I need true silence. I don't want the shove-things-in-my-ears-so-I-almost-can't-hear-your-noises silence(ish)
True silence is not merely a silent tongue, it is a silent mind. To merely hold one's tongue and yet to carry about a disturbed and rankling mind, is no remedy for weakness, and no source of power.
True silence is the rest of the mind; it is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment.
True silence really means going deep within yourself to that place where nothing is happening, where you transcend time and space. You go into a brand new dimension of nothingness. That's where all the power is. That's your real home. That's where you really belong, in deep Silence where there is no good or bad, no one trying to achieve anything. Just being, pure being. . . . Silence is the ultimate reality.

The True Urban Silence.
The True Urban Silence.
Definition of "True Silence"
The True Silence is a spiritual silence, not like a physical silence making not sound, quite, mute, speechless etc. As we live in the urban city "The True Silence" is hard to find, since we have too much information around us. In this case we call this "Information overload" or "Infobesity"
Chasing Winter (or) Chasing Summer Away
Without much warning, or perhaps with a lot that I chose to ignore, the warm weather has showed up. No more winter snaps, the chances of a snowstorm are nil, and there is no reason to wear long johns anymore. Yes, I have been wearing long johns until now.
As long as I can, dammit.
Okay: you are going to Korea. You don't know much about the place (other than it being as Asian as it can possibly be) and you are delighted to hear there is skiing there. It actually snows! Perfect. Not to debase Europe, but could it possibly right their wrong, their lack of snowfall? This year was not for the French Alps. Perhaps the South Korean Nipples are thriving in powder?
Not so! But you hoped, you sure did. Not enough to bring your snow pants of course... You did hope you'd find winter though and the frigidity of the Beijing airport fueled that hope. There is nothing as January as trying stay warm wrapped in a bandana & a February jacket on a terminal bench even as you March across the Yellow Sea. You look the Fool but you are allowed, you certainly May be June-venile...
Enough bad monthly wordplay, return to the joys of wintertime.
And not the holidays, no. What the seclusion, the frost, the peace of falling crystals accentuate are the silence, or that thing as close to true Silence as we'll ever find in this twenty-first century.
I'm sorry, what? WHAT? I DIDN'T QUITE CATCH THAT?! Exactly. Summer. It's coming & it won't shut up.
You don't know this but in the heart of January I am in the parks, on the frozen bodies of water, in the uncharted forests of the mountain. What joy! Outside I can love the chill air & the trees & the Silence without you parading around, making a racket. You know those places visited when the sun is out? How you wish you could be there alone with a loved one? That's Cathedral Park, Lac Moore, Grey Creek Pass, Emerald Bowl, Parker's Ridge, Gatineau Park, Nepean Point, Mont-Tremblant, Bella Coola Campground, Manotick, La Beauce, the Rideau Canal, La Clusaz's Balme, Nelson in BC, The Glebe... Yes, you wish there weren't so many people, so many scantily-clothed, belligerent, proud & present persons.
Winter is for staying in! So stay there. Dream about the unoccupied warmth, don't wake up to the cold reality: that the park, the river, the clearing, the back alley, the garden (dead though it may be) are abandoned save for me and my friends. Let us occupy the empty "wilderness," trudge through the white stuff before it turns brown, and feel cold sting our faces. Wearing long johns never felt so good. Who's going to stop us as we cross that line marked closed for the season when the only people who have the authority to plague us are too comfortable in their cruisers & their utility belts? We can do what we want, yell & laugh & puke as loud as we want, knowing that the winter snaps will take care of our cries, not letting them bother anyone. We are as resourceful as we choose to be. This is living. And as close as we can get to true Winter Communion without slippery planks strapped to our feet.
Summer... It irks me. Nothing is sacred anymore. Everywhere is made so liveable that anyone who doesn't actually appreciate outside is going to be there anyway. I can already hear them complaining about humidity and dry skin. They'll be traipsing around with forced grins, little clothing & clamorous voices. Just way too many people. And nowhere left to yell in peace, or to fly downhill...
Oh well. When I get back, it's to the cottage then. Damn all you heat fiends. I'll be in the lake. Hibernating.
