Toothpaste and Hand Wash Are Causing Antibiotic Resistance
If you could stop using antibacterial, well everything, that would be awesome. Thanks! (No, really, check the article for more specific details. We are begging, for everyone's sake) #Health #Disease #Antibiotics
(Tasnim) – A common ingredient in toothpaste and hand wash could be contributing to antibiotic resistance, according to University of Queensland research.
A study led by Dr Jianhua Guo from UQ’s Advanced Water Management Centre focused on triclosan, a compound used in more than 2000 personal care products.
Dr Guo said while it was well-known the overuse and misuse of antibiotics could create…

We now know that antibacterial soaps do not protect from preventable illness better than regular soap, but beyond that, some of these products are even shown to have deleterious long-term effects.

DETERMINATION OF MEDIAN LETHAL CONCENTRATION AND BEHAVIOURAL EFFECTS OF TRICLOSAN IN Heteropneustes fossilis | UTTAR PRADESH JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY
Triclosan is an antibacterial ingredient that can be found in medical, household, and personal care products. Triclosan, a chlorinated phenolic chemical, ensures its presence in soil, surface water, drinking water, and other environments due to its extensive use and high persistence potential. Acute toxicity studies were performed on the fish Heteropneustes fossilis to determine the LC50 value of triclosan (5-chloro–2-(2,4dichlorophenoxy) phenol) over the periods of 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours, as well as to identify behavioural changes. Using Finney's probit analysis The LC50 values were discovered after analysis, and they were 9.54, 8.2, 7.59, and 7.14 mg/L for 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours, respectively. The fishes displayed erratic movement, increased surfacing activity, haemorrhagic eyes, reddish fins, decreased operculum motions, body tremors, increased mucous deposition all over the body, and a loss of equilibrium. These toxicity test findings revealed that triclosan is harmful to Heteropneustes fossilis.

A recent study found that an antibacterial agent present in toothpastes is bad for your bones.
Brushing and flossing your teeth regularly are essential in maintaining good oral health. However, it is also good to check if the toothpaste you are using contains harmful chemicals that can negatively affect other parts of your body -- in this case, your bones.
That is exactly what is raised in a recent study, which showed that triclosan, an antibacterial agent added to toothpaste that reduces gum infections and improve oral health, can pose more problems to your bones than it does benefiting your teeth.

Quite frankly you should not be using any produce with triclosan. I doubt that it reduces gum infections because it doesn’t kill the bacteria when used in soap. Most of it just washes down the drain where it will persist in nature helping to create resistant bacteria. Some of it will transform into a dioxin through contact with light and chlorine. Antibacterial soaps are no more effective than normal soap. It’s also an endocrine disruptor.
