The only time we see Tyson use his strength is to protect others.
The scars are on his back. Not because he couldn't fight back or run, but most likely because he was desparately trying to protect something or someone.
Homeless, alone, scared of the dark, too afraid to sleep and clawmarks raking down his back. After all the loneliness and pain Tyson still chooses to be kind.
