My thoughts on the tumblr dumpster fire these days:
I don’t want to see tumblr go. And while we have no confirmation that it will, seeing all the posts about it makes me anxious nonetheless. Tumblr is how I’ve made the majority of the friends I talk to in my adult life. Tumblr is where I can unabashedly love fictional worlds, and use those worlds to write and create and share what I make with people who love it as much as I do. Tumblr is where I have enough confidence to talk honestly about things I feel and think about while maintaining just enough anonymity to not be too nervous about the idea of someone judging me or disliking me.
Without tumblr, I don’t have anyone to talk to about Star Trek. My mom watches it with me to laugh and have a good time, but she never wants to sit and discuss characters, their pasts and histories, how they tick and why the do the things they do. My friends mock me or groan dramatically if I so much as bring it up. When I say that I’m writing, they say, “But does it really count? It’s... Star Trek fanfiction. It’s not like you’re writing a novel.”
Tumblr has been a saving grace for my mental health, for learning about myself and the world we live in, about current events when necessary and about the struggles we face day to day as a society. It has also been an escape when I need it, a way to connect with others over silly fun from tv shows, books, art, music, and our journey to find ourselves... and I would be absolutely devastated to see it go.
It has it’s flaws, to be sure, and the problems being addressed should have been taken care of when they were first reported years ago. But I don’t want to see the majority of the site punished for the staff’s shortcomings.
I really, really hope it doesn’t come to that.
I’d miss you all too much.
happy new year. may 2023 bring you love, action, pride, and fruitful conclusions. and Star Trek.
It is my opinion that the next Star Trek movie should really utilize the alpine tundra as an alien planet set - all the multicolored rocks make it very surreal.
I sort of photographed the Pleiades Cluster tonight.
I know William Shatner is such an asshole but I will absolutely sob my eyes out for days when he dies because I have spent so many hours of my formative years in his metaphorical company.
So I panicked and set up a twitter because any sort of tumblr rumors make me indescribably nervous so... anyway just in case, my twitter is BGOuterSpace. My AO3 is beautygraceouterspace. That’s about all I’ve got.
I swear every other day I am looking at star trek memes on instagram and some anti republican post comes up and I go "this is accurate though a bit tame and also why is it classified as trek" and it's because it was posted by Jeri Ryan. And well what can you do, my sixteen year old self developed a crush on her and I never recovered.
