There was an attempt.. to ride 300mi in one day. We set out at 3:15am in chilly 37F weather. The temperate kept dropping. And dropping. Around 44mi we noticed it was 23F! 🥶 We had to double up toe warmers. In East Lansing we made an audible to find a coffee shop and luckily remembered/found Starbucks 3 blocks over. Numb toes and fingers. Sunrise and a slight tailwind around Dewitt was an encouraging sign for warming air, and we made it to breakfast in St. John's 45min later than planned. The tailwind continued with a few cross/headwind sections, and we made up some time for Mt Pleasant lunch. Then we faced an ominous sight: a huge, dark cloud front with high winds. Then the rain and cold hit. And some sleet. Nasty. Every bit of gain after 120mi was lost in 12mi, and we had wet cold weather gear for the rest of the day. Getting to lunch, we saw another front coming through that would have hit on our way out. We made a tough but smart decision to not continue and head to our vacation home with our families.
