia would be okay singing a bad note alone in a practice room, but Juniper kind of chalks up her missteps without regard to where they happen. And if she doesn’t meet the bar, that is Bad. Come to think of it, this probably comes from growing up in a household with so many parents. She was observed a lot of the time, so she got used to operating like every moment someone is paying attention (and maybe judging) and she took on that parental voice for herself once she left home.

on a whim I’ve decided to have Sequoia do a standup+musical comedy routine that her gf refers to as “the one about the ghost feminists”
