The bottom half of the graft decided to show itself again and the petals aren’t burnt-looking this year. Hopefully the intended half of the graft with the big fuchsia flowers will show up this year as well.

27/4/17 Wisteria and tree peonies at Inner Temple Garden - beautiful on a grey day in London. And wonderful handkerchief tree starting to bloom. I'd never noticed it before. And I have container garden envy! What an amazing display!

A week and a half after my second tree peony kicked out flowers, the herbaceous peony it was originally grafted to decided to put on a show as well. So, two types of flowers from one plant this year. Weird but neat.

Also, the tree peony part is called a scion during the grafting dealio.

My second tree peony is an enigma. The first couple of years, I got massive fuchsia blooms, then small two-toned flowers the next. Now each year, I never know whether the top or bottom of the splice/graft will be putting on the show.

Tonight, after work on a drizzly day…

The last heat wave burned up the blooms on one of my tree peonies, but my second one is getting active! The twist is the flowers are coming from the bottom of the splice again, but there’s a chance the big fuchsia ones from the top will eventually show up too!
