i saw dark-eyed juncos for the first time this year today in my yard. i look at the pigeons all over every day and notice ones that are brown or partially white or have particularly pretty iridescent feathers. in the last few days i started staring up at the tops of telephone poles while riding the train and finding red-tailed hawks and kestrels that only i notice...
i've learned to identify all the birds that come by every day and they remind me that everything is going to be okay. no matter how hard things are for us as people, the birds still sing. there's always some kind of "special" bird every day if you just look for them, and i think that's beautiful.

and a relevant recommendation: the book "keep looking up: your guide to the powerful healing of birdwatching" by tammah watts! i bought it but haven't read it yet, but she did a video conference with the zoology department at my university on birding as a grounding activity. it definitely works, and i recommend it as a good hobby for everyone looking for some source of stability :)
I love this. I definitely think this is one of those things that counts as "connecting with nature" in a real and tangible way. Feeling rooted in your surroundings makes it easier to care about what's going on in them, and act on it. One of the many paths of hopepunk.
dunno if you've seen it yet but there's a big qsmp area on r/place right now :] thought you would like to see it
I SAW IT ON CELBIT STREAM YESTERDAY!!!! OMG ITS SO PRETTY NOW
