Virgil hopped off the greyhound bus that took him from his old life. The transition from on the bus to off the bus was more symbolic of him going from an abusive household to a more happy life. He may or may not have also chosen this town because of an online friend that he liked who helped him run away in the first place.

He would've confessed to Roman, but he wasn't sure if the feelings were mutual. But at least he would spend the rest of school with his new best friend.

Looking at everything, running away wasn't the smartest idea. He knew it, but now he felt

Guilty.

An overwhelming guilt that he knew was only there from the seeds his mother planted, but he couldn't help it. He half wanted to hop right back on the bus and get back home before anyone knew he was gone.

But then he would have to suffer, and get torn down. And get beaten emotionally and mentally for years, until he finally gained the courage to leave again.

Even if he wanted to go home, he couldn't at this point.

Reason number 1, he wouldn't get home until before his mom woke up for work, and she'd notice him being gone, calling the police, and it would get worse for him.

And reason number 2, he was in the back of a squad car on the way to the police station. He was profiled as a lost foster kid and thrown in a dusty foster home with no WiFi.

Roman was probably going wild wondering if he was okay or not. Running away wasn't the safest thing in the world.

It was 2 weeks before he could talk to Roman again. When he was finally taken in by a nice gay couple, and given the name Sanders as a poorly sewn patch, right along with all the other labels he's given himself, or others given to him. Just one jacket of assumptions and listlessness.

He was somewhat forced, or asked and agreed to meet the next door neighbor, a tall, let's just say, over the top individual whom our little protagonist got along nicely with.

Anyways, by the time our story starts, its months into school, Virgil got a part time for a little extra cash, and we catch him right before a few good discitions, a few bad ones, and a few that we could debate whether they were good or bad.

Just keep an eye out for references because your author, myself the lovely, has sprinkled quite a few.
