Ah... Imagine sleeping next to one of them ⭐💤
P.S. I'm going to write the second part about Nicholas and Livio 🌚
Vash the Stampede
Vash loves falling asleep while cuddling with you - he sticks to you like a leech. If you turn him down, he'll sulk all evening, but then he'll sneak into bed with you anyway. He won't let you fall asleep alone.
Vash loves being the little spoon. He falls asleep quickly on your chest. He gently hugs you like his a favorite teddy bear, pressing close to you and wrapping his arms and legs around you? but without making you feel confined. However? this idyll doesn't last long...
Vash sleeps like a restless little devil. He's constantly tossing and turning, rolling from one side to the other, twitching, and taking up most of the bed. Forget about getting a good night's sleep. And he mumbles in his sleep with souch a blissful look on his face - so silly and sweet that it's impossile to stay mad at him. Who knows, maybe he's dreaming about delicious donuts or something like that?
But sometimes... Sometimes his face takes on an anguished, almost pained expression. His eyebrows are drawn together, his temples glisten with sweat, he gasps for air through his mouth, and tosses and turns on the pillow, yet he doesn’t wake up. He’s having nightmares. Please hug him, stroke his spiky hair, whisper tender words, and hold him close to your chest again. Your touch will help him calm down and drift back into a carefree sleep.
Vash usually wakes up early in the morning - after all, his workouts won't wait - but if he's sleeping with you, he'll hapilly stay in bed for couple more hours. Or maybe even all day - a day off wouldn't hurt.
Millions Knives
Sleep with you? Sleep with anyone? You risk losing your head for even thinking that!
No! No! And NO again!
He won't stoop that low. He wouldn't allow himself to.
Under no circumstances would Knives sneak into your bedroom at night like an invisible shadow, absolutely certain that you’re asleep, tiptoeing across the floor so that a random creak wouldn’t wake you up and give away his presence. Just as quietly, he won’t lower himself onto the sheets behind you, still keeping his distance, avoiding any physical contact. He won't. He won't fall asleep. Someone like him doesn't need to...
Wait. Or maybe...
To this own disappointment, balancibg on the edge between reality and something vaguely resembling a dream, Knives unconsciously leans forward you. The distance dangerously shrinks to barely perceptible.
No, he still isn't touching you. Maybe only the tip of his nose is almost touching the hair at the back of your head. Almost. Maybe it only seems that way. that doesn't count, right?
Knives is barely breathing. He's so sensitive and alert, even in this sleepy haze. Oh God. Don't you dare wake up. Not now. Just a little longer. Just a tiny bit longer.
He’ll slip out of the bedroom before the first rays of sunlight. He’ll vanish just as quietly as he appeared. Or maybe he was never here at all, and you just dreamed it all up, silly?

[Sequel] "No More Denial"
Main Masterlist
Coldness shivered up his spine, the tremouring causing the tiniest shuffle from her to get closer despite being already as close as could be.
The sky was dark, twinkling in a star-like light, but he wasn’t looking up, no. Vash was looking at Y/N, the restful look on her face bringing him peace. His bright blue eyes took in every detail of her, from the wisps of hair to her soft lips, that parted with a light exhale of air.
It was the middle of the night, most definitely, and everyone was asleep but Vash couldn’t find it in him to do so. His mind was occupied, focused on Y/N who laid on her back, head tucked against Vash’s chest with his flesh arm wrapped under her to keep her where she was.
Ever since Y/N confessed that she might be pregnant, he thought of nothing else. They weren’t completely sure due to their physiological differences, but Vash couldn’t deny the flutter in his chest at the mere idea of it. At first, he was scared because if plants and humans could have children, then what would that do to a human body? Vash and his brother did start out as babies themselves, but they grew exceptionally faster than any human so if that were the case would Y/N survive a pregnancy like that.
However, in the couple of days since he found out, the nervousness faded to give way to excitement.
He didn’t say it out loud, but it was in the way he looked at Y/N; eyes watching intently at every little thing. Not that he didn’t do those things already since he had never been in love before, it was simply different. He watched how Y/N would tuck her hair behind her ear when it had fallen in her face, or how she’d laugh, heartfelt and contagious, or how she’d speak so softly to him when whispering those three words he grew accustomed to. In all those actions, little behaviors, his mind wondered if his child would have quirks like that.
Feeling her shift again, Vash followed Y/N as she subconsciously readjusted herself into a more comfortable position, without leaving his chest.
He smiled, tightening his hold a bit, before relaxing his body. Eyes trailed down from Y/N’s undisturbed features to her stomach; looking the same, with no bump to show, though Vash felt himself tear up anyway. He carefully raised his prosthetic hand to lay his palm fully over the expanse of her tummy.
“I hope you’re there, little one.” The blonde barely whispered, gaze flitting up to Y/N to now see the slightest of smiles at the corner of her lips. Whether it was conscious or her body’s familiarity with his touch, a deep warmth washed over his body, and pooled in his chest.
He really wanted to be a father.
Ship 3 was in sight even from a handful of miles away.
When Vash told Wolfwood, Meryl and Roberto that they needed to visit Ludia and the others at Ship 3, they were confused because, turns out, they had not caught a word that Y/N had spoken to Knives when he confronted her.
So Vash and Y/N explained.
“You’re pregnant?!” Both Wolfwood and Meryl sputtered out in shock, while Roberto stared wide eyed.
He sighed shortly after, “I’m not drunk enough for this.”
“Well to preface, we’re not exactly sure.” Vash anxiously explained, rubbing the back of his neck.
Y/N, who sat at the floor of the truck, spoke up. “I have all the symptoms though; fatigue, nausea, headaches, and I haven’t had my monthly…ya know.”
“Ah, say no more.” Meryl blurted out, understanding what she meant.
“But Ludia, can tell us more. She’ll be able to see if Y/N is actually pregnant or not. And she’ll be able to treat Y/N’s leg better than I can out here.” Vash added, gesturing to the entire desert surrounding them.
There was a pause between them, each person giving themselves a moment to breathe as they thought about the situation.
“Has this ever happened before? Between a plant and a human?” Meryl questioned, curiosity coating her tone with a hint of worry.
Y/N and Vash shared a glance then Vash answered solemnly, regretting that he didn’t have all the answers. “As far as I know, no. This has never happened before.”
“Then let’s get going. Can’t have a pregnant lady sitting out in the hot sun with a bloody leg.” Wolfwood chirped in, smirking with a cigarette in his mouth.
The group gave a small laugh, breaking the tension before they hit the road.
That was, now, three days ago, and they had finally arrived.
Vash walked to the front, being the first one to walk up to the enormous ship with Y/N cradled in his arms.
“Vash, you don’t have to carry me. I can walk.” Y/N protested, though made no attempt to stop him.
He grinned down at her with that award winning smile, “But this way, you won’t hurt your leg anymore and make it worse. Besides, I never heard any complaints about being held.”
Y/N bit her bottom lip, stuffing her face into his chest, feeling her face beam with embarrassment. Vash simply laughed.
“Get a room you two.” Meryl grumbled, trailing behind them.
“I’m pretty sure that’s exactly how we ended up in this situation.” Wolfwood retorted, puffing out a plume of smoke.
Meryl cringed at the comment, “Ew, shut up.”
Roberto reached into his jacket to pull out his flask then took a drink.
Once they stepped inside, the five of them were first met with Ludia, who smiled the moment she saw the blonde.
“Vash! It’s good to see you again.” Ludia happily greeted, walking over to them but quickly noticed not only Y/N being carried by Vash, but her bandaged leg. “Is everything alright?”
“Everything’s fine, we just ran into a bit of trouble a few days ago.” Vash casually explained, trying not to think too much about what happened.
Ludia spared a look to Y/N then the others behind them, seeing the exhaustion on all of their faces and when she look back to Vash, she could see he was as tired, maybe even more so. She expected nothing less from him.
She tenderly smiled, “Well, let’s take her to the medical bay and fix up her leg. And we can get some food for the rest of you.”
“Yes please.” Meryl squeaked out, pressing her hands together in a prayer-like motion.
Ludia gestured down the hallway behind her, and they once again followed her. Along the way to the med bay, Bradd turned up. As soon as he saw Vash, he sighed, “What is it this time? Don’t tell me you wreck your arm again.”
Vash laughed at that, “Ha! Oh come on, give me some credit. It’s not like I go looking for trouble.”
“Yet it finds you all the same.” Bradd retorted, walking with them.
“Hey Bradd, I’m going to take Vash and Y/N to the medical wing, can you take the others to go get some food?” Ludia suggested, glancing over her shoulder.
Bradd shoved a hand into his pocket and relented. “I suppose. Come on, now.”
“Finally..” Wolfwood muttered out rather loudly causing Meryl to punch him in the side. “Hey!”
“Don’t be so rude!” Meryl lectured him.
“Will you two stop it?” Roberto interjected while the two of them began to bicker back and forth.
It was then that they turned down another path with Bradd as Ludia led Vash and Y/N down the same hall. Eventually, the three came across a metal door with a plus sign over the door, along with the words “Medical Bay” over the top. Ludia scanned her palm on the glowing panel beside the door and it opened.
“Go ahead and set her on the table, I’ll grab the sutures and needle.” Ludia instructed, stepping to the side, opening a drawer to look through its contents.
Vash did as Ludia asked, and carefully set Y/N down, maneuvering her in such a way as not to irritate her wound. Once Ludia found what she was looking for, she got to work. The task of disinfecting the multiple cuts around Y/N’s calf was grueling, albeit painful. As soon as the wet gauze made contact with the damaged skin, Y/N let out a hiss of discomfort, causing Ludia to utter out a quick apology.
It took several minutes, cleaning the dried blood, and sterilizing the injury itself taking up a good chunk of time. However, when it came down to the actual stitching of the wound, it went much quicker.
On the last stitch, Ludia finally spoke up, slightly startling the two. “So Vash, you want to tell me what else is going on.”
Vash perked up, surprised. “Oh! I should've guessed you’d be able to tell, Ludia. Actually, there is another reason we came here.”
He paused waiting for Ludia to respond, all she did was hummed, signaling for him to continue while she wrapped a clean bandage around Y/N’s leg.
Suddenly, Vash felt himself grow embarrassed, face glowing a bright red. “Well you see, I uh…m-me and Y/N were uh..together and we…” He trailed off, giving Ludia space to speak.
“‘Together’ how?”
“Romantically.” Y/N cut in, after seeing Vash struggle getting the words out. Though she didn’t blame him, she was feeling a bit sheepish too. Ludia acted as a guardian for Vash for decades so talking about this kind of stuff almost felt like telling your parents about a crush or when your partner meets your family for the first time.
Awkward.
The older woman tilted her head up in a slow nod while at the same time raising a brow in confusion.
Vash took a deep breath, steadying his nerves for what he was about to divulge. “Okay, to cut straight to the point; there’s a possibility that Y/N might be…pregnant.”
“Pregnant?” Ludia gawked, eyes wide and mouth slightly agape.
Vash nodded, “Yeah. But I wanted to ask you to confirm that’s what’s going on because I’m not sure how possible it is for a human and plant to have children.”
“Me neither.” Ludia admitted without thinking.
She then watched Y/N frown, anxiety written all over her face, and Vash’s flesh arm wrapped around her shoulder to gently squeeze the space there to silently comfort her.
“But! Just because I don’t know doesn’t mean it’s not possible.” Ludia quickly corrected, “I can run some tests, confirm if Y/N is indeed pregnant and figure out if you two are compatible. For that I’ll need blood samples from both of you.”
“Of course.” Y/N agreed, reaching up to place her hand over Vash’s that sat on her shoulder.
“Thank you, Ludia.” Vash expressed, voice gentle and full of gratitude.
Ludia provided a tender smile, “No need to thank me, Vash. You know that whatever you need, you can just ask.”
From there, Y/N and Vash sat patiently, watching as Ludia gathered the supplies necessary for the blood samples. First, she turned to Y/N, asking her to hold her arm out while pulling out a small vial with a cap on the end of it, to protect the needle. Y/N did as she asked, raising her arm after pulling up her sleeve and watched as Ludia tied a rubber band around her bicep, wiped the area at the crevice of her arm then methodically pushed the needle into a vein. Immediately, blood began to seep into the tiny vial filling it up in only a minute or two.
Once done, she wiped off the area of the vein again then placed a band-aid over it.
Ludia repeated this procedure with Vash; taking out a fresh vial and collecting a sample of blood from him.
“There. All done.” the older woman stated, cleaning down the area and setting the samples aside. “Now, it’ll take a while to composite the results, but in the meantime I suggest you two get something to eat.”
“I appreciate this.” Vash expressed again.
Ludia shook her head, “It’s no problem at all.” She finally looked to Y/N, sensing the worry coming off her, “I know this might not make you feel better, but try not to worry. We have the technology to help you, no matter what’s going on and I promise we’ll help you.”
Y/N hesitantly nodded, giving a tight smile in return. “Thank you.”
Without much ceremony, Ludia took the samples and headed out of the medical bay, leaving Vash and Y/N alone.
Vash walked from Y/N’s side to stand fully in front of her. “How are you doing?”
Y/N shrugged thoughtfully, “I’m not sure. I guess I just don’t know what to think about all this.”
“What do you mean?” Vash gently probed, though prepared himself for the outcome that Y/N might not want to talk about it any further.
Y/N began to twiddle her fingers, chewing on her bottom lip, a nervous tick she always demonstrated when she felt overwhelmed. “I…uh..This is all so different than anything I’ve ever been through and we don’t even know if-”
She trailed off, falling into thought again. Her gaze drifted to the steel gray floor, eyes absentmindedly following every scuff and speck of dirt that laid across the material. “If I’m really pregnant.”
It was then that Vash saw it, clear as day; the yearning in her eyes. In his long life, Vash has seen many people, of all different lives and hardships, but one thing he’s seen that has remained constant; the paternal love and care of a mother. He didn’t know his birth mother per say but he knew some semblance of a mother’s care from Rem. She went above and beyond for him and his brother, and as he got used to life on No Man’s Land, he witnessed that kind of maternity still existed.
Vash also realized that he hadn’t asked or given much thought about how Y/N viewed being a mother, but now, her expression seemed to answer that on its own.
Still though, she was understandably worried and he wanted her to feel better.
“There’s something I’d like to show you, if that’s okay.” Vash abruptly suggested.
Y/N’s expression morphed into one of surprise then mellowed to acceptance, if perhaps a little confused. “Uh..sure. That’d be fine.”
“But we have to walk, soooo if you don’t mind, Mayfly?” Vash teased, extending his arms out, insinuating that he was going to carry her again.
She couldn’t help but let way to a grin as she leaned forward, wrapping her arms around Vash’s neck. With ease, Vash slid his arms under Y/N’s legs and torso and pulled her to rest her cheek against his chest. He exited the medical bay and turned right as he walked out.
It took a few minutes, Vash getting flustered on the way there when he looked down to Y/N staring up at him and her admitting she was admiring him, but eventually they made it. Two giant steel doors slid back, and opened up, revealing the flourishing greenery housed under the glass dome.
Y/N had seen the greenhouse once before, but she hadn’t had the time to admire it as they had been in a hurry to leave. However, seeing it now without the rush, Y/N felt the tingling of excitement, a delightful shock that stirred butterflies in her stomach.
She observed all around, taking note of all the lush plants, what they were taught were called trees and flowers. If there was one place on this planet she would call paradise, it’d be this place, next to being in Vash’s arms that is.
Vash walked forward until the path split four ways, he turned slightly left, walking a few more feet and finally eased himself onto his knees near the patch of blue flowers. He lowered Y/N softly to the ground then sat down beside her, shoulders touching from sitting so close together.
“Beautiful isn’t it?” Vash breathed wistfully, admiring the flora around them.
Y/N hummed, “It is.”
There was a beat of silence, then two, then three until…“When I was growing up here, the last couple of decades at least, I’d come here when there was a lot on my mind and I couldn’t get anything straight.”
Y/N spared him a glance, watching his tender gaze trace over each flower.
He continued, “This place helped me to calm down, come back to myself and simply air out what I was thinking without any pressure.”
Vash reached over, using his flesh hand to carefully caress at one of the petals while in thought. “And I thought that this would be the perfect place to talk. Just you and me.”
“Talk about what?” Y/N asked curiously.
Vash finally looked at her, eyes full of unadulterated love and affection; the same way he always looked at her. “About having children together.”
Despite the day's events, Y/N sat frozen, side-lined by the sudden topic of discussion even though she had no reason to be surprised. Perhaps it was the abrupt way Vash was bringing it up or maybe it was because she hadn’t mentally prepared herself for the conversation at all.
Either way, it was happening now.
“I just realized that we never really talked about it and I thought we should talk about it now while we wait!” Vash spluttered out, his prosthetic hand coming up to rub the back of his neck bashfully.
A heat ran up into his neck and surfacing his face, painting his cheeks and his ears red.
He took a breath to settle his heart beat, “I think it’s time that I confess my feelings about the whole situation. And let me start out by saying, I absolutely want to have children with you, my love.”
“Seriously?” Y/N gawked, slack jawed and shocked.
Vash nodded confidently. “When you first told me that you might be pregnant, admittedly, I was scared. Scared because plants grow fast, and I have no idea what might happen to you; scared because I don’t know if I’ll even be a good father, never had one so I have nothing to compare to…”
He paused, flopping his hands into his lap, lost in thought for a moment. All the while, Y/N watched him intently, waiting in anticipation for him to continue.
“But I’ve been in love before either, and that’s been the best experience of my life so far. So if it’s you and me…” Vash reaches toward Y/N, grasping her hand into his own and intertwining their fingers together, savoring the radiating warmth from her skin touching his. “Then I believe that we can do anything as long as we’re together.”
Instantly, Y/N felt her heart skip a beat, a fluttering originating from her stomach then rising to her chest in a flurry of affection. She gave Vash’s hand a loving squeeze, shortly lying her other hand on top.
“Vash, I want to have children with you too. More than anything and while I am nervous, I want this.”
Vash sighed in relief, now realizing he had been holding his breath. “I’m glad to hear you say that.”
Y/N smiled, leaning her head on his shoulder. “You’re right too, if we have each other, we can do or get through anything. We’ve gotten this far afterall.”
Vash leaned down, planting a kiss to her hair before resting his head on top of hers. “And then some.”
She hummed in agreement, taking a deep breath then heavily sighing, feeling her tightly wound nerves begin to relax under his touch.
The couple sat there for a good long while, silently, basking in the languid atmosphere created by their warm bodies and whispering sweet nothings here and there to fluster each other. Overall, it was a fifty-fifty success rate.
Though eventually, the huge metal doors opened and there they both spotted Ludia walking towards them.
For a moment, their comfort waned into a little unease.
At first, her expression seemed pensive, attempting to hold back whatever terrible string of sentences she was about to utter.
“I got the results back.” She spoke subtly.
Vash gulped fearfully, “And?”
Suddenly, she broke out in a grin, beaming with elation. “It seems that you two are compatible, more than compatible; it’s not like anything I’ve ever seen.”
Vash and Y/N traded glances, eyes wide and urgent. “Does this mean-?” Their eyes snapped back up to the older woman.
Ludia nodded, "Congratulations, Y/N. You are indeed pregnant.”
Vash and Y/N looked down to one another once more, simply staring, completely dumbfounded before erupting in the widest grins they could muster, and tearful laughs.
“I can’t believe it!” Y/N exclaimed, hugging Vash tightly, one hand cupping the back of his neck.
“I can’t either!” Vash laughed, a stream of tears already falling down his face as he snugly hugged her back. “We’re having a baby.”
Y/N began to sob, closing her eyes and sinking into Vash completely, into her home. “Thank you, Vash.”
Vash whimpered, hearing her grateful cry, “No, thank you, Mayfly.”
We all know how touch starved Knives is but what if his s/o was also touch starved to the point of clinging on to him like a kola or a backpack. Just thought it may be funny that he's just acts like it's just the norm walking around with his s/o hanging off him.
Touch-starved Knives? I'm already there. I'm in the theater, Anon. I've got my popcorn and my large drink and I'm ready.
This idea was so cute to me I decided to write you some little imagines and a bite-sized ficlet, too! Hope you enjoy!
Millions Knives x Reader: Touchy
Content Warnings: None again, just tooth-rotting fluff. Doesn't have any specific Knives incarnation in mind, since they're all ever-so untouched and in need of touching.
First off, don't expect him to outright admit anything, ever. Knives is very much a "if I don't think about it, it'll go away" kind of guy. So there's no way he'll ever come up to you and be like hey, guess who didn't get enough skin-to-skin contact as a growing youth, this guyyyy. But do expect him to start getting clingy once he realizes he can.
It's like getting your first taste of your new favorite food. Now that you've had it, you can't get enough. Suddenly he's pressing his hand up to yours while standing next to you (not handholding, he tried this once and got overwhelmed and had to go bite something for a while). Or he's hovering behind you, resting his head on yours. Or he's laying next to you, tracing patterns across your arm/shoulder/back/whatever's available and allowed to be touched.
It's one thing if you're fine with touch. But if you're touch-starved like him, on the other hand? You're trying to sap that same affection from him. Since he's quick to overwhelm (as previously stated) it can be hard at times, but he slowly, surely, gets used to the sensations of pressure and touch that aren't violent or painful, just kind and pleasurable.
So, the touch becomes more constant, more level, more in-tune with each other. It starts feeling very natural. And that natural-ness feels great.
Hugs. So many hugs. That feeling of pressure between the two of you is relaxing and reassuring. (Also you totally get pressed into those "airbags" of his if you know what I mean.) He's so precise with his movements that he can hold you at the exact tightness that makes you feel the best. Who needs a weighted blanket when you have the Compression Boyfriend?
Koala backpacking? Absolutely. 100%. Crawl all over this man. Crawl up him like a vine. He's so used to it by now, he just lets it happen, even in the middle of work. Sometimes he'll pretend you're not there, just for the giggles. Completely straight-faced, but makes you laugh like mad.
If this is Stampede Knives we're specifically talking about (though I personally think the other Knives do this too) then you get to sit next to him, or even on his lap, while he's at the piano. No naughty business--just being close to each other while he plays the keys. Or maybe he'll ghost his hands over yours and show you how to play/follow your playing, if you already know how.
Alright, a little ficlet below the cut just for you.
"...My liege."
"What?"
Legato frowned at the sight before him. There was important business to be done, and here Master Knives was, fooling around. Letting you, the human he'd bonded with, crawl all over him like an insect.
"If nothing's amiss, Legato, then let's get to work." Knives huffed and picked up the paperwork from the table.
You shifted around slightly on his back, head resting on his shoulder, watching as he shuffled through the papers. This was one of your little games with him--you'd hang out on his back, literally, and he'd pretend you weren't there. He didn't care about the game, really, but it made you laugh. And if it made you laugh (one of his favorite sounds, if he had any), it was worth it.
"...Master Knives."
"Spit it out."
"Get that human off your back."
Knives growled. "That human has a name, you know. Besides, there's no human on my back."
You stifled a laugh as you looked at Legato, mouth twisting downwards in a frown.
"Yes, there is." Legato pointed. "They're right there!"
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Knives shook his head, then turned around to procure some more files from a shelf. As he turned, you looked back to Legato and stuck your tongue out at him.
"You arrogant little--"
"Legato," Knives grunted. "If you mean to insult me, I'll gladly slice you open."
Legato fumed, then finally spoke again. "Not at all, my liege."
"Good." Knives leaned over to rub his head against yours for just a moment, then returned towards Legato. "Then, let's get to work."
End Notes: I have a soft spot for Knives. And a soft spot for Knives learning to love, well, love. This is also dedicated to my friend who lets me shout about Knives at them. You're the best, K!
You and Vash accidentally fall in love through sharing mixtapes. Listening in silence, but sharing the same space.
Both of you hold hands, gently caressing each other with thumbs.
You and him are wearing headphones. Listening to others choice set of music. Unsure of how to feel with his choice, but it has your heart skipping a beat. A nervous and silent small lump being swallowed down.
Sometimes you take a peek at him, when his eyes are closed. Whenever you close yours, Vash takes a peek at you too.
Both of you are blushing. Loving each other's presence and enjoying the moment.
So long as you have each other, everything feels okay. Being human around him, feels safe and normal. You want nothing more than for Vash, to feel the same way.
You've been told you're in love, but you doubt it. Because Vash has eyes for others, not you. No matter how much he takes time to hang out with you. Or asking you to be with him, one on one. Sleepovers and cuddle sessions. Always trying to comfort the other, whenever you sense he's feeling like shit. And whenever you feel awful? Vash stays by your side, until you're ready to be on your own again.
The music and lyrics fill your ears. You're feeling emotional for some reason. Wondering if Vash is trying to tell you a message, just as you have to him. Enough for you to feel a heavy pressure behind your eyelids.
Enough for your lungs to constrict slightly.
Fuck...
You're content, and only thinking of Vash. Sure he looks pretty, but it's the warmth he holds in his voice and actions. The way he doesn't hold back, with expressing himself with you.
Vash treats everybody like this, and yet it always feels different for you.
You hope he feels the same way about you. Even if it's a crush.
He gently forces your tender and soft shell, of a soul, open. Bit by bit. Like a gardener, gently encouraging a flower to bloom, by separating the petals a bit before the sun hits it.
Vash means so much to you. The only one who reminds you you're human. As if he just... *knows*, how you have been treated.
As your brows furrow, staring up at the ceiling, you gently squeeze his hand for a brief moment.
It feels selfish to want Vash for support. Given how much he has been through. But you're always wanting to help him out. To also support him when needed or wanted.
Yeah... You might actually love him. It feels like a noose around your damn throat at the self admission in your own mind. But it helps you finally breathe. Finally stop freezing up, and continue on.
My Vash/Reader sickfic that I’ve been promising! I’ve been dinking around trying to get it to a place I like and I like it now, so time to post! Read on AO3 here!
It's strange, when you're feeling unwell, how easy it is for the tiniest things to set you off.
There are plenty of day to day irritants in life, especially living on a desolate sand ball like No Man's Land. For the most part you'd learned to take many of them in stride, laughing when you could, letting the emotions roll over you like a wave when you couldn't until they receded softly back into the recesses of your mind and you could once again roll over and face the day ahead. It helped to have good company, and despite the crowded dune-crawler and the constant driving it entailed, you usually found somewhere amidst the chaos to enjoy yourself.
Not today.
You already hadn't felt well leaving the previous town, head and stomach swimming too much to risk eating more than some dry crackers and lukewarm canteen water, and even that made your innards pitch and roil dangerously. The car was constantly shifting, massive tires ping-ponging the entire chassis back and forth whenever you climbed over a particularly rocky bit of terrain and doing absolutely nothing to soothe the vertigo pooling in the bottom of your brain. It was too hot, too cramped, and worst of all?
Too. Damn. Loud.
Wedged between Wolfwood and Vash in the backseat, you had no escape from the blond's excessive snoring on your left and Nicholas leaning up over the center console to pester Meryl about her driving. Of course she was snapping back with equal levels of vitriol, voices rising slowly with each back and forth. In the passenger seat Milly was giggling along to their vicious banter, occasionally peppering in comments or fiddling with the radio dial, weather reports and religious sermons screeching through the fuzz.
The static of the radio crackled, Meryl's window-mounted fan clicked sharply with each rotation, Vash's head made a soft thunk as it connected with the glass of his window and Wolfwood kept hitting you with his elbow as he reached over the console and Milly was laughing and Meryl was yelling and Wolfwood was yelling back and-
"Hic…"
Your wet, little gasp silenced the car's occupants like a gunshot, your own hands too slow to stifle it from coming out. You could feel everyone's attention turn to you, even Vash beginning to stir to your left, and you couldn't tell if the heat flushing to your head was humiliation, sickness, heatstroke, or some miserable combination of the three. But you do know that said heat and said gazes made you curl up in the middle seat, covering your face with your long sleeves as you let out another miserable little sob.
"Are you alright back there?"
"Oh no, please don't cry! Do you feel carsick?"
"H-Hey, it's gonna be alright. Is this cause I kept hittin' ya with my elbow? Cause I said I was sorry."
You sobbed again, tears and snot and sweat running down your face and wetting your shirt sleeves as you pulled your knees up, curling as small as you could get. "'M sorry, 'm sorry, I'm fine."
"You're not fine! Did something happen?" Meryl couldn't look away from the road, but Milly had all but fully turned around in her seat to check on you.
"Do you need some water? I still have some if you're all out."
"C'mon, birdie, don't go all silent on us."
You wanted to shrivel up and dissolve into sand in the middle seat, curling in upon your own body as if it may actually make you disappear. This didn't help, it wasn't helping, it was just more noise and more worry and more hot tears running down your cheeks and you just wanted it all to stop.
"Hey, what's going on?"
Pulling your head up from your knees, you were met by Vash's hand gently brushing your forehead. His palm rested there, warm and steady, as he looked you over with a soft concern.
"You feel pretty warm. Is everything alright?" As he pulled away he brought his thumb down to swipe a stray tear from your cheek. You wanted to bawl, to clamber into his arms and let him cover you with his coat, shielding you from the heat and the noise and the (brightbrightwaytoobright) sun. But when you opened your mouth to speak, tongue dry and unsteady, you instead croaked out four, painfully small words.
"I'm gonna throw up."
"...Eh? EH?!? H-HANG ON!" You were jostled back by the force of Vash diving forward, clapping both hands over your mouth with a low groan. Your stomach pitched wildly, thick saliva pooling in the back of your throat as Vash jammed himself over the center console. "PULL OVER!"
"Wh-What? Why?" Meryl yelped when Vash exploded into her line of sight.
"JUST DO IT! PLEASE?!?"
She hardly needed to 'pull over' in the stretches of open desert, but the dune-crawler rumbled and bumped to a jerky halt that only served to make your stomach sickness worse. Not even waiting for Vash to unbuckle his seatbelt, you clambered over his lap and opened the door, collapsing to the ground just in time to empty the meager contents of your stomach into the hot sand. There was hardly anything to hack up, everything you'd eaten over the course of the day splattering out with a few shivering gags. But your body continued to retch out of your control, fresh tears dripping off your cheeks and into the puddle as you helplessly dry heaved on your hands and knees.
"Hey, hey, you're alright. Deep breaths, okay? I've got you." There was a cool hand brushing your hair back from your sticky forehead, and another rubbing the small space between your shoulder blades.
Finally, when your stomach had finished cramping and the last thick glob of saliva had drooled from your open mouth onto the sand, your body pitched forward dangerously, elbows collapsing from exhaustion. You would have face-planted straight into your own mess if Vash wasn't there to catch you, hauling you backwards so you could slump weakly against his chest as he sat with you in the sand. You could hear shuffling around you, footsteps, but your eyes were still blurry with moisture as you squinted weakly in the afternoon sun.
"Thanks, Milly. Here, drink this." You felt the rim of a canteen press to your lips, and let Vash tip your head back to take a swig of water.
"Don't drink too fast now, or you might get sick again!" One of Milly's large hands gently caressed the top of your head. "We've got plenty of time to get to the next town, so take as long as you need!"
"I'm sorry." You whimpered again, feeling twice as pathetic in the face of everyone's kindness. You could hear Meryl click her tongue somewhere off to your right.
"You don't have to apologize! Everybody gets sick sometimes, it's just a thing that happens."
"Yer lucky we're planning on a hotel tonight, way better than sleeping in the sand-OW! HEY!"
"Dingy!?"
"Quit being a jerk! They already don't feel good and you're not helping!"
"How am I not helping?" Wolfwood hissed. "I'm reminding them they don't have to sleep in the back of a dingy car all night!"
"Ooh, boy. There they go again." Vash sighed out a chuckle, hand never pausing as he carefully rubbed your upper arm. "Whenever you feel up for it, we can get going. Okay?"
As Meryl and Wolfwood continued to bicker quietly in the background, you let yourself melt fully into Vash's chest. His prosthetic arm came around your waist to keep you from slipping too far down, and you lolled your head back against his collarbone as your eyelids fluttered. "I'm sorry…" You slurred again, even though by this point you knew the apology was not necessary. "Jus' don't feel good…"
"You get a little silly when you're sick, don't you?" There was a teasing tone to Vash's voice, one that made you feel all warm and cozy in your chest. "You're being very polite right now."
"'M tired, Vash." You whined, rolling to your side a bit to nuzzle your cheek against his chest.
"I know." He said, so soft and so fond. "When we get back in the car, you can lay on me, alright? Then you can sleep the whole ride there. I promise."
"Mmh, yes please…"
You couldn't remember exactly how long you spent on the ground, just the vague feelings of Vash helping you to your feet, buckling your seatbelt for you after you clambered weakly back to your spot. As soon as he was seated he twisted his body towards you, leaning back against the car door so you could sprawl yourself out across his chest. And sprawl you did, fingers clutching absently at his coat as you tucked your face into the crook of his neck with a content little sigh. The dune-crawler rocked slightly as your other friends climbed into their respective seats, but with your cheek pressed to Vash's chest it didn't make you feel so dangerously nauseous anymore.
"Try getting some rest. We'll wake you up in the next town." His metal hand found the small of your hip and rested there, keeping you curled safely against his chest as the engine rumbled back to life. Eyelids dipping heavily, you mumbled out a few clumsy words of appreciation before blackness overtook your vision.
"Thank you… Vash…"
You didn't jostle blearily awake again until Meryl had already paid for your respective hotel rooms, letting you rest slumped against Vash in the backseat while she chatted with the man at the desk. Given the size of the town itself, it made sense that there would only be a few rooms available. Fortunately Meryl was able to book two doubles and a single, leaving you with your own space to recuperate while the rest of the group split the two double rooms between themselves.
"We'll be right across the street, okay?" Vash gave you a gentle pat on the shoulder as he pointed out the window of your hotel room to the nearby diner. "Try and get a little more rest, and I'll bring you back something for dinner!"
“Mhm… I will.” You mumbled. You'd let your travel bag thunk loudly to the floor next to your bed as you collapsed into the mattress. Some of the vertigo had subsided after your extended nap, but you hardly wanted to push your luck by trying to go out to dinner with everyone else.
"There's even a bath if you want to take one, might help you feel better." Vash gave a final, soothing rub to the space between your shoulder blades before you could hear him stepping away, boots thudding softly on the wood floor. "I'll be back before you know it. Sleep well."
"Have fuuuun." You sighed out, door clicking shut behind him and leaving you in silence. As tired as you were, there was a tacky sweatiness to your skin, sickness and desert heat making you feel distinctly gross to the touch. Maybe a bath would be a good idea after all…
Reluctantly, you slumped into a seated position before getting back to your feet. The bathroom was larger than you'd expected for the size of the inn, and your vision swam slightly as you reached over to fiddle with the knobs and start the sudden rush of water. It was even warm; how much did this place cost? Distantly you felt a little prickle of guilt, Meryl was probably spending extra just to make sure you could rest in a vague semblance of comfort. You'd have to be sure to thank her profusely, when you could actually think straight. You clumsily shed your clothes, letting them fall to the tiled floor as you slipped into the warm water and toed the knob back off again with your foot.
It felt good at first, dunking your head under the water and coming up again with a soft huff as rivulets ran from your hair. But you were far too tired to even wash yourself properly, and though the water barely bordered on warm, something about the heat made your dizziness spike all over again. You couldn't even bring yourself to stand back up to get out, slumping against the side of the tub and resting your cheek on the cool ceramic edge. All you needed was to close your eyes for a moment, and once the spiraling in your head stopped you'd be fine to climb back out again. You'd just get a little more rest in the meantime…
"Heyyy, are you feeling any better? I brought you some soup! We just need to bring the bowl back tomorrow morning."
Vash knocked twice on your door, but received no response. Man, you must be really exhausted. Your bedroom light was visible from the street, so when he saw it on he'd assumed you were still awake. He tried the handle, finding your door to still be unlocked.
"I'm coming in, okay?" He twisted the handle, hesitating just a moment before adding. "...Don't be naked!"
He shouldered the door open, one hand holding your lidded bowl of soup and the other covering his eyes. Kicking the door shut behind him, Vash hesitated a moment before peeking through his spread fingers. Your room was empty, bed still made, bag exactly where you'd dropped it just before he left. Vash's stomach sank, quickly setting the bowl on the table as he called out your name. You wouldn't have gone somewhere, would you? Did someone see him bringing you into the hotel, maybe peg you as a sidekick of The Humanoid Typhoon? There weren't any signs of a struggle, though. Maybe you were sicker than he thought, and he'd left you all alone when you were at your most vulnerable. His gaze flickered around the room, grasping for any sign of where you may have gone or what might have happened.
Finally, it landed on the bathroom door. It wasn't open when he left, and a slim trail of light was glinting from the gap between it and the doorframe. There was silence beyond it, a blistering, agonizing silence. He took two hesitant steps forwards, knocking shakily on the doorframe, before finally nudging it open and letting himself inside.
His heart twisted and stammered in his chest when his gaze finally landed on you, rabbiting up into a thundering panic when you didn't even acknowledge his entrance. You were slumped in the bathtub, one arm hanging over the edge and your cheek lolled against the rim of the basin, eyelids shut but fluttering weakly. There was a sickly pallor to your skin, and even from a distance Vash could see the goosebumps that had broken out across every stretch of it currently visible to him. You were even shivering, hard.
"H-Hey!" He didn't have time to be flustered at your state of complete undress, too busy stumbling forward to lift your limp and unmoving body from the bath. The water was cool, almost cold as he dunked his arms in, soaking the sleeves of his shirt and jacket as he hooked you under the armpits and pulled you into his arms. Letting himself sink to his knees so you could rest in his lap, he let go of you with one arm for just a moment, just long enough to grasp blindly at a towel on the counter to bundle you in. Your head thunked limply against his chest as soon as he had you wrapped in the towel and back in his arms. "Hey, can you hear me? I've got you now, it's gonna be okay."
It didn't feel like it was going to be okay, not to Vash at least. His stomach was swimming with guilt as he carried you back out to your bed, bundling you in the sheets and using the towel to dry the tips of your hair that were still damp. You were still shaking, thin blankets doing far too little to bring the warmth back to your body. Of course there wouldn't be any more stored in the hotel room either; it wasn't like anyone needed them most of the time anyway. He could dip back down the hallway and grab the blankets from his own bed, but that meant leaving you alone again, even for just another few moments. The thought made Vash feel vaguely sick himself.
Only one thing he could do then.
Vash shucked off his coat and tossed it over the back of a chair, hesitating for a moment before doing the same with his turtleneck. Waterlogged sleeves clung to his arms as he wrestled the damp thing off, dropping it unceremoniously onto the floor before moving back to your bedside. He tugged back the top blanket, leaving you swaddled in the sheet as he clambered in next to you and pulled the blanket back up to his chin. You let out a soft sigh through your nose as you curled instinctively into his warmth, tucking your face into the crook of his neck. Oh so hesitantly, like you were made of fine china, Vash draped an arm around your bundled form and splayed his hand out wide along the small of your back.
"I'm sorry…" He murmured, clutching your shuddering body like you would dissolve away between his fingertips if he relaxed, even for a moment. "I'm so sorry. I should have stayed. I won't leave again. I'm sorry."
"Mmmrh… Vash?"
He jolted, cupping your face with a hesitant call of your name as you blinked miserably awake. Head thumping and body aching, you squinted until Vash's face phased into clarity, all quivering lip and furrowed brow and stinging, glassy eyes. Weakly, you wrestled a hand free from the sheet, wiping at the corner of his eye with your thumb. He choked on a sob, melting into your palm with a relieved gasp.
"You're okay."
"Mmh… Head hurts a lot. What time is it?" You grumbled. The last thing you remembered was stooping down to run yourself a bath, then the rest of it faded into a hazy blur. Vash sniffled, pressing a kiss to your palm.
"Evening. Probably around 8? You passed out in the bath… It was really cold."
Fragmented memories began to click back into place, and you gripped the sheets close to your body with your free hand as you suddenly processed your own nudity. A spike of humiliation shot through you, as dulled as it was by your swimming senses.
"God, I'm sorry. I didn't scare you too bad, did I?"
Vash didn't respond, but the look on his face gave you all the answer you needed.
"Oh, honey." The sheets were tucked close up enough to your chest that you didn't hesitate to free your other hand to cup his face as well. His gaze trailed off to the corner of his eye, unable to keep contact with yours. "I'm so sorry, you must have been so worried."
"I-It's alright! It's not a big deal, really. I'm just glad you're okay."
You didn't relent, not yet, instead leaning in and pressing a kiss to the center of his forehead. "It is a big deal. I scared you, didn't I?"
"Not on purpose or anything."
"That doesn't mean it didn't feel real. Oh, Vash." His breath hitched when you murmured his name, another fresh tear or two slipping down his cheeks. "I'm okay. You found me and I'm gonna be alright, alright? I'm right here."
A tiny, pained whimper escaped him as he bundled you into his arms, hiding his teary face in the crook of your neck. Both flesh and metal hands fisted the fabric draped across your back as he pressed a kiss to the soft space in between your neck and your shoulder. "I shouldn't have left. I should have made sure you were okay. I shouldn't have told you to take a bath."
"Hey, hey, hold on. You didn't make me do anything, I chose to take a bath. None of this is your fault, Vash. Things happen sometimes." Your cradled the back of his head in one hand, and rubbed soothing circles across his broad back with the other. "You came to check on me, and you found me, and you got me warm. You're so good, Vash. My wonderful boy."
He sniffled against your neck again, but you could feel the faintest hint of a smile pressed against your skin. "...I brought you some soup. Are you hungry?"
You hummed, trailing your fingertips up and down the jut of his shoulder blade. "In a little bit. Can you warm me up a bit more first? You're like a living space heater."
Finally, you could feel some of the nervous tension begin to eke out of Vash's muscles as he began to melt into your arms. He tugged you forward, just enough that your fronts were pressed together from the chest all the way down to where your legs intertwined, thin fabric sheet separating your bare chests.
"Good? Not too warm?" His heartbeat was thundering loud enough for you to feel, his hands so gentle where they rested upon your exhausted body. "Let me know if you get too warm, okay?"
"I will. But this is perfect." You nuzzled your forehead against his shoulder, making him stifle a soft chuckle. "I could fall asleep again."
"Not yet! You've got to at least eat something first, okay? After you eat, then you can sleep."
"Always looking after me.~" You cooed. "I will, okay? In just a few minutes."
Your answer seemed to placate him for now as he pressed another kiss to your neck, light and chaste. He nosed along your jawbone, breath light and ticklish as he murmured. "Can I stay here tonight? I know I have my own room, and you need to rest, and I don't want to be a bother, but-"
"Yes." You replied, before he could talk himself out of it. "Yes, please stay with me. I want you to."
There was a palpable relief in the sigh he let out at your response. "Good. Cause I probably just would have camped out in the hallway if you said no. Might get in trouble with the owners for that."
"Well we can't have that happen, now can we?"
"No we cannot.~"
You chuckled, body feeling light for the first time that day as you let Vash cradle you in his steady arms.
meeting vash was like being exposed to the warmth of the sun-
and it was a meeting that you weren't going to forget, nor regret, any time soon.
the shifting sands felt blowing across no man's land was close to stinging at your eyes, disrupting you from your slumber as you winced. the cold air seeming to blow across the desert landscape was what ultimately forces you to instinctively take cover, inching your form closer to the young man that slept beside you.
upon feeling his warmth seep into you, you allow yourself to let out a quiet sigh and spend this time to admire vash when he was the most vulnerable. his signature sunglasses were tucked somewhere within the confines of his red coat. his calm, blue-green eyes hidden beneath closed eyelids whilst his lips were parted as soft breaths were felt tickling your skin.
lifting up a hand, you gently grace at his soft features, feeling soft giggles escape from the confines of your throat as your voice whispers to him. "thank you, for if it weren't for you, i surely would have died while being buried within these sands..."
you trail off and allow the memories to wash over you, bringing you back to the day where your eyes first laid eyes on him-
the moment where your soul felt the warmth of the sun for the first time.
it was difficult to survive out on your own while in the midst of no man's land. surrounding you were sands that seemed keen on drowning you as your boots seemed to sink within such heated depths. the sweltering sun did little to appease the sweat that runs down your form, making the clothes cling to you like a second skin that you couldn't peel away from.
the stark contrast of the heated days and the cold, lonely nights whilst spent in such a desert were truly taking a toll on you. you had always been alone, not quite fitting in anywhere nor with anyone as you spent your days simply trying to survive when you found yourself castaway within the desert lands.
your usual activities for survival consisted of scavenging for any items you could find. what truly became a scarcity for you was coming across any sources of water. be it bottled or dripping from a leaking pipe, the search for such precious liquid to help with quenching your thirst was becoming quite the challenge for you-
which made your day particularly difficult.
you were dehydrated; that you were sure of as a haziness seemed to put cogs from within your mind. your heart was beating erratically as your whole body seemed to burn up in response to the sun that continues to beat down on your form.
the winds blowing across the lands makes you cough in response to how you had swallowed some grains of sand. your throat was parched, and your vision was steadily becoming blurry. your body ached as your muscles seemed to cramp with each step that you took, making it truly difficult for you to go on.
with a gasp, you succumb to your exhaustion and fall down to your knees. your breathing comes out as labored, the sweat seeping from your frame was making you feel even more fatigued. you lose your consciousness then, ready to simply die from dehydration as you allowed yourself to finally sleep after fighting for so long.
there was a darkness spreading through the depths of your heart and soul. you just felt so hopeless and alone. the same coldness that mirrors that of the nights spent in the desert was felt coursing through you when you finally resign yourself to falling into a deep slumber that you had no plans of awakening from-
only to feel something cold splashing against your skin just as you were close to drowning. you wince at such an odd sensation, eyebrows physically furrowing in response as a soft groan was elicited from your throat. all you wanted was to sleep; to rest and appease the weariness that was felt within your very bones.
"hey! come on, wake up! you can't sleep like this!"
this time, the splash came with a concerned voice, finally rousing you from your sleep as you slowly opened your eyes. your irises were lifeless, defeated almost, when you saw a young man with spiky, golden blond locks of hair looking down at you with pure concern in his gaze.
his eyes were hidden beneath sunglasses, but you swore you saw eyes that shared the same hues of a blue sky from beneath such shades. the stranger's lips were tilted downwards in a frown as he lifts the flask once more, allowing you to finally realized that it was water he was splashing on your face. when one of the droplets manage to slide down your cheeks and into your open mouth, you could feel the life slowly get back into you as your eyes widen in response.
the kind, yet strangely beautiful young man helps you sit up all while holding the flask filled with water towards your dry lips. "careful, take slow and steady sips. i don't want you to choke or anything." you follow his advice, even if it took you a herculean effort to simply take gentle and careful sips when you were parched for so long.
when the flask was emptied, you found that you had regained your strength as you were able to sit up, remaining close to your savior as he settles your form between his legs. your eyes were filled with gratitude for him, yet you struggled with finding the right words to say.
the young man was silent as well, but he had a smile appearing across his soft, yet handsome features. lifting up a hand, to gently grace against your features. such a gentle caress catches you off guard as you end up instinctively moving back, nearly falling in response-
only to have the man steady you as you felt something cool touching against your back. from your periphery, you could see the metal prosthetic arm that takes over the entirety of his left arm. seeing such a thing makes your heart ache in response. just what horrors and pain had this young man been through to warrant him wearing a prosthetic arm?
"what's your name?" his voice was soft, as if reading your mind based on your expression alone when he asks his question after spending quite some time in silence. meeting his curious gaze, you relinquish the syllables that make up your name to him, earning a smile from the young man as such a soft visage was enough to make your heart race in response. he says your name for a few more times, repeating them in a way as if to cherish such syllables before telling you his own name.
"it's nice to meet you! and- well, you can call me vash, if you want...?"
his smile was sheepish now, making you giggle in response- such a happy sound even catching you off guard as you held your hands over your lips in response. for some odd reason, you felt embarrassed, but the sounds of vash's own laughter was enough to make such feelings disappear.
gently, he removes your hands away from your lips, making it impossible to hide the sudden grin that graces your features as his own smile paints his expression, "don't hide your laughter, it actually sounds really...really sweet to me."
your heart was filled with joy just then, the icy cold loneliness slowly retreating from you as you allowed the rays of sunshine to melt the iciness away from the depths of your heart. you were becoming enamored with the man who seemed to carry sunshine within his very veins, and you were certain that had it not been for him, then your life would have taken a dire turn.
"i- vash, thank you so much, for helping me. for saving me when i needed it the most."
his eyes widen in response to your words, detecting how your voice had taken on such a soft yet reverent quality. and the way you were looking at him-
well...
it made him feel like he were the most important person to you, like you were somehow captivated by him.
such pure and raw emotions being exuded from your gaze was enough to make him smile once more in response. being mindful of your semi-exhausted state, he stands back to his full height while taking you with him. somehow knowing that you were alone in this world, vash asks if you would like to join him in his own travels-
and truly, you would be a fool not to accept his offer.
so here you were, still close to vash as he kept you by his side. the more time you spent with him, the more you felt as though you were losing your heart to him. you knew that vash held your heart within his hands, but you weren't brave enough to come clean to him when it came to your true feelings for the young man.
yet, you couldn't deny that vash truly cared for you, at least, in a way that a good friend should care for their friends. but your heart sang for him, and you found it hard to keep your emotions in check when it came to him.
vash seemed to lead a lonely existence, building walls around his heart that you wished more than anything to break down. you wanted nothing more than to share his burdens; to listen to whatever aches he was going through while getting to the source of why he was traveling across such dead lands to begin with. the gratitude you felt for him when he saved you that day simply served as a starting point for your feelings for him, and you wanted nothing more than to remain by his side for the rest of your days.
your yearning must have made you act on an impulse when your hand reaches out to gently touch at his sleeping face again. your fingertips lightly caress at his cheekbones, but this time he actually feels your touch. vash was felt stirring just the slightest bit as he lets out a soft groan. his arms were still loosely wrapped around your form, providing you some warmth while in the midst of the cold, desert air as you held your breath, witnessing vash waking up.
you let out a soft gasp when vash fully opens his eyes, revealing his blue-green eyes to you. a shyness was felt coursing through your very veins as you could feel the blood rushing to your cheeks. a sleepy expression paints vash's expression, and his gentle beauty was so mesmerizing to you that you found it hard to speak.
you watch as the sleepy expression slowly morphs away from vash's features, being replaced with something unreadable. you couldn't tell what was floating within the depths of his mind, and a part of you wanted to speak and ask him if anything were bothering him. yet before you could speak those words, you felt vash lift his hand to brush against your strands of hair.
he appears nervous, his expression filled with an anxiety that was certainly out of character for him. letting out a soft whisper of your name, you listen as he heaves out a sigh before telling you,
"i'm sorry for this."
you weren't given the chance to ask him what he meant before he suddenly surges forward to capture your lips in a sweet kiss. your mind was spinning as you felt fireworks going off, making your heart pounding in response as you felt the pure, unbidden happiness suddenly coursing through you. vash had his eyes clenched shut, and you had to swallow back a soft moan. you end up shutting your own eyes in response as you slowly kissed him back, allowing his hands to delve themselves within your locks of hair as he seemed to pull you even closer to him.
vash ends up pulling away from the kiss first, earning a tiny whine from you. he chuckles at the sound of your neediness for his affections, gazing at you with a fondness as he allows his fingertips to trace at your lips.
"i-i like you, m-maybe feel even something stronger than a mere like." vash lets out an adorable cough, clearing his throat as his shy smile returns, "and i...i take it that you feel the same way?"
you allow the light sounds of your laughter to fill the night air, inching closer as you rubbed the tip of your nose against his. "of course... but perhaps, i'm more inclined to admit that my feelings for you run so much deeper than a mere 'like,' vash."
with your own admission lingering in the air, vash shares a few more soft yet sweet kisses with you. he only stop when you close your eyes once more, letting out a yawn as you cuddled yourself even closer to him. feeling you pressed so intimately close against his chest makes vash smile as he engulfs you within his embrace.
whilst you slept, vash allows his eyes to trail towards the wide expanse of the sky, admiring the twinkling stars while thanking whatever entity was above him for allowing him to meet you; for allowing his path to cross with yours.
someday soon, he will tell you of his life and his goal of finding his brother, of how he had experienced such loneliness and pain-
but for now, vash will simply bask in your presence all while thanking fate for giving your heart to him.

You wake up to a new weight on your chest, with your eyes blearily opening as they meet familiar blues. Slowly adjusting to the darkness of the motel room, you notice the outlaw sniffling.
"Red...? What are you doing?" Your voice is hushed, just slightly raspy from sleep. Yet you feel a little concerned. Since when was he ever like this?
Almost immediately, his eyes well up. Voice blubbering as his arms wrap around you, the best impression of a puppy dog's eyes remains on his face. Nothing like the fearsome reputation that preceded him.
You're a little more awake now. The concern is far more prominent.
"Vash?" You press on, hands moving to cup his cheeks in your hands.
Your sleep-addled mind makes out words such as "leg moved" and "love" before you piece it together. One of your hands moves as your finger presses against his lips, shushing him.
"Vash, I need you to slow down a little bit. I am half awake, I don't even know what time it is, and I almost thought something bad happened. Deep breaths, hotshot, deep breaths."
You see his cheeks flush at your nickname for him. The blond's cheeks puff out as he pouts, however, his expression turns a little embarrassed. He sits up, using your lap as a seat, both of his pointer fingers pressing together as he avoids your gaze. Quietly, he mumbles. You raise an eyebrow.
"Hotshot..." You chide gently.
"Well, we were cuddling like normal," He starts, and you nod, before he continues, "And you fell asleep first. But then you moved my leg off of you and so I was wondering if you still loved me..."
You can't help the bark of laughter that leaves your mouth, and he pouts again even as his eyes water.
"Don't laugh, this is a serious thing!" He whines. If he were standing, you would be certain he'd stomp his foot.
