re-listening to TMA again and you know what I’m having thoughts about vampires. More specifically, I am having thoughts about the role of vampires in this whole wheel of fear thing the entities have going on.
See the thing is, I don’t know how much fear the vampires themselves generate. The people they hunt are either ignorant to the danger they’re in, or under hypnosis not to notice...not a lot of fear going on there. Sure, there is the fear when the vampire actually attacks, but from the description that seems to be over relatively quickly. It might generate a short, intense burst of terror, but most of the fears tend to go for a slightly slower burn. They may still kill you, but they draw it out.
And then I got thinking about when exactly the vampires are brought up in the show and who encounters them. You have Trevor the Vampire hunter, Daisy plus the other police officers, and (very briefly) Gerry/Jon.
So, my theory is that the purpose of vampires isn’t to generate fear in and of themselves (not every moment you spend making an omelette is eating the omelette) it’s to create avatars of the hunt.
I thinks its most apparent with Trevor, because he’s the one we get a longer statement from. But he starts out exclusively hunting vampires, then over time branches out to other monsters and then to humans. Daisy is obviously also a hunter, but we know through her that other sectioned officers also encounter vampires (And I think it’s safe to assume that a disproportionate number of cops are of the hunt seeing as of the three we meet, three are). Gerry is a little bit of everything, but he’s in the grasp of hunters when we meet him and he’s definitely got a bit of the hunt about him from his years hunting Leitners.
So yeah, I think the purpose of vampires is to be hunted, and so feed the hunt by creating more hunters.
More art of them!!! Just some guy and his feral-adopted creature of a daughter..
